I liked this one a lot better than the other story of this title.

Author's Response: Aw, thank you. It's an answer to a challenge by the same name though. Anyone can respond to it, including you *nudge nudge*. ;)

Wow! Such a scary view of Hogwarts! I like the way their relationship was handled though. Good work!

    Author's Response: Thank you! :)

I stumbled across "testing" and was taken with the test stories, so I tried to find them in your profile. :) And I must say, I'm surprised. I didn't know you had this dark, brooding side, Jan!

I'm so glad you continued this story! The weariness and despair of the characters comes through, but it's shown rather than told. So many fics mention war as this vague thing out there somewhere, but this fic brings the reality of war into the lives of the a characters. Well done.

I don't think you need to worry about continuing it, necessarily. It works well as a one-shot: one small moment in an ongoing war. If you wanted to make it more of a beginning-middle-end kind of story, you could start the story with Charlie and his dragons being very late, to the point where everyone has lost hope. And then end the story with the dragons on the horizon. That would be a framework that (with a little tweaking) would make middle be about losing hope vs. holding onto hope.

Anyway, that's my $0.02. Thank you for sharing your writing!

    Author's Response:

Thank you Malora! I always appreciate your reviews! :)

I think that having dark, and also bright sides in an author is what makes some writing so multidimensional.

This story will stay as a one-shot. I don't feel like revisiting the story's atmosphere, and I don't think I'd ever be able to make it better than it is. It's more of the type of story that makes people think about what happened before and afterwards, and come up with things themselves. And I see that you did. :)

Darn, and now I want to write but I don't have any time to do so! Hmm...

Wow, that was the most intense scene I have read in a very long while, if ever. You gave me a very clear picture of their world even if it lasted for them no more than an hour. I would love to read more in this AU if you ever get the desire to expand it. I'm picturing Charlie coming in on the horizon. It'll help me sleep. :) Thank you for sharing it.

Author's Response: Thank you TrustSnape! This will stay as a one-shot, but I love the image of Charlie coming in on the horizon to save the day. Thanks for that!

That was disturbing.  Not the writing, because I thought it was excellent.  It was just the thought that this could possibly happen in Harry's universe.  The whole time I was thinking what it would mean to be hiding out in a school, hungry, sick, tired, injured...dying.  All those childern with no way to help them, and tragedy coming from the most noble of intentions.  War is just an ugly, ugly thing.  Great story.

Author's Response: Thank you, and thank you for sharing. :) it is an... entertaining but also horrifying scenerio. Maybe I'll revisit it sometime.

    Harriverse

That was probably the most realistic portrayal of a possible war situation of all that I've read. But boy, was it gloomy!

Author's Response: Maybe I should rename it "Gloom and Doom". ;) Thanks for your review! I appreciate it.

Good work! I like Snape and Harry dealing with each other more like comrades in arms, putting aside differences. Snape isn't gentle and kind, but nor (given the circumstances) is he insulting or sarcastic. Very well done. Too bad this is a one shot. A few more chapters would be nice.

Author's Response: Yup, that was what I was trying for. Thank you! I don't know if I had a couple of more chapters, maybe some day. In any case, anyone is welcome to write something similiar, it's an open challenge. :) Maybe we'll get more.

Good job detailing a tragic situation and the courage of Harry and Snape in dealing with it.  I'm glad that you left us some measure of hope in the ending of the story.

I almost didn't read this because I thought it was another answer to the challenge just reposted.  I wonder if it was just me.  I guess I need to be more careful to notice when the list says challenge response.

    Author's Response:

Oh? It actually is an answer to the challenge. The Rubbing Alcohol challenge was never reposted, when I upgraded the archive it reorganized the order of Challenges to list them in the order they were added, so all the new challenges are on the last page. But challenge stories CAN be good, it depends on the writer and what they have. :) Actually, challenge responses are supposed to be good. Some of the best stories i've read were challenge responses.

    Thanks for your review!

    AAAAAHHH!!

What a devastatingly grim AU!!  You have captured the anguish and despair of the characters beautifully and I have no doubt this story will haunt me imy dreams tonight!!  House-Elf fricassée!!  **shudder**

Now I'm dying to know if Charlie and the dragons made it through OK, and saved the children at the school from starving to death, and how Harry and Severus et al are going to defeat the evil Death Eaters, because I have to believe they will if I want to get any sleep!!  LOL

A terrific story - thank you for sharing it!!  I'm also looking forward to more Muggleville (no pressure, I just wanted to mention how much I'm enjoying that story as well!)!

    Scarlett

    Author's Response:

About the House Elves... yeah. I was going to make it grimmer but I think it worked out well. :)

Charlie does indeed come with his dragon buddies and friends, they blow fire at all the Death Eaters, deliver food, and with their help and the angry parents of all the students at the school, they take all of them down. :) Happy? I hope you can sleep now.

Thanks for your review! I really appreciate it.
