About me:

I write the Harry Potter fanfiction "A Year Like None Other" and stories related to that universe. I also write original fiction:

If you have enjoyed the "Like None Other" series, I invite you to give my original fiction a try. I now have a historical romance available online. Go to Aspen Originals to see a summary, read the prologue and first chapter, and check out what other readers are saying about Laskin's Bluff.

I'm very pleased that so many people have enjoyed my efforts at showing how an alternate 6th year and beyond might go, if Harry were adopted by Severus. Here are awards that my Harry Potter stories have won:

At the Dursleys the summer after Sirius' death, Voldemort sends werewolves to attack Harry. Taken to Grimmauld Place by his rescuer, Severus Snape, Harry devises a disastrous plan to rescue Sirius from the veil, resulting in his being transfigured into a baby. Snape is the only one who can brew the potion to restore him, and is the only one to realize that Harry still retains his 16 year-old-mind. Over the summer and the first two potions which restore him to age eleven, Harry begins to feel that Snape is the only one who understands and can protect him. Is he right or has his deaging muddled his thinking? AU story for 6th year.

Oh, this is most, most charming! I just love your take on baby!Harry!

What might have been had Harry not gone to the Dursley's all those years ago, but instead been raised as a wizard.

I loved the image of Severus with lima beans in his hair. Now, that's one I would like to see on screen. Somehow I don't expect to get my wish, though!

Thirteen-year-old Harry is forced into the body of another Harry in a parallel world, where Snape adopted him years ago. And Snape is enraged to discover that his son has been replaced by a stranger. In our world, Snape discovers a new Harry--one who sees him as a father he never wanted to be. Each Harry must learn to survive in a strange new world, and search for a way home.

I am LOVING this. The alternating known/parallel worlds are fascinating, though I have to keep reminding myself who's who, LOL. "This is Daddy!Snape with canon!Harry...."

    But the story is magnificent.

Do you mind if I rec this on my LJ and my yahoo group? It's truly wonderful watching canon Harry learn to have a father and canon Snape learn to have a son!

    Author's Response:

Aspeninthesunlight!  My favorite sneaky snarky snacky Slytherin!  I recommend "A Year Like None Other" to anyone who asks...and a few who don't.  ;)  You have no idea how thrilled I am that you reviewed.  It's fantastic getting words of praise from an author I admire so much.  I spent some time today basking.  :)

Of course you can rec it!  Feel free to e-mail me (via the "contact" link in my profile) if you have any questions or comments or...just want to dish about writing.  :)

    > I have to keep reminding myself who's who

It's the main problem readers have with the story.  I've been changing the chapter notes to make it clearer, but the back-and-forth chapters are always going to be a bit disorienting.  I compare it to the movie "Memento": it's confusing at times, but it's fun to be confused because the structure is so different and new.  *shrug*  Hopefully.

Hi again. Still waiting for a new chapter in this story -- what's up? LOL -- sorry, don't mean to pressure you. But this is wonderful and more will be very much appreciates.

I really dropped by to say that I'm sorry I didn't post my rec of this story sooner, but at least it's up now.

You can go read it, if you wish, at
    http://aspenlight.livejournal.com/88274.html

Your work is wonderful and I hope you keep it up,

    Aspen

    Author's Response:

No pressure, after the many new readers you sent to me via your recommendation?  (Thank you so much, by the way.)

I will post as quickly as I can--the next chapter is completed in rough draft form, but it's lengthy (lengthy for me, anyway--26 pages), and I have very little free time to edit.  I could use several days off from work just to concentrate on it, but unfortunately there are those bills to pay...

Thank you again for your encouragement and support.  I will do my best to get it posted soon.  And if you have any tips on how to edit super-long chapters, I'll take 'em.

A duel with Draco leads to drastic and permanent consequences for both Harry and Severus.

Ah, Jan helped me out and I can finally sign in. Still reading this, still loving it. I do wonder about Severus' statement that he couldn't see how the reporters could find out about the enslavement, though. Draco knows what incantation he used. If he researches on his own what it did, or tells his father the incantation and the word spreads from there -- Dumbledore found the answer, so could others.

Now, if you KILL Draco off before he can blab, then I could believe there's no chance that word will spread.

    Author's Response:

Hi, Aspen!  I'm glad you were able to sign in and glad that you're enjoying SC!  As I said, I really feel honoured that you do because the AYLNO saga is just such a landmark fic and I love it so much.

Okay, this may be a little farfetched or there may be loopholes I haven't thought of, but this is what I'm thinking as far as Draco knowing the slavery spell.  He does know the actual words he spoke, but since the spell was written in an archaic form of Latin, he doesn't know what it did.  Yes, he could try to find some texts on old languages and translate it on his own, as DD did, but for one thing, he really hasn't gotten that curious about it yet.  Dumbledore implied that Harry was perfectly fine, that he'd made a full recovery, and the whole reason Dumbledore did that was to attempt to allay Draco's suspicions.  Draco said that the other spells he'd used from that book were relatively harmless, or rather, that they could be easily reversed, so he doesn't really suspect that there have been any lasting or permanent consequences for Harry.  He thinks that Dumbledore was angry just on principle, because it is illegal, immoral, and potentially dangerous to cast an unknown spell.

For another thing, Draco has had some other things going on this summer that have kept him occupied and have had an effect on him.

So...no, it's not impossible that anyone else could ever find out about the spell, but Severus just meant that he didn't believe that Harry's making a statement to the public would lead to its discovery.

Lol, no I'm not planning to kill Draco off...that would ruin all the fun, wouldn't it?

    Thanks again!

This is a one-shot for AYLNO. If you haven't read the series, don't read this!
