Talking it Over by garfield090684

"Ah Severus welcome!" Dumbledore said as he entered through his office door. He was sitting talking with McGonagall with a bunch of books between them.

"Is there anything in particular that I can help you with?" he asked smiling, "Chocolate frog?"

"No thank you," Snape said standing in front of the headmasters desk, "I am here on a matter regarding Harry Potter, I have found some information which is most pertinent to his situation."

"Well tell us what is it Severus?" McGonagall asked curiously indicating that he should sit behind her. Snape remained standing so McGonagall stood to join him.

"It has come to my attention that the culprit behind this spell is none other than Draco Malfoy. He has been punished for this destructive behaviour and Lucius Malfoy wishes for Draco to remove this spell as soon as possible," he stated, whilst it was a very difficult topic for Snape to speak about this was not the right time and place for these emotions. No there was a warm shower and a cold bottle of firewhisky which would take care of those emotions for him.

"What spell was it Severus?" she asked.

"Nunc oblita," Snape stated.

"Ah I thought so!" Dumbledore said with a smile. The look on Snape's face said it all, if the headmaster had an idea that this was the spell then why hadn't he made mention of it before now? "I just didn't think it relevant because it is such an old spell and really who would have access to such a spell and inclination to use it," he continued concerned.

"We've been over that Albus," McGonagall said frustrated, "the Malfoy family and Draco did, come to think of it there are a lot of old wizarding families who might have access to such an old spell and more than just inclination to use it!" Dumbledore looked a little embarrassed at this obvious statement. But wishing to make amends he pressed on.

Snape felt like he just wanted to walk over to the other side of the headmasters table and punch him right on the nose but he reigned those feelings in as it was not the most dignified way to handle ones emotions towards another person. Besides the last thing he needed was for it to get out that he was now the bat of the dungeons that hit the headmaster!

"So what did you tell them about the grey mist?" Dumbledore asked.

Snape looked at him with a complete look of shock.

"You didn't know that I knew?" Dumbledore asked curiously chuckling and again offering the chocolate frogs, the other two wizards declined them with a simple shake of the head. McGonagall raised her hand against them and said

"Severus, Mel told me of some things which occurred whilst within her home. Don't worry she told me in confidence and has assured me she won't mention them to anybody else. I shall not divulge more here, but rest assured that I have known for quite some time I have just wondered when you would come to me with such information. So what's the plan?" Dumbledore asked.

"Do we have the spell?" McGonagall asked.

Dumbledore turned reaching into a bookcase right behind his desk.

"Here it is," he said taking out the spell book, placing his finger into the middle of the book he placed it on the table in front of the other two wizards, with his "I like chocolate" bookmark sitting on the page opposite.

"So Severus, what is the plan?" Dumbledore asked. As Snape was explaining to them both everything that needed to happen for the spell to be undone something was happening in Harry's bedroom. He was receiving a parcel from Hedwig in his room in Gryffindor tower. A rather odd parcel which had just a little tag on it "from Hagrid"

"What is it?" Ron asked climbing on the bed.

"Not sure!" Harry said then seeing the tag he said "let's open it!"

Ron nodded coming over to Harry's bed and sitting beside him, Harry ripped the wrapping paper off the square object.

The second that Harry ripped the paper off something snapped at him which caused him to drop it on the floor. Both boys standing up on the bed in fright. It snarled and dived under the bed.

"Well that's odd!" Ron said, "you ok Harry?"

"yeah," Harry said shaking his hand a bit, "fine,"

He jumped down onto the floor to find out what it was. Ron was a little scared and just watched him do this. The book jumped at Harry biting at him and Ron jumped on top of it without thinking narrowly missing Harry's foot. "Thanks mate," Harry said.

Ron's heart fluttered. He smiled at me!

"What on earth is going on in here?" Ginny asked walking into the room shortly followed by Hermione.

"Ronald you should have more respect for books get off it!" Hermione said exasperated. The boys ignored her as Ron continued to hold down the book.

Ginny walked over to Ronald pushing him sharply off the book, he landed on the floor. With the book turning and trying to attack him snapping at his sides.

"Ginny what did you do that for we had the thing cornered!" Harry said frustrated.

