- This is brilliant. Don't know how I missed this little masterpiece before! I love how you took one little part of a scene and wove a whole new and complex story from it, even managing to keep it canon. Well done! Snape's portrait was a nice touch at the end.
Author's Response: Thank you very much! You really hit on one of my main concerns -- keeping my story Canon! I've written AU stuff, but here I truly wanted to create an extension of JKR's story, and I tried to build it directly from every Snape scene in HBP (excluding what Hagrid overheard -- we love Hagrid, but he's somewhat an unreliable narrator!). And I'll admit, I had a blast writing the Pensive scene, especially going into memories inside memories! Thanks for reading and reviewing! 😊

Instead, he finds himself stepping off the Hogwarts Express at Kings Cross Station at the beginning of the Christmas hols. His parents greet him with hugs and Harry is drawn into a loving Christmas holiday at Godric's Hollow.

Harry thought having detention with Umbridge over his winter holidays were bad enough, but now his hand is infected, the other students and staff are getting far too deep into the Christmas spirit, and he really just wants to suffer alone.

- AAh, great chapter break! Both your beginnings and endings to chapters are excellent. You know exactly how to draw us in. I love your dialogue and Harry's inner thoughts. Some stories tend to be too much in the protagonists head, but yours isn't. It's nice and pacey and you trust your reader enough not to explain everything - that's great writing!

Harry is dragged along for trick-or-treating to collect double the amount of candy for Dudley. After being dropped off in an unfamiliar neighborhood, Harry is tricked by Dudley and his friends to go to the Forbidden House on the Corner, a supposedly haunted house inhabited by a child-eating vampire.
