Yay, I'm so happy to see you updated this. I was wondering what had happened to Albus and all of them. I'm glad that Severus left, even though he chose a most unconventional way to do it. He was right, no one should have to die shut up in a hospital and he was warrior enough to want to go down fighting.

I was worried for Albus there for a while, afraid he might have broken his back, my girlfriend's husband who was a fireman broke his that way when a ceiling fell on him. But it looks like Al will be okay and Viv and he have finally got it together.

I hope the rest of the Potters and Weasleys can get it together and learn how to forgive each other, because life is too short to hold grudges for a past that is done and over with.

Great story! Can't wait to see the climax and I've just updated 2 Hawks.

    Author's Response:

Thanks for reading!  Poor Severus, you know, he just didn't belong there and he knew it.  As for his unconventional method, it was more directed at giving Albus the advice he needed about Viv--he could have escaped in a different way, but he wanted to make a point to Albus and he succeeded.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's husband; that sounds horrible.  Oh goodness, the story really would have lived up to it's name if I did that.  I wanted Al to have a little happiness though and I couldn't leave him and Vivian unresolved like that.

I can't say anything about the Potters and Weasley's just yet, other than that it will be addressed in the last chapter.  Really, it is past time for them to let go of their grudges, the 5+ year ones.  Do stay tuned--if I ever get it written, I think you'll enjoy the epilogue.  Thanks again for your support!

Oh God! That was so beautiful. I've got tears in the corners of my eyes. I'm so glad that Vivian and Albus are together. Vivian was my mother's name, so I'm partial to it!

I hope that Ron and Lily make up with Harry too.

Oh, and I love how Snape escaped. A true Slytherin till the end. Too cute. I guess I was kind of hoping that he really wouldn't die, but I still love how he is still a very powerful wizard.

So glad that you've updated, and I can't wait for the epilogue.

    Author's Response:

Thanks for the lovely compliments--I couldn't leave Albus and Viv at odds with each other.  I'm a sucker for romance, so I'm really glad you enjoyed that part.  I'm also glad you liked Snape's little ending; it was my favorite part to write and I think he would have done what he needed to do to be happy at the end.  And hey, Dumbledore was extremely powerful until his end, so I wanted to paint Severus the same way.  I really appreciate you coming to read, despite the huge breaks in between my chapters.  Your support is very encouraging--thank you again for reading!

So glad I had the chance to catch up on your story. I love how you're teasing out all the pertinent back story. Can't wait for the finale.

    Author's Response:

Hey, I'm glad you liked it!  I just hope I remember everything I need to pack into the last chapter!  Thanks for reading!

Sorry I just got around to reviewing this, I've been working and writing and this was such a sad chapter, especially since I've just had a recent death in my family, my cousin's wife died suddenly in her sleep and I've a funeral to attend still.

So with that in mind, I can sympathize with Severus telling Harry to stop feeling guilty over things he can't change and to just move on with his life. You can't change the past and wallowing in self-pity helps no one. he needs to look up and say, I might have been dealt a crummy hand, but I'm going to make the best of it and thank God for what I have, which is a great son and the chance to speak with someone I thought was dead who can maybe help me put my life into perspective.

Life was meant to be LIVED and regrets don't make for living.

Why would Lily and James blame poor Harry for Ginny's death? It wasn;t his fault some psycho came and killed her. How was he to know that would happen? It's really unfair. Is it because they look at him and see some kind of infallible hero? Even if he HAD been there, he might have died too, and then they would have been orphans with NO parents!

They ought to be grateful they still have a father instead of blaming him for something beyond his control. Severus needs to tear them strips, if they ever come in to contact with him. They're behaving like idiots, IMO.

I hope they can all get reconciled and hope that something can be done to save Severus. I don't want him to die!

    Author's Response:

Hi, thanks for reading!  I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get to this review.  I'm really sorry to hear about your cousin's wife; I hope things have gotten a little better for you now.

I'm glad you found the advise that Severus gave realistic.  Harry, as well as everyone in his family, have drug out their suffering for far too long.  I also wanted Harry to look at the bright side of things, which were exactly what you said:  a son that he might take a bit for granted sometimes and a second chance to speak to someone who had a big impact on his life.  And you're right when you say Harry's not really living now--he's just surviving really, getting by every day as best he can.  I think Severus feels a bit of personal responsibility for getting Harry back on track, since he promised he'd take care of "Lily's son" all those years ago.  Even now, I don't think he'd take a promise any less seriously.

As for James and Lily, it's only partially about them seeing their dad as an infallible hero.  Really, I just think they needed someone to blame and since Harry didn't come home and convinced Albus to stay at work with him, he easily became a target.  Sometimes people have a hard time admitting to the reality that nothing could have been done and that's what I picture going on here.  They just need a scapegoat and they know their dad--Harry can be guilt-tripped about anything and they have chosen to blame him for something that was really out of everyone's control.  It's sad.

As always, I'm going to keep closed-lips about Severus, but there will be answers next chapter.

Thanks again for reading--I'm glad you've stuck with my story.

These chapters are always exquisite... I'm glad that Harry's finally getting to speak with Severus, and that we're finally learning what happened that broke up the Potter family (though I knew the essentials, of course - though I was surprised about James, I had thought he was killed, also).

They're all so wounded in their different ways... and while I hope they find it possible to heal, I also tremendously respect how honestly you've portrayed human nature in this fic. For that reason, I hope things don't resolve too easily, while they're put on the path to healing.

