This is a big change for Harry. Still he lived in the dorm at Hogwarts so he is somewhat used to being in close quarters with others.
Severus is nothing if not dutiful. He may not like Harry but will still protect him. The idea of Dobby actually causing Harry harm in spite of the wards hadn't occurred to me. It's an interesting twist.
Interesting. I think your take on corporal punishment is a bit over the top. If everyone who was spanked went on to hurt their friends, that would be almost everyone in my generation. Certainly I’m not defending it especially with caning which is abuse. OTOH I like how Snape is making Harry think These things.
Author's Response: Severus is talking about his own life here. And I do think his home life might have something to do with the fact he called Lily a racist name.
Please do not take everything Severus says as my own opinion - characters I like tend to not say things I consider absolutely horrible in my stories, but their opinions can differ from mine quite a lot.
(I don't consider Arthur Weasley a bad person for canonically physically punishing Fred and George after they tried to get Ron to make an unbreakable vow. It obviously didn't help, but I can forgive him for feeling that he needed to punish them severely and defaulting to the punishment he was used to.)

Author's Response: Yes, poor puffskein ... I based this on the things written in handwriting in the first edition of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", where someone asked what happened to the puffskein and it is revealed Fred and George used it to play Quidditch.

Thank you a lovely chapter. I’m so glad Severus knows that Harry didn’t deliberately hurt a living thing. Perhaps they can start again.
