Reviews For For Valour
Author's Response: Hey there, shadow! I am so pleased that you think that the big picture is well built! Generalized ... perhaps, but it sure gives me a good idea of what parts you feel add to the overall feel to this story! Yes, I quite agree that Severus telling his story will be good for him. Definitely true, your comment about seeing yourself properly only after seeing your picture through another person's eyes. Thanks so much for the feedback, as always. :)
Author's Response: Hi Catherine! I am glad that you are pleased with the sequence of events that led to Severus' VC. I spent night after night brainstorming on the reason for it being awarded, and I was always a little worried someone would not think it realistic enough. Thanks so much for your review!
very heartfelt. and oddly enough my great grandfather was a pilot in the second world war. i hear stories like this from my grandmother a lot. Author's Response: Hi, thanks for the review! I am glad that you found the chapter to be from the heart. :) A pilot during WWII. Wow, that must have been a tough job! I suppose some of this would feel familiar to you then.
His story of how he was awarded the medal begs the question of what makes a hero? Severus was able to see a way forward, and act upon it, when others were panicking or doing nothing, and there was an element of luck as well. Is that bravery? Well, Harry certainly thinks so and I imagine that his reaction is what will count most to Severus. Author's Response: Hey rosina! It is nice to know that you enjoyed getting a glimpse of Severus' family life last chapter. I am glad that the way Severus got his medal is making you ask what makes a hero, as that was exactly my intention. Heroisim is so much the product of perspective, and one man's heroic act is not necessarily the same to another. Great to hear from you!
Author's Response: Hi! Thanks so much for reviewing! I am glad you feel that it is on target.
Author's Response: Here, have a tissue! I really appreciate such a detailed review, and you sharing your ideas and opinions! Hmm, Charge of the Light Brigade. I do believe I read that a long, long time ago, I will have to read it again - thanks for suggesting it! As for you, I would certainly recommend you read Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, which is based on the old saying "Dulce et Decorum Est, Pro Patria Mori" which essentially means how sweet and fitting it is to die for one's country. It is my all time favourite poem, so hopefully you will like it. You may find that For Valour has similar themes! Anyway, thank you again for reviewing, and I am glad that this story is hitting you right in the feels. ;) The idea rather hit me in the feels too.
Author's Response: I am so glad you liked it! Thank you very much for taking the time to review. Yes, I did research like crazy! I still think I could have done more, but there really is not a lot on the actual details of the Falklands. Most history books it seems just skim over the basics - but luckily I was able to find a few newspaper articles with first hand accounts, to supplement the facts. It is good to know that it feels believable, as that was something that has been so hard to do. Thanks again for the kind words! ;)
I think all the thoughts and feelings you depicted were perfectly sensible coming from a man who had recently lost his wife. So was the fact that Harry seemed to be absolutely excluded from his mind. I’d gladly write more, really, but I’m afraid I’m left speechless… Author's Response: Howdy Annora! I am very glad you enjoyed the chapter, and felt that the emotions were accurate. Just knowing that you're speechless says enough. :) Thank you for reviewing!
Author's Response: Wow, I am so glad it really resonated with you. Thanks so much for reviewing cara-tanaka! |
