Great chapter. I remember reading a spoof School inspection report before book 5 was published, It was very funny especially about the health and safety aspect and didn’t like the way the teachers described the inspectors as “they who must not be named”.

I’ve caught up since I was a few chapters behind. You’ve done an excellent job portraying Snape as a bitter but passionate person. You can really feel his pain as well as his anger. Ariel’s curiosity and spunk also come across well.

Author's Response: Thank you so much!! :) We love bitter Snape

Favorite chapter yet! There was just SO MUCH to it! I loved the insight into how Ariel and Snape are mentally/emotionally handling "the letter," particularly how Ariel is struggling with how she feels about Snape (I'm getting those "father" vibes). And poor Snape. He doesn't like not being "in the know," especially when it concerns him...ESPECIALLY when Lily's name is being thrown about with his. I strongly feel like Dumbledore does know the truth, but if that's the case, why's he holding back? What's the point? Hmmm...I can't imagine him wanting Snape to be frustrated/angry, so there's GOT to be something else going on with that. And Ron...his reaction to Ariel's hug-could there be more than just a friendship in the future, perhaps? The ending scene was intense. I was wondering when/how the Voldemort/pain-in-scar would come in to play, and it was well done. Perfect timing for Snape to yet again save Ariel and for them to have a discussion...she is on her way to detention, after all. Thanks for another great chapter, fellow teacher-friend!

Author's Response: Oh gosh, thank you so much, fellow teacher friend! This was such a chore of a chapter to write, I don't know why!! But I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed it so much! Ariel is definitely struggling with how to categorize Snape, and Snape is struggling with... feelings, which is very on brand. Dumbledore knows more than he's letting on, but we'll get to that later on. I don't think Dumbledore intentionally wants Severus to be blindsided, but let's be honest, there's a .02% chance Snape will take this well, no matter how the truth comes out.

Such a great chapter!I look forward to more of this story! I really enjoy the direction you’re taking with love protecting Ariel and her needing it. In canon, I understood why Snape had to stay aloof with Harry, for the sake of appearances, but it always bothered me. Especially with Voldemort not understanding love, friendship, I think snape didnt necessarily have to be so cruel. Therefore, I am really enjoying the direction you seem to be taking with allowing snape to have some kind of relationship with the girl who lived all while still keeping her safe.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Love is one of the things I really wanted to explore here. In canon, Harry has this incredible capacity to love, and love is Snape's only redeeming qualities. I absolutely love stories where Snape is thrust into the role of parent and is forced to confront those emotions, but I've very rarely seen it done with a girl he viewed to be primarily Lily's. I'm excited to keep exploring this relationship :)
