I’m reading this again, and am once again struck by how wonderful this opening chapter is.

Thank you a very surprising start
Wow, fantastic way to start a fic; short and sweet. I take it that Severus knows about Harry's father, but Harry does not? Right! Off to read more :)
Author's Response: Thank you :)
This was wonderful! I always thought it would be difficult to convey emotion in a one shot, especially a shorter one, but you've done it beautifully. Thanks for sharing this. :)
Author's Response: Thank you very much.

Short and sweet (except for the dead Hedwig part - I imagine Petunia eventually freaked out from the bird smell). How often does Severus spy on Harry, I wonder?
Author's Response: Thanks *waves* I think Severus keeps as closest eye on Harry as he can manage. Not an easy task to keep Harry safe! Mila
Awwwww....great story!
Author's Response: Thank you
Very touching and lovely.
Author's Response: Thank you, Mila
Very cool name for the owl and how sweet of Severus to give him that gift. I know nothing replaces the first pet you have that has died, but another one can comfort you and Harry needs that comfort, since his godfather is dead and so is Hedwig. I hope Severus punishes the Dursleys good! A great little story, I wish there was more to it!
I've added to my NA series, and I've got a new one too, Heir to Prince Manor, if you want to check them out!
Author's Response: Thank you *waves* A new Never Again story? I have to check it out! And the Heir too. Mila
Like your one shot but I want to find out more I want to see what Sev does to the Dursleys I want to see Sev taking care and helping Harry I want more...LOL Good work
Author's Response: Thank you. I guess I should write more - I killed Hedwig without any explanation, after all. *guilty* Mila
Very nice job. You said a lot and conveyed a lot of emotion in a small space. As with all good one-shots like this, I wouldn't mind having the story continued at all. My one little nit-pic is that Harry has owned an owl for five years now. Why would Severus think he needed to look up how to care for it? If it is because the owl is a different species with slightly different needs than a Snowy Owl, I think that should be lightly indicated.
Author's Response: Thank you very much. Actually, I was only trying to think up something sounding Snape-ish, heh. Only Snape would give you a gift with a barb about taking care for it. That's why he's my favourite character, I think. *waves* Mila
