Chapter one by Nightshade

"How could this have happened, Albus?" Lily demanded.

Dumbledore sighed. "The Ministry has been trying to get Harry for years Lily. You know this. So of course their going to do everything in their power to gain custody of him in the event that something should happen to you. Merlin forbid." Dumbledore laced his fingers together. "Now that Sirius Black is dead, you must find someone else to take care of Harry. I understand your first choice was Remus Lupin. But because of his...condition, the ministry has said no."

Lily got to her feet and paced. "The ministry shouldn't have a say on who I deem worthy to take care of my son!" Lily took a deep breath to calm herself. "I assume the ministry gave a list of recommendations."

"They did." Dumbledore took a piece of parchment out of his desk and read aloud. "The ministry recommends: the Malfoy family," Lily made a rude coughing noise. "The ministry itself."

"It will be a cold day in hell before I let Harry become a ward to the ministry!"

Dumbledore nodded. "And the last...the Dursley's."

"No." Lily sat down and crossed her arms and legs. "Harry will never go to the Malfoy's, Ministry, or my sister and her kin."

"I understand Lily. But the ministry isn't making this easy. Isn't there anyone else you trust enough for this job?"

Lily shook her head. "The only ones I'd really trust other than Remus is you, the Weasley's, Minerva and Poppy. But none of you can do the job."

"The Weasley's would be my first choice as well." Dumbledore said kindly. "But I agree with you. They have enough children of their own at the moment. And Minerva, myself, and Poppy are just too old." He went silent, deep in thought.

Lily broke the silence. "Albus, what about Sev?"

Dumbledore instantly shook his head. "The ministry would never allow him to, not with his past record. And what would happen when I need him to Spy again,"

Lily cut in. "Severus may not want to spy again. Should, God forbid, Voldemort return."

"After last year, Lily." Dumbledore said gravely. "Do you truly believe that Voldemort is gone?"

"No. But if I have to choose someone to take care of my son than Sev would be the one. The only reason I didn't choose him in the begining was because of his hatred of James, and his blindness towards Harry."

"I was getting to that point as well." Dumbledore interrupted. "Do you really think Severus would agree to take in your son? Perhapes he'd take the boy in because you are a dear friend of his, but would he treat Harry as if he were his own?"

Lily was silent for a moment. Would Sev take good care of her son? Or would his hatred for James blind him from truly seeing Harry, again? Lily wasn't ignorant of the fact that Severus Snape had so far treated Harry unfairly. But perhapes Lily could change that.

"Sev was once my dearest friend. I believe I can reason with him and get him to start to see Harry instead of James."

Dumbledore shook his head. "I can only say that I hope your right." he paused. "Severus is on the Hogwarts Express right now."

"Why?"

"There have been rumors; Death Eaters that escaped Azkaban will be attacking the train," Dumbledore began.

"WHAT?! And you just let us parents put our children on that train!" Lily was on her feet and was heading toward the door to find the Hogwarts Express, but Dumbledore stopped her.

"These rumors were not reliable. But as a precaution I placed several charms on the Express as well as teachers. You have nothing to fear Lily."

Lily didn't look convinced. Slowly she adjusted her cloak. "I'll deal with this Albus. Thank you for your assistance though."

Dumbledore nodded. "My door is always open to you. But i must ask you. How do you plan to make Severus see Harry?"

Lily smiled slightly. "I will simply request he get to know my son. He and Harry don't realize this, but they really do have a lot in common. We'll just simply have to help them see this."

Dumbledore laughed. "Good luck with that, my child."

Laughing as well, Lily left the office, heading toward St. Mungo's.

***

"I heard Snape's on the train." Ron said as he, Harry, and Hermione searched for an empty compartment.

"Great, just what we need." Harry mummbled.

"Honestly," Hermione snapped. "He's a teacher we shouldn't be..."

"Don't even start on the whole 'respect teacher's' lecture, Hermione." Ron said as they finally stopped at the last compartment.

"See is someone's in there." Harry said.

Ron looked inside and found Professor's Flitwick and Snape sitting inside. Flitwick looked like he had been about to take a nap, while Snape was reading a potions book.

At the sight of the trio, Flitwick smiled. "Hello Mister Weasley, Potter, Miss Granger. Are you looking for a compartment?" he asked kindly.

"Yes Professor. But we don't want to disturb you." Hermione said.

Snape glared and made a growling sort of noise. No doubt thinking there was no way they could possible not disturb him.

