I love how you portrayed Sev here, the way he handled Harry's rebellion and prank war was firm but not overboard! The part with the farm animals had me in stitches! Snape . . .and a COW in his classroom! Oh the horror! Too funny!

And that salve reminds me of Mineral Ice, one of my favorites when I've pulled a muscle. Works great!

I hope Harry starts to trust Severus soon, he really needs an adult to help him through his trauma.

    Great work! Update soon!

Author's Response: Thanks!! I, too, hope Harry will come to trust Snape soon, but these things happen slowly, and it's not like Harry is trying to get along with the man.

I really, honestly enjoy your story. However, one of the things that bothers me is Harry's relationship with Pomfrey. His concession towards her feels more like a half-hearted, hastily-drawn attempt to have Harry trust and like someone. I can understand your reasoning: she heals him of his wounds, doesn't resemble his Uncle as much as a male would, and she doesn't seem as short-tempered with his behavior as Snape has (and perhaps may slightly resemble his past favored teacher at most). Unfortunately, with Harry's distrust of adults, his reaction to her seemed overdone. I imagine that he must have some resentful (and perhaps fearful) memories of Petunia to contribute to his fear of adults. It's harder to imagine that he would feel shame and contrite when Pomfrey scolds him when he was just trying to protect himself, and not anger at their lack understanding that desire. And Harry viewed Pomfrey's call for Snape as a betrayal. For the "greater good" or not, even if he realized it wasn't an attempt to harm him, she betrayed him by having someone he distrusted restrain him. The final straw was when Pomfrey said "Neither is an excuse for throwing a temper tantrum like a spoiled toddler". Powerfully negative insults that couldn't possibly be construed as an attempt to pacify or rebuke Harry for his behavior. Them be fighting words. *shrugs* I do not know a single individual who wouldn't have bristled with offense. His reactions to her aren't a result of the situation; they feel more like a result of how the author wants Harry to change.
There's not motivation placed to sympathize why he trusts her. Why her? McGonagall has given him more reason for trust by indirect help of sheltering him from Snape (although I don't think that's enough either).
=] I'll continue reading your story. I enjoy it too much to forget it. Just thought I'd try my hand at reviewing.

Author's Response: Thank you for the detailed review. Hmmm...I dunno if I agree with you or not. Harry PARTICULARLY dislikes Snape, having pegged him for a bully from his first potions class, so comparing Harry's relationship to Pomfrey with Snape is not entirely useful. As you've pointed out, she is female, and Harry almost killed her and she didn't do anything. And Harry doesn't trust her as much as he might seem to - he LIKES her, cautiously, and doesn't want her mad, but that's not the same thing. You're right, though, that that could have been better portrayed.

OK, I understand Sev's need to discipline the child, but--for goodness sake-- he is a spy and a master an catching things everyone else misses, He really needs to put that to use and really figure out the boy. He should realize that excessive punishement is going to push the boy the other way. Now, I realize he may be thinking that if Harry spends that much time in his presence, that he will learn that Punishment does not equate beatings, but right now, I don't see that working very well--Harry is just as head strong as Sev and has less reason to back down.

Great update! Looking forward to the next.

Author's Response: Thanks so much!! Yeah I'm still not sure who to put my money on in this "war" - Snape's got the power, but Harry's got the pure stubbornness and bravado.

This is one of the best fics I’ve read in a long while. You blend humor and entertainment with much deeper issues quite beautifully! Using the prank war to demonstrate the battle of wills between Snape and Harry is brilliant. I quite agree with your complaints about Canon Harry. Even without obvious physical abuse, the neglect and emotional abuse he grows up with seems to have little psychological impact on him, which is frankly unrealistic. It’s true that Canon Harry expects no aid or support from adults, which leads him to strike out on his own to solve problems. It has always disturbed me that the adults in the book (particularly Dumbledore) not only fail to recognize and address this, but they actually encourage it. They want a Hero-Harry, and clearly don’t care about the Child-Harry. But while Canon Harry is independent and resilient, he lacks any real anger against the adult world that has failed and abandoned him: very, very unrealistic.

Your Harry possesses a very believable, deep-seated anger against abusive adults in authority, and you’ve chosen to address that anger in a very accurate and perceptive way, by having Snape recognize and attempt to deal with it. The fact that you’re using humor and imagination to demonstrate the struggle is a delightful added bonus. You are a very gifted writer!

I particularly like Snape’s “lurking” while Harry is writing lines! I like the fact that he is forcing Harry to acknowledge his instinctive fear of sudden attacks from behind, while slowly convincing him that Snape won’t attack or hurt him. The physical tension Harry displays is brilliant! Some readers may not understand Snape’s seemingly out-of-character patience… but it’s clear your Snape knows from personal experience exactly what Harry is doing, and why, and he is responding perfectly. Three cheers for your shrewd Snape!!! And three cheers for You! I’m enchanted by your story and can’t wait for the next installment!!

Author's Response: WOW. Your review TOTALLY made my day. Thank you so much!!! You're like my new favorite person! Rhiannan

This was an amusing chapter! That's an awful lot of detention though. Wouldn't the other teachers be worried that he wouldn't have time to finish his homework and such? And Dumbledore probably thinks that children have to have time to play. I really enjoyed it though, and I can't wait for the next chapter.

Author's Response: Yeah, lots of detention, but how else is Snape going to get Harry to come near him? Maybe he'll loosen up a bit later on, who knows? (I certainly don't) :-)

I loved it when Harry put the animals in Snape's classroom instead of bringing them back at Hagrid's! I'm really looking forward to the next chapters (I can't wait to know what other ideas Harry thought up).

Author's Response: LOL I can't wait, either. He's still got a lot up his sleeve...
