Author's Response: I don't think that manipulative is the only characteristic that Slytherins have. Harry might turn out to be a little manipulative in the end but right now he's frightened and disoriented because everything is new to him and he doesn't know how to react.
Keep writing this is really good!! It would be interesting to see how this plays out. Update when you can I know RL can get to a writer. *Real Life Author's Response: RL does interfere with the writing, but I am updating as often as I can. Thanks for understanding.

Author's Response: Thanks. I'm trying to balance Severus and keep any one emotion from overwhelming him - because one of my favorite things about him is the fact that he's a very deep multifaceted character - but sometimes he is quite stubborn. I think he will eventually give in to the compassion that he feels, but it may be quite awhile.
There are lots of abused-Harry-mentored-by-Snape stories, but yours is far more compelling than almost all of them. I think having Snape so bitter and tending toward malicious, without actually acting on the maliciousness is an excellent "take" on the character. It's more like he wishes he could be malicious, but other aspects of his character (honor, convictions, some sort of hidden empathy?) keep him from following his temptations. So Snape is very IC. Harry, of course, is not so IC, or he wouldn't be in Slytherin, right? This is a bit AU in that regard, but that's okay. You write very well. Your angsty parts are really quite moving and you make me feel along with Snape, which is very satisfying. Hope you keep this story up. I notice most of your stories are rather short. This one would make a great longer story if you wanted to keep going. Author's Response: I am trying to keep Harry IC, but he doesn't want to behave for me. My poor Harry has been abused and he's afraid and skittish. Initially I thought that there wouldn't be many changes - just a "what if Hagrid didn't mention that Voldemort and all Dark wizards were in Slytherin? what if Harry didn't beg to be anywhere else?" but it's rather changed. I can't let Harry act as he does in canon because the Dursleys have been rather more abusive. Thanks for taking the time to review!
