Reviews For The Summer of '89
I liked how Snape dealt with the boys, especially Ron, at breakfast, and the clock was really funny. I could see it being thrown out a window by Ron sometime in the future. I also liked how they watched cartoons, I grew up with all of them and it brings back sso many memories. I love how Snape uses Inspector Gadget, one of my favs, to get Harry to smile. His response to Harry saying he hated him was also very good. I also liked his explanation of why Ron couldn't stay with his mum and Ginny and his patience in dealing with the bickering. The church was good too, I can see them going there on Sunday like regular Muggles, since JKR did say that wizards believed in God in an interview, so why wouldn't they go to church? Chapel was an important part of a morning routine in most private schools in England, like Eton and Harrow, they have beautiful churches there. Can't wait to see what happens next and hope you can continue this soon! I'm loving it! Author's Response: Thanks again! I was so scared that Inspector Gadget being so British, half of the readers wont get the context - also they are so old. Thank you for leaving a review....
Author's Response: Thanks SnapeGirl!! I had been waiting for a word from u since this was written for u ... I was really scared that maybe, u dint like it since your own stories are so much better and heartfelt always - u are like the king/queen of childfic genre. Thanks so much, Lia
Author's Response: Thanks!!
Author's Response: I imagined Sirius having taught him the cards game sometime ... Harry uses that. Thanks again, Lady
Author's Response: Hey, you made it thru the chapter - it won't stop to surprise me when people make it thru the lengthy 2nd chapter, which hardly has any dialogue.... I have already rewritten it but not sure how to edit it here so will post it on ffnet now. Actually, that was exactly the thought in my mind - I had quite a few summers to get into any and all sorts of troubles ... My parents used to send us to this sports club every day in the morning and instead of actually playing lawn tennis/table tennis/volley ball/swimming, we would be found running around the trees and climbing the trees that surrounded the club! he he!! I remember, once, we 6 kids decided that we wanted to go to the top of this hill at some distance from our neighbourhood. Up we woke at 6 in the morn, told each of our parents that we were going for jogging and we went up the hill. We returned only around 11 a.m and told our parents that we had been playing. We were hardly 7 years old then. I told my Mum this just last year, when she was sitting with the mother of another one of those 6 of us. Ha ha! You shd have looked at both of them! These days, parents completely time-manage their kids. It's good in a way too - you get to learn a lot of stuff - dance/music/sports - classes after classes. I am glad that it evoked your childhood memories. Snape is trying to do exactly that. Keep them busy as he works from home or when he goes to work. Thanks for such a lovely review. Lia
Author's Response: Thanks Shadowienne! Would you believe it if I told you that I actuallylost the 2nd chapter of this story as well and had to rewrite it entirely? I had even attached it to my email account and saved as a draft, then made changes in the draft directly - somewhere , sometime, did Ctrl-A, Space and saved the draft ... there went my chapter :) Realised it only when I was sending it to Wands for beta-ing. I was so ashamed of myself- can't tell you :) but wrote it back cus there was a deadline ( Which I anyway missed by a more than a fortnight). I have always been in dire need of a good editor who could go snip snip snip on my ramblings - for that is what they become when I start getting so detailed. Need to learn the art of minimal writing and letting it be open to interpretations. I am so happy to see your review and so glad that you liked it despite all the weaknesses. Thanks to your awesome support and that of other members here, I actually managed to push this through. I will deff try to rewrite the other story's chap as well. Thanks again for leaving such a kind review and your support. Lia
