Whoa, MAN!!! My hair was standing on end during the graveyard scene!!! This story popped up as Story of the Moment, and I'm glad I decided to click on it! I should come back & read this chapter on Halloween... 🎃 Definitely different!

Macabre effects of nursery rhymes and promises, lacing a dark burlesqe on wizarding childhood, neo-Nazi death metal....

    I love you.

Absolutely fabulous! I love this story and really hope to see it continued. I can't wait to find out what Harry will do next! Poor kid! Sprout is being really mean to him.... I wonder how long it will take for him to figure out a way to escape her?

This is a very interesting story, but it's all over the map. Focus, VAA, focus.

Author's Response: All over the map!  And we haven't even gotten to apparation yet!

    Well, Lily's Welsh, isn't she?

Hufflepuff! You aren't into cliches, anyway.

    Author's Response:

    Oops.

Shrugs.  Well, yeah, it's more like--what is the one house I can put Harry into that hasn't been really overworked yet?   Besides, you hear so little about Hufflepuff House itself, I think it's time someone investigated.

Since there are too many stories where Harry's a wimp, this is a change.

    Lily's really cold, isn't she?

The boys are nine and eleven, not both eleven as you say here.

    Author's Response:

Yeah, I lean more towards IndependentHarry--except that word's been co-opted by a lot of writers seem to turn him into a whiny teenage rebel obsessed with blowing off his mentors.  But anyways, I think hurt/comfort fics do serve a purpose--they're supposed to give you a kind of Dickensian coziness--so long as the characters get over their angst afterwards to fight.

Lily's had to deal with losing her firstborn, almost losing her youngest and hiding from the prejudice of her own people towards dark wizards.  Moreover, she's a Healer--and a rather burnt-out one--who deals firsthand with the results of warfare, in a society where you can't trust anyone.  It's like, do I heal this guy when he might stab my husband tomorrow?  She makes some tough calls.

     And, umm, oh.  Oops.

Voldie calls Children's Services, and Harry ends up with Petunia. Did I miss something?

Author's Response: Yeah, well, you'd think Voldie would get tired of the megalomania after awhile and inflict some slightly more garden-variety injustices.  Pretty improbable--not the least b/c Voldemort didn't blast the bureaucrats after the conversation.

I have to say, this fic is singularly fantastic. it's the best one I've read on this sight for a while, and your breaking of the 4th wall was very well done. I find myself cheering hooligan harry on, and i hope he keeps surprising everyone.

btw, did harry really trick the hat? or does he truly have those hard working and loyal characteristics? i'm just really into how you portray hufflepuff in general, its always irked me how others might just stereo type hufflepuffs as dumb and overemotional. even though i'm in ravenclaw, i don't think its quite fair for any of the houses to be categorized so carelessly.

[/rant] so, yeah, again, love this!

    Author's Response:

    Big grins.

Thank you so much Alarnia, and I'm really, really happy to hear you're enjoying it--oh, and umm, please do not allow the fact I took four months to reply detract  from the credibility of my delight.  'Hooligan Harry' probably will keep surprising most people, but he's actually going to become quite predictable, once he figures out his priorities... or as predictable as chaos can ever become, I suppose...

Nah, he didn't trick the Hat.  The expectations of other Houses on what being hard-working, loyal, honest, etc. entail cause them to trick themselves... as we'll see.  :)

I like!! I especially like how your world is more complicated and nuanced than the canon world - things are much less black-and-white, and so the people are more realistic. It's good!

    Author's Response:

Thanks again!  I was pretty worried about integrating my ideas into the plot without cluttering the story, and hoped you'd enjoy the additions I've made to the Potterverse!  Making things less black/white though will have its downside... how the heck am I supposed to give the Death Eaters a sense of humour and interest in children... and then set them to fight a very UGLY war?  Cringes.

Maybe, by the time we get there, I can either make you (1) distance you from their sense of humour via some lovely, distracting plot, or (2) used it to create some sort of macabre or absurdist mood--while somehow not veering in R-rated content (cum Gaiman in 'Neverwhere' (AWESOME NOVEL!  READ IT!) with Vandemar and Croup).  Crosses fingers!