"Nonsense. Sit, sit." Flitwick motioned for them to come in.

Harry quickly took a seat far away from Snape. Hermione sat beside Flitwick; unfortunate for Ron, who now had to sit beside Snape.

"Did you children enjoy your holiday?" Their tiny teacher asked.

"It was alright." Ron said. Trying to somehow stay as far away from Snape as he could without making a scene.

"Enjoyable." Hermione said taking a book on transfiguration out.

Harry shrugged. In truth his summer had been strange. His mother had been going to the hospital alot. 'Having tests done,' she'd said. And she'd been acting funny lately too.

Realizing his teacher was still waiting for him to answer he said. "It was diffrent, but alright." Harry shrugged.

Hermione sensing something asked. "What do you mean Harry?"

Uncomfortable now, especially beacuse Snape was here, Harry said. "Mum's been going to the Hospital alot lately. Said she was having tests done. But she doesn't seem sick enough to have to have tests done."

"You'r mother's been ill?" Snape spoke softly, speaking for the first time. And, surprisingly, there was no malice in his voice or features.

Harry nodded. He really didn't want to talk about it. Not with his friends and certainly not with Snape.

Flitwick seemed to notice Harry's discomfort for he quickly began a conversation with Hermione about his essay that he had assigned.

"Do you want to play wizard's chess?" Ron asked.

Glad for a distration Harry smiled and said, " Sure."

As the train ride went on Harry noticed that Snape didn't make one cruel remark to him and that he looked...worried? And for the life of him Harry could not figure out why.

Harry also never noticed the pair of black eyes studying him, perhapes really studying him, for the first time.

Chapter two by Nightshade
Author's Notes:
Here is number 2!

'Lily's ill!' No matter how hard he tried, Severus simply could not wrap his mind around it. Ever since he and Lily had been small children they'd been friends. And never, not even in his wildest dreams, had he ever thought Lily would get sick.

'But she may not be.' Severus thought to himself. 'Potter only said she had been having tests done. That doesn't mean she's...' Severus couldn't even bring himself to think the word.

Without anyone's notice, he continued to watch the boy. He seemed very troubled, at least to the former spy. To everyone else in the compartment the Potter boy appeared normal.

'Perhaps I'll write to Lily. There's no harm in checking in on an old friend.' Severus told himself. Trying to convince himself that Lily was perfectly fine, and that he had not seen a glimpse of his best friend and secret love of his life in Potter's son.

'But he's Lily's son too.' a voice nagged in the back Severus' head.

Glaring slightly, Snape shook his head to rid himself of further thoughts of the Potter brat.

Standing, Snape exited the train with Flitwick, determined to speak to Dumbledore and find out how much he knew about Lily.

***

"Did you guys notice that Snape didn't say one word to me?" Harry asked as the sorting ended.

"No." Ron started piling food onto his plate.

"Yes actually." Hermione had a thoughtfull look. "I also noticed that he seemed concerned when you mentioned your mom."

Harry shrugged, though inside he was reeling. Why would Snape care about his mom? Well, he knew how to find out. "Yeah, I did notice."

"Wonder what that was about." Ron said suddenly.

"Huh?" Both Harry and Hermione were confused.

"Snape was just talking to Dumbledore, and by the looks of it Snape is not happy." Ron swallowed his food. "He just stormed out."

Harry looked up at the head table, and sure enough, Snape's seat was empty. And Dumbledore was shaking his head slightly.

"I can already tell this year is not going to be normal." Hermione sighed.

Harry nodded. "I'm going up early. I told my mom I'd write to her tonight."

"And," Hermione wasn't dumb. She knew Harry was hiding something.

"And I really don't want to talk about 'it' right now." Harry started to rise.

"Mate, you know you can tell us anything, right?" Ron said quietly. Not wanting to draw anyones attention.

Hermione nodded in agreement. "Yes, Harry. You can always talk to us." She paused, uncertain. "Even about your mother."

Harry completely stood now. "Thanks. But I don't want to talk about it. Please understand guys." Before either Ron or Hermione could say another word Harry was heading toward the owlery.

But Harry wasn't the only one who had planned to visit the owlery before bed, however.

Severus Snape briskly headed down the owlery steps, having just owled his own message.

Seeing Harry, he sneered. "Potter. Shouldn't you be down at the feast?"

Glaring at his potions teacher Harry answered. "No sir."

Eyes narrowed Snape decided to leave Harry alone. For now. Robes billowing he headed back to his dungeons.

