Reviews For Differences Abroad
Author's Response: We'll have to see how he fairs!
Author's Response: Thank you! I'll be working on this soon hopefully!
I think of Sev's apartment as a studio type, with a few partitions here and there for privacy. It would have nice reserved decor, nothing too flashy or loud. Doesn't necessarily HAVE to be black or green, could be gray or neutral tones, or even cobalt blue in different rooms. I see him as having sort of old style furniture, nothing too retro or modern. Like those space age chairs that look like they came out of the Jetsons. I also think the furniture would be comfortable, not too rigid or hard, who wants furniture they can't sit on? It might even have a TV and DVD player. Maybe a fireplace, don't know if it would be considered a fire hazard. I could also see some fine art peices scattered about, like maybe a vase or some prints, a pair of bookends or a statue on display. I'd say that the American teachers don't automatically favor the Gryffs and give the Slytherins the benefit of the doubt. Also they appreciate those who follow rules rather than break them, which a lot of the Gryffs have a tendency to do for no apparent reason then they feel like it. The Americans also trust Severus and that alone would give your average Gryff fits. That Snape is to be admired for his strictness--oh horrors! Author's Response: First off, thank you! I'm always pleased to have a review from you! ~_^
*Reads over the description* There is an irony in your description and mine that you will discover when the next chapter comes out that I think you'll enjoy. I love your idea for furniture, so I'll be taking that into consideration.
I also love your idea for the teachers and think I'll have some fun with this.
Thank you again for your review and for participating in "descript Sev's room" and "What in the world did the Americans do."
As for leaving a review, I believe it is not polite to read stories and not write at least "been here" *shrug* Author's Response: Better than some people.
Thanks again.
Author's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review. :<)
Author's Response: Thanks!
80-89=B 70-79=C 60-69=D below 60=F? That's how it was all the way through my school years in the US. Author's Response: There is that and then there are honor's classes. Depends on if there is a weighted scale or not.
Author's Response: The repetition comes from seeing the same events through different people's perspectives. Thanks for the review.
First impressions mean a lot, and once the teachers and American students have certain expectations, you get your mix of self-fulfilling prophecy and confirmation bias, making the Slytherins keep looking better, and the Gryffindors seem to be getting worse. And to the Gryffindors, aside from Hermione and Neville, to whom simply treating the Slytherins the same as everyone else would be seen as favoring them, *actually* liking them a bit better, well... Simply not considering the Slytherins evil, and being willing to talk to them, is enough to get you labelled "evil" yourself, to many Gryffindors. So...did I guess right? ;) Harry's a bit oblivious, but Ron's way, way worse. Boys tend to be like that, though, until they grow up a bit! Author's Response: I'm sure they don't and they are probably angry that people are telling them how they should act. You're right that they are not taking well to the Gryffindors' lack of ambition. The teachers are not pleased with the lackluster homework and neither are the students. You'll find out why a little later. Mingling? Other than with Luna and the DA have we ever truly seen the Gryffindors mingle? So you might be on to something. You're right about first impressions, it looks as if the Gryffs aren't making good impressions at all. I wonder what the American students think of the housing situation at Hogwarts. Must be odd for them to be supposedly banned from talking to people in their own country by "foreigners." Perhaps the Gryffs are headed towards a "tea party" of their own making. Very 18th century, no? We'll have to see. Ron is worse. Boys are boys and I know two who need to grow up. Thanks for your review! |
