This is one of my favorite stories of all time. When you went so long without updating I had assumed I would never again have the pleasure of reading a new chapter. Now I have had two in one week. Thank you. I love your development of Harry. The plot is very interesting and original. How old is Harry in your story?

    Author's Response:

Harry is about to turn 16 in a couple of days. I don't have my timeline in front of me, but I think Chapter 17 ends on the morning of July 28.

Thanks for reading and reviewing! There should be another chapter soon, although I'm going to update Three Times Trouble first.

Awww, I just want to cuddle Harry! Sooo, is anyone going to catch on Harry is quickly heading into or is already at a very depressive state?

Author's Response: He's been depressed since Sirius' death, but he doesn't have anyone him who spends enough time with him to realize that he hides his emotions around people he doesn't trust. Lupin is worried about the panic attacks, but as Snape pointed out, Harry's only had two so far.

Honestly, I think if I was Harry, I would scram from the castle as soon as possible, and find a way to become a shadow and carve out a new life. Poor kid really has nothing going for him, no friends he can really do anything with or count on, no adults that actually like him. I don't know about Lupin, but Harry thinks Lupin doesn't even want to be one of the adults that he trusts. Pretty harsh. I keep hoping somewhere in here there will be a crack of sunlight and maybe Snape will have some sort of niceness when he deals with Harry or that Lupin will stop being quite so aloof. Harry is extremely tolerant of all that's happening around him. I wouldn't be, that's for sure.

Enjoying the story as I always have but oh, the wishing and hoping...

    Author's Response:

Well, it is from Harry's point of view, so what he assumes are other people's feelings and motivations, might not actually be true. Harry assumes Lupin doesn't want to be close to him because Lupin blames him for Sirius' death, but just because Harry is satisfied with that explanation, doesn't mean that's all there is to it.

Harry is about to have his birthday, which is a major plot point in the Severitus challenge. Although that doesn't necessarily mean that Harry's life will get easier, it does mean that the story will start going in a new direction.

I think some of Harry's tolerance is just stubborness and self-blame, not true tolerance. Depending on what's happening, he either believes he deserves it or doesn't want to show that it bothers him. People around him find it easier to convince themselves that's he's doing fine when he isn't.

Oh my. Didn't realise that you'd updated yet again, until I got the alert at Fanfition.net. I just assumed that it was the same chapter as before.

    Great job by the way.

I left you a very long review at FFnet, because I didn't know that you'd updated here too.

Author's Response: Thanks! I haven't checked reviews at FF.net yet, but I'm about to. :-)

Oh my goodness! I'm so happy to see that you are still working on this story. It was the reason I started reading at P&S, so basically I've been living in eternal hope of seeing more. I enjoy the intensity of emotions you get with Harry and that you maintain his complexity as a character. He is both misunderstood by others and driven by selfishness, and occasional petty revenge and spite... like a real person.

I'm also enjoying the idea of the counter political backlash against both sides.

Basically, YAY, there's more and YAY there's Draco. It's the middle of the night here so not my most comprehensive feedback...

Author's Response: Thanks you, that's huge praise! Chapter 17 should be up today, and it continues everything from Chapter 16, so there will be more Draco.

I hope you write more soon!

Author's Response: Look for Chapter 17 tomorrow! I just got it back from my beta and there isn't too much to fix.

Just read your story through to this point. Your character development is great, and you build a very strong sense of anticipation. My one suggestion is that I'd be more sympathetic to your version of Harry if he had a few more positive attributes. It's hard to feel sympathy for his position if he is being a jerk. Great story though- I'm really enjoying it!

    Author's Response:

Canon Harry can be an arrogant, disobedient, rude, lazy, bad tempered, stubborn, uncooperative little rule-breaker. He leaps to conclusions and he is dismissive of adults who have greater knowledge and experience because he thinks he knows better. Until the bitter end, he continues to divide people into good and evil based on whether they're NICE to him. He shows almost no ability to change his mind about people he doesn't like. I'm not sure what positive qualities he would display under the circumstances (high stress, being kept from doing what he wants, etc.).

It would be nice for Harry to be a more sympathetic character, because people might start to treat him better. Although that sounds a bit like victim-blaming, because they should be treating him better no matter how he's acting. It might also be a tall order because some of his good qualities are precisely the things Snape doesn't like about him and/or can get him and his friends killed right now.

    Thanks for reviewing!

I wonder what Snape and Lupin would think if Harry said that he was thinking of leaving the Wizardry World? Does Harry get to keep the Potter money (if there was any besides his trust vault) since he isn't a Potter? What if in the end he rejects Snape as his father?

    Author's Response:

All really great questions, which, of course, haven't come up in the story yet, so there's no way to know.

I've never been able to completely buy the idea of Harry or most other characters leaving the wizarding world. In fact, I think Harry would be one of the least likely to do so, even among characters who were born into the wizarding world and have no Muggle connections at all. He committed himself heart and soul the day he learned there was a magical world and that he was a part of it. I don't think he could break away, even if given a lot of reasons to. He might want to, or even try to, but he wouldn't be able to do it, in the end. That's not to say I don't enjoy fics where Harry is betrayed or sent to Azkaban and subsequently tells the whole wizarding world to go to hell.

In this story, presumably Snape, as Harry Potter's guardian, has access to the Potter vault, since Snape tells Harry that he now "owns" it, which is a pretty strong statement. We don't have a lot of detail about how the system works, so we have to trust Snape's statement for now, since Harry is such a limiting point of view. The banking system might be no more fair and balanced than other magical systems (like the justice system, which sends someone to Azkaban for life with no trial). This is the same system that allows an escaped convict to access his vault; the goblins apparently do not care what issues the Ministry has with the vault owners. It's possible that Harry's actions against the Ministry (or even leaving the wizarding world, changing his identity, etc.) would have no effect on his ability to continue to use Gringotts as usual, because to the goblins those changes would be irrelevant. Also, presumably not being James' son would not change Harry's right to access the Potter vault, since presumably (in absense of evidence to the contrary) there are no other Potters and James and Lily shared equal rights to the vault because they were married. Harry, even if he turned out not to be a Potter, should still have full rights to the fortune because after James' death it would have passed to Lily in full, and then after her death to her child regardless of the child's relation to James. But for now we really don't know, since it hasn't come up in the story.

I think it would be a lousy Severitus response if Harry rejected Snape at the end. In the middle, sure, but to end the story on that? It wouldn't really be worth bothering to write, if it were going to end like that. Besides, readers would riot.

Lupin's acting like a right berk. Although this mystery thing is really quite interesting. I do hope The situation becomes better!