Leaving Harry slightly confused. Snape never missed an opportunity to take points or insult him. Wierd. Finally reaching the owlery Harry took out a piece of paper and a pen. He wrote,

Mom, how did the tests go? I know you got your results today. Please tell me the truth. Even if its bad. Ron and Hermione said hello. Harry paused. Should he ask?... Yes. He had to know. Mom... Snape knows you've been having tests done and that you might be sick. Please don't ask me how he found out, at the moment its not important. But when he found out he seemed...worried, I think. Can you explain that? I hope you're ok. I love you alot. Please write back soon, even to just say hi. Lots of LOVE, Harry. XOXOXO!

As he reread his letter Harry called his owl, Hedwig, over. "Give this to mom. Ok girl?"

Sensing her masters saddness and anxiety, Hedwig affectionately nipped Harry's finger.

Smiling dispite his worries, Harry lovingly stroaked her feathers. "Thanks girl. Fly safely."

Without hesitation Hedwig took flight. Not knowing another owl was ahead of her, barring a letter to Lily Potter as well.

Chapter three by Nightshade
Author's Notes:
Hi everyone! I'm very happy people are liking the story so far. I'm also warning you ahead of time; I'm literally hopeless with computers and what not so if I somehow mess up chapter orders(again) or have a chapter repeated, please forgive me and I'll try to fix it. A big thanks to Jan for fixing it. And again sorry incase it happens in the future.
On with the story!

Lily was sitting in her favorite armchair thinking, 'What am I going to tell Harry?' when two owls knocked at her window.

"Hedwig? And whose this with you?" Hedwig cooed and gently landed on Lily's shoulder. The black owl eyed Hedwig with distrust, obviously used to bigger birds.

"So this ones from Harry," Lily placed her son's letter down on the desk. "Now who do we have here?" Gently Lily strocked the black owl and untied the letter from his leg. "Well, well, well. Severus Snape. Now what could my old friend have to say, I wonder?" Sitting herself back down in her chair, Lily read,

Lily,

I know it has been a long time since we have spoken...I still consider you a dear friend. Not one to beat around the bush, as the muggles say, I have recently discovered certain...facts, that I wish to discuss with you. Please don't misunderstand my intentions. I only wish to help. If you'll let me, and if I can in anyway. Perhaps we could meet?

Hoping this letter finds you well, SS

Lily sighed. How did Severus find out? Or was he talking about something she didn't know?

Slowly she opened Harry's letter, which both brought tears to her eyes and confirmed her earlier thoughts. Sev knew she may be ill. And Harry...her smart little Harry, suspected as much too.

"What am I going to do Hedwig?" she asked the owl. "I'm going to have to act fast... time is not on my side anymore."

***

Severus Snape was sitting in his sitting room, reading a Potions text (of course!) when he heard a knock on his door. Without hesitating, he pulled out his wand and readied himself for a fight. After years of being a spy, he never took any chances.

However, he was not prepared for who was waiting for him outside his door.

Hidden beneath a black cloak, hood over her face, stood Lily Potter nee Evans. "Hello Sev. Sorry to just pop in like this... but we need to talk. Now. If you have the time."

Still startled that Lily was standing infront of him, Severus nodded and stepped aside to allow her entrance. "I must say I am surprised." he said once he got over his shock. "I only wrote to you a few hours ago."

Lowering her hood Lily said, "Yes. But I had already planned to pay you a visit. You see...I have a problem Severus."

Knowing, by his friend's use of his full name, that she was serious. He said. "Have a seat."

Once both were seated Lily began. "You were not the only one who wrote to me tonight, Severus. Harry also wrote to me. Can you guess what he said?"

Glarring slightly Severus said sternly. "I haven't so much a taken a point from Potter..." yet.

"I'm not here to discuss your treatment of my son. Not now anyway. And his name is Harry, Sev. Not Potter." Lily closed her eyes. Severus wasn't making this easy for her. And at the moment she was exhausted.

Sensing her discomfort, Severus bowed his head. "I apologize Lily. I didn't mean to upset you."

"I know Sev." Lily said weakly. Slowly she opened her eyes. "Before I continue with my main reason for coming here I need to talk to you about Harry."

Severus suppressed the urge to roll his eyes and sneer. "What about him?"

Lily raised an eyebrow. "Don't give me that attitude Severus Tobias Snape. You and I both know your treatment of him is completely childish, petty, and unfair." Lily took a deep breath. "The matters I wish to speak to you about cannot be done unless I know you'll keep an open mind and that you'll act maturely. Can you do this? Please."

