I never thought about Shacklebolt's name; for some reason I always read it as Shackenbolt so I never noticed! You could think of it in another way though: the bolt is what holds a shackle either open or closed. It could be significant that he is one with the power to judge innocence or guilt, rather than it being a matter of freedom or slavery. But I don't know the reasons behind JKR giving him that name. |
