I just had the most marvelous idea of doing a Severitus based off of this, where a Snape that raised Harry from fairly young ends up in Canon sometime and gives CanonSnape an entire paradigm shift. He has to then come to terms with it and ends up helping Harry. I like that thought, very much I do.

What people who never loved a child nor had a child love them in return miss out on.

Now this was an absolutely wonderful story! I felt so very bad for Present-Severus, and so very angry at Present-Dumbledore.... he had a chance to fix it and knowing that STILL decided to keep the relationship between Present-Severus and Angry-Harry antagonistic.

I much prefer the Past-Severus and the love he has for his son, and I just know that, whatever the future brings, it was definitely NOT a mistake for Dumbledore to have sent Severus to rescue Harry from the Dursleys. :)

    Well done!

Can't believe I haven't reviewed this before; I know I've read it and I remember it quite clearly. I like how you avoided resolution with the other Snape and Harry; their relationship is not something that *could* be equitably resolved in a story of this length. But the hint that Dumbledore *can* and *won't* help them find one another... oh. Oh, ouch.

I love Severus's characterizations and observations of the Snape and Harry he meets, especially his thought that this "Underfed, ill-used, neglected" boy is who Dumbledore pins his hopes on...

Moreover, I don't know who's *right*. I know who's more *moral*: Snape. But I don't know if Dumbledore's right that a deprived Harry would make a better solider.

    Marvelous work, Gillian. :)

Excellent story! I enjoy your imaginative ways of exploring the Severus-Harry story possibilities. You're a good writer. Keep it up! And...Thank you.