Severus, for a moment had had every intention of telling her no. That he refused to talk about the Potter brat. But that voice in the back of his head spoke again, determinedly. 'He's also LILY'S son! Lily clearly loves him. Maybe your wrong. Besides... would Lily, our Lily, really raise the boy to be a brat?'

Sighing in defeat, Severus said calmly. "What is it you wish to discuss, Lily? I assume whatever your son wrote in his letter was important. Otherwise you wouldn't have brought it up."

Knowing that was all the answer she was going to get out of her Slytherin friend, Lily nodded. "He wrote that you know about me possible being ill. And your letter gave me the impression that you know as well. Was that what you ment?"

"Yes. I didn't mean to pry into your personal business, Lily. I was just...concerned." Even to Lily, whom he had known most of his life, it was hard to express himself.

Smiling slightly, Lily said gently. "Thank you Sev. You are a good friend." Straitening up. "Severus, what I'm about to tell you I want you to keep to yourself. I'll tell anyone else if and when I want to." Taking a deep calming breath; Severus could tell Lily was nervous, and possible...afraid?

"I'm dying Sev." Lily's voice was sad and soft.

Severus instantly was on his feet. He didn't know why but he simply couldn't just sit there...but standing wasn't much better.

"Sev," Lily pleaded. "Please sit down."

Without speaking, and not taking his eyes off of her face he sat and waited for her to continue.

"I have cancer, specifically, Leukemia." Before Severus could open his mouth Lily held up her hands and said. "I know its a muggle disease. The Healers couldn't tell me how I got it. Seeing as its a rare thing, a witch or wizard getting a muggle disease like this.

"Two months ago I found out I might be ill. As Harry told you, I've been in and out of the Hospital having tests done to find out what I have. Today I found out."

"Oh Lily." Severus didn't know what to say. "Are there any potions, or muggle drugs?"

"You know not all muggle medicine can be used on us Sev. As for potions... there is no cure Sev, magic or non." Lily's green eyes were no longer bright, only sad and dull. "The only real thing that can help me is chemo. And..."

"Its DEADLY!" Severus looked frightened now. "Lily, you know the chances for witches and wizards to die using that...filth." Severus held up his hands, much like Lily had before. "I'm not saying anything against muggles, but you have to admit most, if not all, of their products are lethal to us."

Eyes narrowed slightly, Lily snapped. "I know Severus! But what other choice do I have? I can't leave Harry completely defenceless." Tears starting to fall now, Lily continued softly. "I don't know if you know this; for years the ministry has been trying to take Harry away from me. They want to use him...use him as a weapon and for publicity. They think just because he survived Voldemort's," she ignored Severus's flinch at the sound of the name. "attack as a baby that he can survive anything. I know better. Yes, someday he will be a powerful wizard. But he is still human, he's still a child."

Lily stopped. Tears continued to flow unchecked down her cheeks. "I don't know what to do Sev. I know you hated James. And though you try to deny it, I also know you never really forgave me for marrying him. But Harry isn't James. He's Harry. He's not just James' son. He's my son!" For the first time since she began crying Lily looked into Severus Snape's eyes. "Please Sev... please help me take care of my son. Help me find a way to protect him. And help me find a way to survive." Lily stood and knelt down before her best friend. "Severus, my friend. Please, I beg you. Look past Harry's appearance and see my son. Please."

Severus, pride be damned, helped Lily stand. "Lily... You know I'll help you. But I can't untill you are calm. So sit down and I'll get us some tea." Turning away from her he threw some floo powder into the fire. "Two cups of tea. Severus Snape's rooms." Instantly a tray of tea appeared on the table.

"Here."

Lily shakily took the cup and tried to compose herself. "I'm sorry Severus. I never intended to break down like that."

Sipping his own tea, he replied, in what he hoped was a calm voice. "Its understandable Lily. You're going through a life changing thing right now. And naturally you're concerned about your son." Blushing slightly, for he wasn't used to comforting people. Let alone strong, always-knowing-what-to-do, Lily.

Lily nodded sadly. "The ministry refuses to let me have Remus as Harry's Godfather. And now that Sirius is gone I need to find someone soon." Looking up at Severus she said. "The ministry kindly," this was said sarcastically and with bitterness. "recommended the Malfoy's, the Ministry itself, and Petunia."

