Children often pretend to know how to do less than they are actually capable of. I look after my niece and nephew with their grandparents every summer (in absence of their mum and dad). My niece, aged four or so (and the younger of the two) enjoyed being the littlest so much that she would often claim ignorance concerning the simplest tasks. For instance, when putting on her shoes, she claimed she could not tie them. We solved this by telling her she could not go out unless she'd put her shoes on herself, similar to what Snape does when discussing the beef stew (you'll eat that like a grown-up or you won't eat anything). This process repeated itself constantly and in every possible venue for about a week (complete with horribly annoying 'baby voice') before disappearing almost entirely. It would still pop up once in awhile after that, but in a very different context: she would fall back on this behaviour when she *thought* she was too young to accomplish a particular task. Once reassured that she was capable, she would dubiously try it out, and respond with surprised delight if/when she succeeded. She had been the littlest for so long, that she was convinced of her incapability in some ways. She gained confidence over the course of the summer months until she was more than willing to try anything new.

Hope that helps you write little Harry. :)

As for Sirius and Severus. Hmm. I think that if you're going for a more equitable relationship, Sirius would have to witness Severus truly in the parent role and accept that. If Sirius really loves Harry, seeing Harry being cared for so well will have an impact on him. Since Severus hasn't yet fully admitted to himself how much he cares for Harry, this would be difficult to arrange in the immediate future; I think Sirius would have to be able to see that Severus *loves* Harry, yet Severus hasn't said that to Harry or thought about it, himself.

If you're looking for a less equitable relationship, the same thing is required. Severus would have to show himself to be Harry's parent, except that Sirius would be so very jealous of this that it would actually make him hate Severus more, for stealing Harry away from him.

I see either option as plausible.

BTW, Lupin's calling Harry 'trouble' and carrying him like a sack of potatoes was adorable.

    -K

Sirius and Snape were very... Sirius and Snape. I always enjoy Snape's moods and quirks. Well done. I liked. :o)

Sirius is a complete prat!! Snape has more than made up for any crimes he committed while he was a real Death Eater - and he constantly risking his life for the Order! Plus, as far as I'm concerned Sirius' dozen years in Azkaban were a fitting punishment that was long overdue for the Shrieking Shack incident, where Snape was almost killed and Lupin would have been executed for it!!
I'm sorry poor little Harry isn't getting any sympathy or understanding for his Big Boy Rebellion - I can't wait till he trys again!! *LOL*

I think it was wonderful. As usual, your Harry is really cute and very toddleresk. I think your interaction between Snape and Sirius is really good... things really are escalating between them. Dumbledore standing up and hushing them all-- that was cool. I think a lot of fanfics forget just how much strength the old man has. I can't wait till you update again!

My own kid HATES being "too little." The idea of wanting to be a baby is a bit startling...
As for Snape and Sirius - well, Snape NEVER lets go of a grudge, and Sirius isn't all that stable. If he doesn't find something useful and demanding to do, he'll end up just like he did in the Ministry of Magic. I really don't think either of them will ever act like adults to each other.
