I can’t wait for the Dursleys to find out exactly who their mysterious guest is (mwah, ha, ha!) I hope they get their just dues. Thanks for the very well done Ripper scene.

Author's Response: Ripper!!! I'm a cat person at heart, tho' I was raised with dogs, but we had good doggies, not vicious little fiends! Still, dogs are dogs... The "brown tornado" was based on two of our dogs, Roy (who spun silently) and Hamlet (who growled while whirling!). And I learned to beware of a friend's dog, Peanut, who repeatedly wet down my leg! Ugh. I'm SO much a cat person! Glad you liked this chapter! Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Starting to wonder whether the efficacy of the wards really is the primary concern and reason for Snape's charade or whether there is something else being assessed.

Another great chapter. Poor Harry. Kinda love that Ripper felt the need to pee on "Mr. Lawson" a second time. And the neighbors witnessing the chaos! Nicely done.

Author's Response: Thanks! I just loved writing the Ripper scene! The Dursleys are always trying to show off to the neighbors, but not like that!!! Thanks for the review!

'Mr Lawson' is definitely not a dog lover then. The fiasco with Ripper in the garden was great fun - it would make a terrific cartoon sequence!

Author's Response: I don't think even a dog lover (aside from Marge herself) could be fond of Ripper. What a little furry thug! I based the "brown tornado" on two different dogs in my past who loved to spin through the yard like tornadoes. And, of course, the neighbors got to see the whole fiasco!

Very good mix of humour and more serious parts thank you

Author's Response: Yes, I had to write on several levels, and I tried to get the humor to balance out some of the tension in the rest of the scenes. Thanks for the review!

Woahhhh! So intense! Fantastic development and events!!!

Author's Response: Oh, yes! I really enjoyed writing all aspects of this chapter, from the interaction between Snape and Harry, to Ripper and Marge, to the neighbors watching Number 4! We've had two dogs (gone to the great big doghouse in the sky these many years) who would do "the brown tornado", one silently spinning around the yard, and the other growling fiercely in utter joy! I just had to incorporate Roy and Hamlet into Ripper's performance

I think I appreciate this story most for its balance. It shows just the right amount of everything, from Snape's behavior, to the Dursleys' treatment of Harry, to Harry's own thoughts on his station with his relatives. There aren't those wild extremes one might find in other stories, in which everything is absolutely terrible and snape is either a heartless man or an immediately compassionate one. I do wonder about how a mattress can fit into a cupboard. I'd always thought those cupboards were much narrower than the average twin sized bed.

Author's Response: Honestly, until I encountered Harry Potter, I'd never imagined anyone sleeping in a cupboard at all. But Coleridge referred to the willing suspension of disbelief, so I'll go with that... Thank you for your compliment about "balance"; it's nice when a story works out like that, since I think a number of mine did not quite achieve that kind of balance. Thanks for letting me know! 😊

That was such a funny chapter! At least Ripper got his exercise. I wonder if Snape will hex the little bugger before he leaves? I'm also wondering how much of Marge he will put up with? Dumbledore should owe him big-time after this.

Author's Response: Ripper just begs to be used! So I used him shamelessly! I've had a couple of dogs pee on my leg, and one cat!, and it's so gross... I figured Ripper would pull out all the stops when it came to Snape, so I unleashed the critter and let him run absolutely WILD! This chapter was so fun to write! And (not to give anything away) Ripper isn't done yet... As for Marge, well, you'll get there! Ha!