It took everything Severus had not to laugh. As if Lily would ever allow her son to go to any of those places. "How thoughtfull of them. I suppose you have ideas for your son's new godparent(s)."

Lily looked tired and worried now. "Yes, actually I do have one person in mind."

Severus raised an eyebrow. Wondering who the unlucky...oops. Lucky person was.

"You."

Chapter four by Nightshade
Author's Notes:
Hi! Sorry its been so long. But life got in the way. I hope you all enjoy this chapter.

For a moment Severus didn’t know what to do or say. So, he merely stared.

Lily patiently waited for her words to sink into her shocked friend.

One second…

Two seconds…

Three seconds… That’s it!

“WHAT?” Severus leaped to his feet and started pacing. “Lily. Do you even know what you’re saying? Me. Godfather of…”

Standing, Lily crossed her arms over her chest. “Yes Severus, I know what I just said. I said I would like you, Severus Snape, to be godfather of my son. Harry. James wanted Sirius to be godfather. I, I had my doubts.” Lily sighed.

Severus snorted.

Eyes narrowing, Lily continued. “Sirius was more like an older brother. I need someone who will be like a parent for Harry.”

Severus cut her off coolly “Lily. Before you continue, think about what you’re asking and saying. Think about the past as well, while you’re at it. I have never been kind to Pot-Harry,” he corrected when Lily glared. “Never mind paternal. So, put simply my friend…Have you lost your mind?”

Lily lost all patience now. “Severus Tobias Snape. You listen and you listen well. Harry James Potter is not James Potter! He is mine and James’ son! If you can give me one good reason for your dislike for him, I’ll let the matter drop and never bring it up to you again. If not, you will sit there and listen to what I have to say. Agreed?”

Severus glared. He really didn’t want to have this discussion. Of all things for Lily to ask. No, scratch that. Want. She had technically not asked him. Yet.

‘Oh yes she did.’ a small voice snapped at Severus.

‘Shut up!’ Severus snapped at himself.

“I’m waiting.” Lily said.

“Fine! Here are my reasons: He’s a natural rule breaker,”

“All twelve year olds are. You were.”

“He’s arrogant, foolhardy,” Severus continued.

“Severus!” Lily shook her head. “I asked you to tell me why you don’t like my son. Not describe to me how James was as a young child. Now honestly; why do you dislike my son? Why do dislike Harry.” Lily waited. Praying that perhaps she had really gotten through to her stubborn friend.

Severus stared at the witch before him. How she ever managed to remain strong and calm throughout this evening he’d never know. As he stared at her. Severus allowed, for the first time ever, his thoughts to wonder. He honestly couldn’t come up with a reason to dislike the boy. For years the mere fact that he was James Potter’s son had been enough for him. But now…?

‘Do you really even know the boy?’ the voice inside his head said smugly.

‘No.’ Severus thought. ‘Now leave me alone.’

‘Can’t. I’m you. Remember?’ the voice laughed.Shaking his head Severus sighed. “I’ll try to…be nicer to him.”Lily raised an eyebrow. “Thank you Sev. You don’t realize it now, but you two really are a lot alike. Who knows, you may actually like him.” Lily smirked.

“I highly doubt that. Mrs. Potter.” Severus smirked slightly. “Not that I don’t like your company Lily. But I do have classes tomorrow. Shall we continue this discussion another time?”

Standing Lily nodded. “Perhaps next weekend? That’ll give you time to try and get to know Harry.”

“Lily, please bear in mind I have a part to play. My Slytherin’s will notice immediately if I suddenly start being…less strict, to your son. Do you by chance have a solution for this problem?”

Lily laughed and nodded. “Harry does actually enjoy potions Sev. I personally think though his grade could be better. I have written to him that his A- needs to be raised to at least an E. Normally I wouldn’t nag at him about it seeing as A- is passing, but I know he can do better. So he will be getting a letter that you will be tutoring him in potions. For your image you may call it Remedial potions.”

Severus raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure you weren’t supposed to be in Slytherin?”

Lily laughed a little. “Yes Sev. I am a Gryffindor.”

Noticing his friend’s tiredness, Severus stood. “Don’t worry Lily, we’ll get through this. You know I’ll do anything and everything I can, and that if you ever need anything, you can come to me, don’t you?”

“Yes Sev, thank you so much.” Lily hugged Severus quickly then she pulled her hood up. “Expect Harry at 8:00 tomorrow night.” Lily opened the door and started to slip away, but then stopped. “Sev, you may not believe me now, but I believe one day you will thank me for this.”

