Lovely, lovely, lovely! Poor Harry, I thought he was done for when Hermione started talkign about the polyjuice! And then he got spanked! Ah! I wonder if Neville is feeling bad now or if he's insightful and he'll get what Harry was trying to prove. i'm glad that Harry had a birthday and that it was a normal birthday and not spectacular. I loved how SNape gave him a pocket watch at the end. Lovely ending. Thanks so much for posting!

Good chapter. I loved Snape's speech, Harry's tears, and the watch. Too bad Harry got a spanking on his birthday, but at least Snape's heart was in the right place.

Brilliant! I just found this story recced over at fiction alley park, and I'm pleased that I went and had a look. This story is very in character. It is a refreshing change where Severus doesn't suddenly 'realise the error of his ways' or 'the light that was missing from his life' or some such other twist. A Time and Place to Grow is beautifully written keeping everyone in character. It is utterly perfect. *hugs*

Oh boy... Harry's birthday won't be too wild! YOur Snape such a mix Severus and Snape in my behaving scale for Snape. Snape means evil git and Severus is understanding professor/guardian. You have middle of these both conclusion. I have one question for you... in your fic Harry is not used for corporal punishments and as normal kid... do you think Dursleys never gave corporal punishments for Harry? He still don't want to get back there in your fic so he certainly didn't enjoy his time there... I'd just imagine Harry would be used for corporal punishments at Dursley household. However, please update soon!

While I normally enjoy stories that realistically put Harry and Snape in situations where they must cohabit in relative peace, I find myself actually feeling empathic fury for Harry over Snape's treatment of him in this story. There are probably reasons for why Snape does what he does, and its just that I never had to raise a child, but as a fiercely independent person myself, I can only find myself actively hating your version of Snape. With Harry, I've always found him to be an interesting mix of adult and child, where he is starved for attention and rather immature at some things, but already capable of handling many things that a child cannot. In otherwords, he's a teenager. I don't think Harry is really as bad off as you've made him. He may not always make the best decisions and actions, but again, he's a teenager, he's SUPPOSED to get things wrong and figure out for himself how to do things right. That's what growing up is about, not being brought back to a 5 year old that is completely dependent on "Daddy." Although, it is a fanfiction, and your story, but even that, I simply don't think I can read any more about how Harry is demeaned and contolled like he is completely incapable of taking care of himself. For the people out there who learned to do for themselves long before the adults thought we could, this story in nearly insulting.
Author's Response: I'm sorry this fanfiction did not sit well with you. It is my first, and sometimes I fear I take things to extreme. I try to put in a little bit of something for everyone, but it is impossible to please everyone. I will consider your suggestions as I continue to write. I hope you will continue to read and review, but if not, there are plenty other good stories here to suit all tastes. Thanks you for reviewing. Perry
