Hello Whitetail! I missed you and the story of course, amazing chapter, dangerously close to the waterworks again, but I managed to resist, maybe as Severus pondered about him missing Lily and possibly finally starting to move on, I too am starting to move on from the empathy this story provokes in me. I can't wait until the next chapter whenever that will be. Keep up the good work!

Author's Response: Hi there! Great to hear you are still enjoying things. Next chapter should be up on Monday evening. Or at least that's what I'm shooting for. Now that I'm through midterms, I have a bit of free time again, thankfully. Thanks for sharing your thoughts - always glad to hear them!

Loved the contrast between the happy Harry part of the chapter and the bittersweet tissue alert letters section.

Author's Response: It is great to hear you liked the variation of the emotion in this chapter! ;)

What a beautiful and tragic chapter. Ben telling tales on Severus to Harry was the humor that lightened it, but the letters from Severus' dad were a 2-box tearfest.

Author's Response: Haha, I'm glad you liked Ben's tales! I thought this chapter needed a little bit of fun to contrast the letters. Two boxes, wow, that sad, huh? Well, it's good to know they hit the mark, then. Thanks so much for reviewing!

Wow... and wow again! You've created a cohesive whole from the elements of the Moment, the Memories, the Confession, and the Other Perspective. (I do realize that's generalized!) The experience of telling the story to Harry has proven to be a catharsis for Severus, and I suspect it will eventually help him (Sev) to resolve his lingering feelings of guilt, even if he continues to suffer PTSD episodes in the future. Sometimes, you can't truly see yourself until you see yourself through someone else's eyes, and that can't happen while you're keeping yourself completely closed off from others. Go, Harry! :-)

Author's Response: Hey there, shadow! I am so pleased that you think that the big picture is well built! Generalized ... perhaps, but it sure gives me a good idea of what parts you feel add to the overall feel to this story! Yes, I quite agree that Severus telling his story will be good for him. Definitely true, your comment about seeing yourself properly only after seeing your picture through another person's eyes. Thanks so much for the feedback, as always. :)

I'm very intrigued by the Hufflepuff girl's reaction to Malfoy's statement-- do we get to find out more about her motivations in future chapters? Good interaction between Severus & Harry after the fight, although Harry might not agree with me!

Author's Response: Ah, Eleanor! Yes, she will show up again. It is great to hear that you are enjoying it. Haha, yes, Harry probably doesn't agree, but it is nice to know you thought so!

I've read a number of action/adventure novels through the years by various authors (ex. Ian Fleming, Alistair MacLean, Colin Forbes, Craig Thomas, Clive Cussler, to name a few faves), and your writing in this chapter describing the battle scenes is certainly on a par with the best in the world. I am absolutely stunned at the sheer realism you've depicted. Wow! Of course, I ended up in tears by the end, but that's okay, too...

Author's Response: The action and realism is that good? Wow, I am speechless. Thank you, so much. I think that just made my year ... ;)

Well, Ben might not be of Severus's lot, but at least Sev has someone who can truly understand his situation and whom Sev can talk to. And he also now has a couple of friends to celebrate Harry's birth with! Sweet! (Am wondering if Sev might really know/of Ben's sister?)

Author's Response: Hmm, Ben's sister indeed? Good question ... but alas the first question you ask is one I can't answer. ;) Thanks for the review!

So he's off to war... I can remember seeing nightly news reports on the progress of the Royal Navy's voyage from the top of the world to the bottom: it took them about a week to reach the equator, and a second week to arrive at the Falklands. Two weeks of steady traveling -- the whole world knew where they were, where they were going, and why -- and THEN, when they finally got there, the British were accused of launching a "sneak attack"!!! Like they'd done something unfair... Good grief. "Sneaking" south on prime-time news for two solid weeks -- it would have been laughable under other circumstances...

Author's Response: Wow, really shadow?! Wow ... didn't know that. A sneak attack my butt! Thanks for sharing that little tidbit! ;)

Talk about the plot thickening... And a Victoria Cross to boot! But poor Snape-- being caught that far off balance just because Harry had to check up on beetle wings. I'm cringing as much as Harry is at this point, not really certain I want to hear it all, but knowing that I need to, in order to understand.

Author's Response: Ah yes, that plot is bubbling away into a nice, thick gravy (my secret is corn starch). Yes, it doesn't bode well, does it? What follows definitely isn't happy in places, that's for sure, but every bad thing has its good parts ... Thanks for reviewing! ;)
