As per my longer review below, I think the instrument JKR had in her book was an ear trumpet (at first, I thought it was an ear horn). I just now googled images, and wow! Those suckers are HUGE!
It's after 3:30am, but I couldn't go to bed till I'd finished Chapter 4 (having read the story straight through!). I don't have any experience with hearing loss, but your portrayal of Harry's frustration mirrors, somewhat, my experience of trying to learn to communicate during an immersion program in French back in college. More than just a language barrier, I suffered from culture shock (tho' I didn't have a name for it that summer!), and I can easily see that in Harry's being thrust into a new world. // I'd love to see this story continued, because you've done an amazing job with it thus far. I might also suggest something I seem to recall from Canon (tho' I can't remember which book it was in)--a portrait in Hogwarts had a witch who had pulled out an "ear horn" (I think that was JKR's description) so as to better hear a conversation taking place between Harry and other characters. If hearing aids or implants are impractical due to interference from a wizard's innate magic, perhaps Harry might benefit from an old-fashioned ear horn. (I do realize that this idea goes contrary to the direction Snape was suggesting at the end of Chapter 4; however, when Harry does return to Hogwarts, he will need to reintegrate into a hearing culture, and the ear horn might come in handy. And I can just imagine situations involving Malfoy and the ear horn...) // Excellent story, so far, and now it's after 4:00am, so I'm off to bed!

I really enjoyed the story. I would definitely be interested in reading more sometime in the future. Thank you so much for sharing.
Love it hopefully one day the author will decide to finish it
I love this story! Please continue writing. Harry is so believable and Snape is well characterized too. I can't wait to see how it ends!
Great fic! I'd love to read more at some point...
Aw I love this! Poor Harry, caught between two worlds! Its so different to any other fanfics I've read (a lot! Lol) so im really looking forward to seeing where you take it :)
I hope to read more soon! Absolutely love that Harry and Severus continue to misinterpret each other. So will Harry be willing to accept he needs to make more changes?
Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing! Sorry for the long delay, life has gotten in the way, as it sometimes does. I am working on the next chapter though!
