About me:

I have a long-term reading addiction, and have been writing accompanying fanfiction for about eight years now. Initially they were mostly poetry/songs, but I’m starting to lean more towards actual stories (Seeing is Believing is my longest to date).

While I very much enjoy reading longer novels with complex plot, my writing brain seems to be wired for oneshots. I have a single concept or plot point, and have a tendency to stop right after the climax rather than looking into the aftermath.

Summer after fourth year is finally over, and things are not as expected when Harry makes it back to the magical world. Badly broken and determined for it to stop, Harry turns to, surprisingly, a certain Potions Master, who in turn finds within himself, of all places, a heart still beating and waiting to love, and be loved in turn.

    It was interesting seeing the way Snape interacted/connected with each of the Marauders, and the different methods they used to convince him to live.
    Peter is the betrayer and Death Eater, warning about his fate if he has not atoned sufficiently yet.
    James connects with him through Lily, the two men knowing and loving her the best.
    Remus, despite Snape's aversion to his wolf side, is the one he actually respects the most - at least his intelligence - and is the one whose oppinions he might actually listen to.
    Sirius takes the opposite path, using their mutual antagonism to encourage Snape to choose to spite him.

    I like the way you left the ending open, although a hint of what a future with a living Snape is like wold have been nice.

Before Harry arrives at Hogwarts, the faculty have a meeting and decide that Harry will need a mentor to help him adjust, keep him out of trouble, and make protecting him easier. They decide that this person should the Head of the House into which Harry is sorted, presumably Minerva McGonagall. But things, of course, don't turn out as planned, and Harry is harder to deal with than anyone expected. Nobody asked him if he wanted a mentor, after all...

NOTE: This story has a prologue. It is not necessary to the plot of the story, but if you wish to read it, it is called(predictably enough) 'Prologue to Life as Dictated by a Talking Hat'

    Just finished reading for the second time this year; I really enjoyed it. you have a nice balance of plot, character development and humour. You managed the idea of Slythindors quite well, and I like the development of Theo and Blaise as characters.

    I particularly liked the way Harry and Snape's relationship almost crept up on them, with both fighting tooth and claw against it :P . It is really nice seeing a slightly more assertive Harry in this sort of story, one who copes by pushing back and testing the boundaries.

Mark Evans was rescued from Dudley’s gang by Harry the summer before he got his Hogwarts letter. Severus Snape introduces Mark to the wizarding world, takes him to buy his supplies, etc., and Mark is sorted into Slytherin. He approaches Snape for help finding information about laws in the wizarding world, wanting to do something about Harry's situation at home with the abusive Dursleys to repay his debt to him.     Nice. I like the way you show what Mark thinks, and comparing Harry to Cinderella was a nice touch.
    I thought the way that Snape fixes things at the end was very in character and Slytherin, much more plausible than the more direct approach authors often use.

    I enjoyed the way that each of the three broke their House stereotype in the protectiveness for Harry, but in a way that still fits their personality. I wonder who/how will be Hufflepuff?

What's in a name? The-boy-who-lived, prophesied defeater of the Dark Lord, son of the supremely intelligent Lily Evans and talented James Potter, Golden boy of Gryffindor, part-time punching bag and house elf of the Dursleys and the bane of Severus Snape's teaching career, Harry's used to labels. Who would want Harry when they can see instead whoever they like instead? Having never been entirely sure who he is makes him a little too open to suggestion though and unfortunately for him, Umbridge wants to banish his old list of names and create a new one of her own.
Beneath the names others have branded him with will anyone be able to find Harry?

    I almost feel sorry for Umbridge having all four of them furious with her... except I really don't. Poor Harry.

    If/when you get around to writing some more, can we have some more Ron? I really like how you've portrayed him, such a supportive and understanding friend.

    My favourite line is actually right back in the second. Snape comments that he really needs to stop confusing when he is being a spy and when he is a teacher, so he can stop instinctively reacting to weakness and losing all his evenings to detention.

As far as Harry knew, it was all some sort of experiment that only Dumbledore could understand. He had no idea that the cat he had been given to keep him company instead of Hedwig over the holidays before his 3rd year, was in fact, his hated Potions Master in disguise.

Because of the Azkaban escapee, Sirius Black, Severus is sent to stay with Harry during the entire summer, never making a sound nor leaving the boy's side. He could not speak, nor could he defend Harry against anyone other than the criminal on the loose, however Severus does something that no other adult in Harry's life had done before...he listened.

    An interesting idea and well-written, although I'm a bit surprised that you didn't include mention of the cat-flap in Harry's door given Snape's current form.

Albus Dumbledore was a master manipulator. He knew what was best, and he knew how to get it, and how to get you to accept it. He always had the last say, and always got his way, which would eventually become your way (whether you liked it or not). And sometimes, sometimes, you wouldn’t even know that you had been manipulated.

    I love all your stories (you almost always manage to get exactly the right tone), but this is one of my favourites. I keep remembering random scenes and wanting to go back and read the whole thing again.
