Interesting one-shot! I really liked it, and agree that it would make a terrific longer story — especially with all the open questions you note at the end.
One can only hope that the Dursleys *suffered* irreparable harm by just the accusation of murdering their nephew if they weren't convicted of the crime! The *canon* Dursleys should have been imprisoned!
I'm mostly curious about what level of "Wish Magic" Harry was able to employ to render Dumblef***'s 'gadgets' useless and how did the non-magical authorities much less the magical ones find and identify a child's *body* as his?!
If I were Severus, I'd go apply for adoption of "Jerome", resign from Hogwarts, and become an independent brewer! I definitely wouldn't want to allow "Jerome" within 100 *miles* of the school OR the MOB!
Good one-shot though it does make for more burning questions than answers!

Loved the story and of course a sequel would be most welcome!
That was a neat story. I hope you would decide to do a follow up at some time. Since Severus had been mourning Harry for so long, his perception of him is completely different from canon and would make an interesting story.
Author's Response: Thanks. We'll see about the follow-up. I tried a few times to make it a short story, but the characters kept misbehaving. One in particular kept trying to be a complete and total jerk when I didn't want them to be. If I can figure out how to keep that character in line, we might have something.

Liked this rather original take Severus' life without a Harry to sort of 'guard'. It got really gruesome there for a moment with the 'dead' Harry, did something happen to the Dursley's? Prison? I wonder how they determined that it was the relatives fault that he died. I feel I missed something about that. Very nice fic, :) Thanks for sharing! I hope to see more when you have the time to write it.
Author's Response: Hopefully the gruesome wasn't too offputting. I was considering raising the rating just for that bit. As for what happened...well there's a lot to that and I don't want to let out too many spoilers in case I decide to continue. I will say that the Dursley's are not in prison. There wasn't enough evidence to tie them to the body.

Very nice. I nearly didn't read it from the summary, but I'm very glad I did. Nice contrast between Snape's mood at the beginning and end of the story. Yes, there's plenty of room for you to write more if the mood takes you, but it stands well enough as a one shot, just needing the reader to use a bit of imagination.