Hermione sighed taking her wand out of her pocket an pointing it at the book "IMMOBULOUS!" she chanted and the book stopped still, "Maybe we should put this thing back where you got it from before it wakes up," she suggested.

Harry lifted up the packaging which was now all torn apart. "wait a second I think I can work with this," said Ginny walking out of the room. She came back in with a couple of hair ribbons which she used to secure the packaging back around the book. "There now that should work," she said smiling. Ron nodded nervously and Harry smiled, "thank you Ginny,"

"Oh that was so clever Ginny!" Hermione said giving her a big hug.

"I'm surprised Professor Snape didn't send you to school with a copy and a note telling you not to open it!" Ginny said sitting on the edge of the bed next to Harry. Ron was still standing up dusting himself off from his fall.

"Well he's sent him with the book," Hermione said walking over to his books that were stacked on the table. She lifted a book which was wrapped up in black selotape. "I assume this is Hagrid's idea of a practical joke. Maybe he'll teach you how to open it in your first class so I will not meddle with it for now." Was clearly written across a note which was attached to the book.

"Ok…so now I have two!" Harry said.

"Maybe you should give one back to your father Harry, maybe he'd know someone that could use it more or could get some money back on it," Hermione said logically, Ginny and Ron nodded in agreement knowing how hard it was to come across the money for things sometimes.

"Yeah thanks guys I'll think about it," Harry said. He had no intention on telling his father about the book Hagrid had given him and if he mentioned that he already had a book to Hagrid the kindly giant was sure to be upset. No he'd just keep them both and see what happened. He placed the book on top of everything else on his suitcase and went back to sit on the bed.

"Hey Harry you should try one of these!" Neville said as he walked into the room holding a bag of lollies.

"What are these?" Harry asked looking at the bag.

"Oh cool did you get them from Honeydukes?" Ron asked reaching into the bag and taking a lolly.

Seamus started making monkey sounds at that moment and everybody laughed.

"No," Neville said taking another lolly, "gran sent them on with me they were from Uncle Algie," he made a sound like an elephant which was soon overpowered by a roar from Ron which sounded just like a lion. Harry shrugged taking a lolly out of the bag "Oh no mate don't try one of those!" Seamus said laughing but it was too late Harry was chewing on the lolly and smoke came out of his ears as he sounded just like a train!

Harry was the first to notice a disgruntled black owl tapping on the window. He recognised it immediately as his father's owl, Shadow. A beautiful black owl with a look on its face of sheer impatience and frustration which almost imitated its master completely.

"Hello girl, I'm sorry I didn't notice you here have a treat," Harry took one of Hedgwigs owl treats from her cage and offered it to the owl which turned its beak up at it and nipped his fingers.

"Ow," Harry muttered taking the envelope from its beak. He shook his hand and then opened the envelope.

Come to my office now.

S. Snape

That was all that was written and Harry sighed, as he already knew what it was his father wanted he guessed that was all that it needed to say.

"I gotta go guys," he said standing up and scrawling a quick note on the piece of paper.

Ok.

Then giving it back to the owl which was being pretty persistent as if he wanted to escort him there personally!

Harry made the way slowly down to the dungeons. His heart fluttering with anxiety and confusion. He didn't understand why somebody would want to attack him and why would he say those things? He wondered whether or not he was going to be punished for fighting in the corridor and the way his father had said the word "detention" had made him nervous. Still he walked towards his office as if in a dream.

"what took you so long?" Snape asked opening his door. He had become used to the way Harry knocked on the door and the way his footsteps sounded down the hallway. Snape was particularly skilled in these areas which helped when he was working in his spy duties.

"I'm sorry dad," he said, "Neville brought these cool lollies from honeydukes and…"

"Harry, I don't care to know about it," he said calmly, "we have something more serious to discuss. Draco Malfoy has been disciplined quite severely for his attack on you and we have found a removal for your spell."

"Really?" Harry said smiling "that's great!"

"Yes," Snape said, "except the spell must be removed underneath certain conditions. I spent today planning how to manage this with Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledore and we think we have come up with a solution."

"What is it?" Harry asked.

"Just trust me son," Snape said putting his hand on his son's shoulder, "you just remember to act like I am only your professor and be prompt at Dumbledore's office at 8pm tomorrow night."

To be continued...