“I highly doubt that Lils, but like I said, I will try.”

“That’s all I can ask for”

****

Harry stared in shock and dismay at the letter he had just received from his mother. 'She wants me to what!'

Sensing her friends discomfort Hermione asked. "What wrong, Harry?"

Hands numb, Harry handed the letter over the his friends.

"She wants you to what?" Ron all but shouted.

Harry glared. Hermione elbowed him.

"Shout louder why don't you?" Harry snapped under his breath.

"Sorry." Ron shook his head as if in denial. "Has your mom lost her mind though?"

"I think so."

Hermione rolled her eys. "There is nothing wrong with Harry's mom wanting him to do better in potions. I mean think about it; Harry is more than able to brew a decent potion. He could get an E in potions easily."

Ron snorted. "No offense Hermione, but Harry could get an O if he wanted too. His mother has been teaching him potions since he was three. Maybe younger."

"I'm not that good." Harry said.

"But you are more than capable of getting E or more." Hermione insisted.

"Yeah, I guess." Harry sighed. "But Snape." Harry suddenly lost his appetite.

Hermione shook her head. "If your that depressed about it, why don't you have Professor Lockhart tutor you? I'm sure your mother wouldn't mind."

"NO! Please oh please Hermione, don't tell me you actually believe that shite he sells?" Harry begged.

Hermione glared. "He is a great wizard. Look at all the amazing things he's done. I bet you haven't even read his books." Hermione accused.

Harry smirked and said easily. "Nope. I didn't even buy them. Waste of money my mum say's and I agree with her. Lockhart is a liar and a cheat. Nothing more. Unless you want to include scum."

Ron snorted, spilling his juice.

"Your wrong." Hermione said sternly; she was blushing something awfull now.

"I'm not going to argue with you Hermione. Thats just what I think, deal with it."

 ***

For the rest of the day Hermione acted as if she had a rock in her shoe. She honestly believed that Ron and Harry were wrong. Well they'd find out soon wouldn't they? Right after breakfast they had DADA.

"Let me introduce you to your new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher; me. Gilderoy Lockhart. Order of Merlin, Third Class. And five times winner if Witch Weekly's most charming smile." Lockhart smiled brightly at the students.

Harry wanted to puke. Preferably on Lockhart.

"But enough about that, I didn't get rid of the Bandon Banshee by smiling at her,"

"I bet he didn't do it at all." Harry mouthed to Ron.

Ron snorted.

Seamus snickered from behind.

"I think a pop quiz is in order. Lets see how much you all remember from my books."

Harry leaned back in his seat and waited for the class to finish.

"Mr. Potter, have you finnished already?"

"No sir. I'm not doing it. I did not read or buy any of your books. Therefore I can't take the quiz. Sorry." Harry hoped he had at least sounded somewhat respectful.

"Didn't buy my books?" Lockhart looked shocked. As if the thought of someone not buying his books was unimaginable.

"Yes sir."

"Well, I'm sure your friends will lend you theirs after class."

Harry nodded though he had no intention of ever reading those books.

As the class went on things just went from bad to worse...to worse.

After the 'pop quiz' Lockhart made them each read a chapter aloud from his book Holidays with Hags. And when they came to a quote from him, he made them do voices, 'to make them feel like they were really there' he'd said. But then, the utter idiot, let loose at least 50 Cornish pixies. And then he ditched leaving Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville to catch them and put them back in their cage.

"I hate him." Harry said sternly as they headed for Snapes classroom. They were late for Potions.

"He just wanted to give us some hands on experience." Hermione insisted.

"Hands on!" Ron shouted. "Hermione the idiot didn't know what the hell he was doing!"

"He..." Hermione snaped.

"Shouting in the halls are we?" a cold voice said from the potions classroom door way.

Snape eyed the four students with a sneer on his face. "Ten points from Gryffindor."

Ron said angrily, "It was Lockhart's fault..."

"Five more points for arguing with a teacher. Now get inside before I decide to take more points as well as asign detentions." Snape stepped aside so they could enter.

***

After a usual day of Potions class; Snape sneering, taking points, giving detentions Harry sighed in relief when the bell rang.

"Potter. Don't forgett you have Remedial Potions. 8:00 sharp, or points won't be the only thing you'll have to worry about." Snape sneered.

Harry glared and said, in what he hoped was a calm voice. "Yes sir."

Snape nodded and ignored the Slytherin's laughter. Tonight would be interesting.
