Third year brings new troubles to Hogwarts, but none more than Harry Potter with the breakout the Dark Lord's right hand man, Sirius Black. Determined to finish what his master failed, Harry is sent back to the Dursleys where he can be safe within the blood wards and not allowed to visit the Weasleys at all nor contact his friends. To make sure of this, Hedwig is forbidden from being taken back to the Dursleys, yet after Sirius is sighted near Privet Drive, Professor Snape is forced to take control of Harry as an apprentice. However, when Snape arrives at Privet Drive, he discovers that Potter is missing. Is it Black that kidnapped him? Is it someone or something else more sinister? Harry is found in an unlikely place and taken away, forbidden from contact with his friends as he is thrust into the role of apprentice. Yet amidst these troubles, Harry discovers something about himself and a hidden crime that only a murderer and his best friends know, something that may change Harry's future for the better...or the worse.

It was strange, to say the least, to see it in a child so young, suffering so much. A child whom Severus and the majority of the wizarding world had thought to be a spoilt prince with a heart beating contemptibly. Severus hated being wrong. *** Harry Potter is sorted into Slytherin, which automatically makes his problems Severus' problems. Like, more so than usual. Severus, being the ridiculously responsible professor that he is, has an important discussion with the boy.

Harry's spiralling out of control. After a particularly brutal summer in Little Whinging, he craves power like he's never known before. It starts small, a curious, tentative dark curse here and there, nothing major. Accidental at first, really. It just keep growing and growing. He's addicted and he can't stop. Not that he really seems to want to. Snape is sick of the boy's lack of concentration and respect. For his own sanity and his love for Lily, he realises that he must do something about Potter's recent behaviour. He doesn't like what he finds.