    Author's Response:

Hi Julie, thanks for reading!  Lol, I admit, it was a pretty long wait for the part that everyone on this site was waiting for--Snape and Harry's interaction.  I'm glad that you enjoyed finding the answers to some of the secrets I've been harboring during this fic.  I did the James thing on purpose to trip up a few people and it looks like it worked.  It was fun to write.

One of my pet peeves are 'Happily Ever Afters' that aren't earned, so I wouldn't fret about things getting resolved with a snap of the fingers.  I'm glad you like the characterizations of the characters here too--I wanted them to have problems and quirks and not heal as quickly as they often do in fiction.  For example, when Sirius dies in J.K.'s book, Harry doesn't really seem to grieve as much as I think he should have.  Personally, I think he'd come out of that experience really messed up.  I suppose that J.K. did write the books to appeal to a younger audience though and they might not understand deep hurting the way that someone who has had more life experiences would.

Sorry--I think I babbled a lot there.  I'm really glad you've enjoyed the story though and you have my thanks for leaving such a nice review.  I hope you enjoy the end!

Hi PG..me again. I was just reading some of your other reviews re the situation with Snape and the attack by Nagini. Yes, it is logical to think that Sev would have had an atidote to the snakes venom, but I do not think Nagini is that venomous. Harry didn't die after being bitten. I think Snape died of blood loss...his scrabbling at the wounds in his neck to staunch the blood flow was an indication of this. And I think the bite severed his carotid, or at least punctured it and as one of the major vessels in the body, a person can bleed out very, very quickly...he would have gone into shock within seconds, thus preventing him from being able to staunch the blood flow.

My opinion only, and I hate that he died like that...or anyway really.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Drat; when was Harry bitten?  I've only read the books once a piece, so I sometimes have forgotten about details like that.  In fact, I only really remember the basic idea of what happens in each one, which sometimes makes writing a hassle.  He probably did die from from blood loss.  As for the case of my story, we'll assume he had a blood replenisher on him, or something of the like to help with that.  I think Severus would be a regular Boy Scout--prepared for all situations.  He may have been so shocked because he never did see anyone else attacked by Nagini in the books, but for the purposes of this story, I'm going to keep it as is.  I think if Sev had seen even one person attacked with the snake, he would have prepared for that possibility himself.

Your opinion is appreciated Lesley.  I've always been quite open to contradiction, as long as it is done kindly and logically.

Brilliant chapter. I am so glad Harry and Snape got to talk...and they did so without killing each other. Sad to think Sev is definitely going to die, but at least he seems resigned. Harry really hasn't changed much, has he. He was still worried about the unknown wizard that Sev transfigured's family...not knowing what happened to their son, father...whatever.

All this time, I have thought that James also died in the attack on the family. But he has rejected his father and brother, the same as Lily did.

I still want to know why Ron hates Harry. I hope we will find out in the last chapter or the epilogue. And I also hope the Potters all reconcile, though I think Lily and James have cut their noses off to spite their faces. Thery lose their mother and then they kick their father and the loyal brother to the curb. Fifteen years is a long time to have been without two of your children when they are still alive.

Poor HArry. Yes, he might be wallowing in misery, but I think he has more than just the tragic loss of Ginny to get over. Did he ever really get over the horrible happenings that made up seven years (well, really, seventeen years if you count his time at the Dursleys')of his life when he was at Hogwarts and had that terrible connection to Volde and the things he had to do to get rid of that connection and the man. I imagine Harry has only really been totally happy for about twenty-five years out of what...60? And Harry never said that the continued love and support of Al does not mean everything to him. That would not stop him wanting Lily and James back though.

    Can't wait for more, PG.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Thanks for reading Lesley!  Lol, I think there were a few moments when Harry would have gladly done away with Severus, particularly when he says that Harry needs to take his head out of his bum (which is one of my favorite parts, if you couldn't tell).  I do think Sev is ready for death--I mean, he may have been suffering from the affects of potions for a long time now, as well as riding out attacks periodically by himself.  I think he probably sees death as a relief and he has no false hope for himself either; he's just not the sort to be overly hopeful.

Hehe...I was hoping to trip a few people up about James.  You're the first one to admit being fooled, but I'm pretty sure the majority of readers thought he was dead.

Hmm, I wasn't really planning on going to in-depth with Ron since I wanted the story to focus more on Al, Sev, and Harry.  However, I bet I could squish an explanation in there somewhere.  It probably needs to be in there so that all questions are answered at the end; I'll get that figured out and add it in somewhere.

All things considered, Harry is probably pretty messed up at this point.  I'm sure he does still have issues with everything that happened at school and Voldemort.  The guy is constantly pestered by reporters--it's not like he can ever forget the origin of his fame.  I'd say you're right and that Harry considers his years married to Ginny 'the best years of his life.'  If he did, their untimely end would be a pretty big blow for him without the loss of his children, and with that loss...well, I don't think Harry quite knows how to deal with the rejection.

I think Harry does realize that Al has stayed with him, but it's often overshadowed by what he's lost.  In fact, 15 years later, I think he's still so deeply-seated in his tragedy that he doesn't realize what he has.

    Thanks again for reading!

*Ron* is the guy in room 136? I'd thought it would have been Arthur! Good conversation.

    Author's Response:

Yep, it's Ron!  Arthur's a good guess, though I don't think he'd get quite as mad at Harry as Ron has been during the past chapters; I can see how you came to that conclusion though.  I mean, people do tend to act unlike their normal selves after bad accidents.

I'm glad you liked the conversation as well.  I hope there was enough snarkiness!

    Thanks for reading!
