Hi Readers.
It's with a heavy heart that I write this :( I've decided that I need to step away from this story. While I have gotten some answers over the past few months and improving, I've come to the realization that I need to work my way back up to my usual level of work (reading, writing, exercising, etc). It's been a tough couple of years and I can't just jump back into the deep end of a 1million+ word universe.
Since I don't know when I'll be able to continue Smoke & Mirrors, and I hate to leave a work unfinished (especially when it is actually finished), I decided to post the rest of the story in the outline/schematic model I have for it. There are three arc left in the story and I've included everything I have to lead up to the reveal and the ending, including plot points, filler text for the scene, and all snippets of conversations I have for it right now. So below is the outline for the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) arc separated out into the chapter format. Any quotes/conversations are bolded in italics.
The next chapter is the Last "Event" and the final reveal of the villian, and then the last one is The Cave arc which will make more sense after reading the reveal. The details get fewer with each section because I would typically fill things in as I get to each arc but it should still give a decent picture of what you would have been reading. Someday I do hope to come back to writing, so if you want to wait I don't suggest reading on.

Chapter 70: Hidden Kitten
- Herbology - Harry helping Luna with herbology
- Harry's dedicated time outside the magicless quarters between classes and dinner
- Closest his chilled body would allow to being outside
- Hermione examining the paper
- Harry planning Snape's party
- Ask Hermione about the port keys - Hermione not listening, Harry accio paper and put it into his back pocket
- Hermione updates party details
- Harry's sphere warms up to tell him to head back
- Luna asks about wedding as they get back to Harry's magicless home
- They get back to quarters to study

Chapter 71: 1/9/23 (Start with SS POV)

- Bday party at hospital
- Mae and Narcissa meet
- Harry's midway through speech - announces adoption
- Excited, and proud, to officially become your son in 99 days
- Talk to his friends about the adoption
Chapter 72: the failed ritual - 1/22 & 1/23
- HP (1/22) Stayed in the hospital until 1/15 and despite being able to do the ritual as early as the 17th, Snape said he wasn't strong enough to start the ritual until the 20th
- Last day of magic spent with friends
- Dueling with friends:
- HP: stop going easy on me… I'm not– Yes you are, I can tell…You're sick, Harry
- Do the last night of the ritual
- Morning 1/23 - ritual failed
- Severus knew something went wrong with the ritual before Harry even woke up
- No nightmares, thrashing, or sweating/vomiting as the last time - peaceful
- Call into work
- Meet with Healer Smithe and Swanson for testing
- Announces BMT needed while remission still viable
- HP: Is it necessary?
- Swanson: What we know is your magic has had negative impact before and as of today you are in remission - a good one too. We don't want to miss the window.
- Need to find Unrelated donor needed
- HP: what about Dudley?
- Swanson: we'll test him, but a cousin is far enough away to practically be unrelated.
Chapter 73: 1/24- (Chemo at clinic)
- Bring Mae to Hogwarts to stay with Harry Harry
- Snape's Discovery at lab: [Run over and start pulling out notices] Severus hadn't been to the lab in weeks, which he felt awful for abandoning his teammates, but he'd read every single update Clagg has sent him, both from his team as well as the others. If he remembered correctly - and he prayed he did – one of them mentioned Walker's team making significant progress using Felix Felicis for organ transplants
- Finds Walker - working on organ donation project
- Walker: Thanks to your idea for FF + altered blood replenisher we've successfully used a closest magical relative to"fill the gaps" for genetics making a nearly perfect match.
- Remember that Draco is related
- Back with Mae & Harry?
- Mae stays over - Nightmare?
Chapter 74: 1/25 (talk to donors)
- Expo: Met with Alton and Swanson
- Fought about using an untested method – Felix Felicis with Dudley as a genetic donor and Draco as the magical donor
- Combine their marrow for Harry
- Treads the line of how he wanted to use Draco in the Dark Ritual to save the other Harry in the other timeline.
- He's going to die if we don't! - Snape lists the statistics for unrelated donor vs related donor
- In the end, they decided that as long as Harry agreed (and understood the risks) they'd do what they need to arrange it
- but first we need to talk to the donors otherwise Harry will never allow it despite the process being virtually harmless to Draco and Dudley.
- Snape talks with donors - Lucius & Narcissa, Draco, Dudley
- HP POV: sick at Quarters with Mae there
- SS comes home and tells him everything
Chapter 75: 1/28 (Testing Day)
- Expo: spent two days confirming the donors
- While testing, Snape meets with solicitor
- I need to move the adoption up-Snape
- Elias: that's going to be impossible
- Snape: Harry might be dying and I want to give him the family he deserves and I will imperious whoever it takes to get it done.
- Harry's POV:
- Tests - magical means to speed it up
- Schedule - BMT 2/27
- Snape tells him new adoption date (2/13)
Chapter 76: Preparations
- SS prepares home
- Talks to Lupin about being the second main caregiver for Harry
- "Surely Molly's more qualified. She's taken care of seven children"- Remus
- "Do you really think Harry will feel comfortable with his best friend's mother sitting in the lavatory with him? What about helping him take a piss if he needs it?!" Snape
- "I just don't know if I'm the best option given my track record and well, the moon" -Remus
- "Get your head out of your pity party and for once in your life stand up for those who need you! You said you wanted to help more and this is your chance." - Snape
Chapter 77: 2/13 (Pre-admission meeting & Adoption)
- Meet Friday, admit Monday morning
- Discuss next steps
- Port Removal:
- Harry: why do I need to get it out? I thought the Port was easier to use?
- Swanson: if all goes as planned, you won't need it anymore.
- HP: Why?
- Swanson: you won't need chemotherapy anymore.
- Conditioning: intense chemotherapy and radiation to kill all of your immune system. Without the block, likely to kill off remaining magic. We'll manage the pain the best we can.
- BMT procedure
- Draco donor from magical Potter side
- Dudley from muggle Evans side
- Felix Felicis/magic to bridge gap between them
- Quarantine required after transplant: 100 days total, Days 0-21 inpatient and Days 21-100 at home
- Home plans
- Journal recommended to manage his feelings about the transplant

Chapter 78: 2/14 & 2/15
- Valentine's Day for both Harry and Snape
- Harry's last day of freedom with friends
- Harry talks to Dudley about donating for him:
- (HP) What do you think your parents would think about you going through this for me? That I'm ruining your life?
- (DD) You're not ruining my life.
- (HP) I kind of already did. If Dumbledore hadn't… confunded? that's what I'm guessing he did… Aunt Marge, you wouldn't be here.
- (DD) Severus did it, actually, and I asked him to. After they brought me here, I donated blood for your first transfusion. I asked if I could stay – what it would take for me to stay and Severus said he could arrange it if I really wanted to
