I liked that, but I really want to know if Dumbledore really understands that he was pushing too hard.

I don't know why I was avoiding this fic. Something about the blurb made me think it wouldn't be my cuppa. Oh, yea! It was the mention of rape. Anyway, I was so bored (and running out of fic's to read) that I started it this afternoon. Six hours later and I'm hooked. What a nice blend of angst/humaness. Snape is slowly becoming human and Harry is slowly returning to humanity. I thought Snape's thoughts about the headmaster were right on target for the universe you created. When Harry sent Dumbledore all his memories so he truly could feel what Harry had been through, I was cheering my head off! I bet now they won't let Harry out into the school, but maybe bring bits into him. He really is growing up---and not the way the Headmaster wanted. I find it funny that he wanted to avoid the mistakes he made with Riddle by making the exact same mistakes! Isn't it funny, but Riddle's mother was probably a fetal alcahol-sydrome baby who was abused in her life and definitely suffering depression and deprivation while he was being gestated. His father was a spoiled rich kid. Harry's mother was relatively normal, but his father was a spoiled rich wizard. That and the fact that Riddle went right into an orphanage with possible serious neglect right after birth while Harry at that same age had 18 months with a loving family and they really were very much alike. Is it any wonder that Harry's power is manifesting in the stronger-dark areas!!! I hope you have lots of ideas to go with this fic. How can you keep up writing different stories???

Good chapter. I particularly liked Snape starting to wonder if he's competing with the dead Sirius for Harry's affections, and wanting to be clear to Harry that he is *not* trying to "replace" Sirius. And then Harry commenting that Sirius was perhaps not as committed to Harry's wellbeing as Snape is. Very insightful exchange, as regards what it brings out about both of the characters.

That was an awesome chapter. It's nice to see Harry and Severus settling into the day to day even with what had happened to Dumbledore. I love Severus' sense of humor, don't know if I've mentioned that before, and also love the dueling idea, even if they used it to work off their frustrations, which I know their not. Curious to see what happens with the start of school. Keep up the great work, looking forward to the next chapter. LES

Aw, such a lovely chapter. I'm so glad to see Severus and Harry bonding, or at least being able to show that they are more relaxed and able to show their feelings, since they've been bonding for quite a time now. It's like now there's some payoff for all the angst and struggles.

Obviously, Severus has been gradually coming to care for Harry all along, but now he's acknowledging it to himself--admitting he felt pain in his heart at watching Harry suffer through the past few days, getting him the book, and reassuring him that Sirius did indeed care for him.

I don't believe Sirius could have been the guardian Harry needs--he was too damaged by his own arrested development. But Sirius did give Harry something he'd never had before and desperately needed--a parent figure who loved him and wanted to be with him. I was glad to see Severus understand that Harry still needed to know that, and that he could put aside his own animosity for Sirius to reassure Harry.

Btw, I love the term 'dogfather.' That's so perfectly 'Snape-ish.' And the final bit, about Severus not being in competition with Sirius, not even a little bit, and about Harry's smile lightening Severus' mood, well, that was just wonderful!

Awesomesauce. I wonder where I can get my hands on some of that :D

I love how intelligent you write Snape as. Not many people can pull it off, but you do it very well. I'm pleased he replaced the book Sirius gave Harry -- that shows quite a bit of growth and maturity on his part. And it really sweet on top of that *imagines Snape wouldn't take too kindly to that phrasing*. Harry's journal entry made me smile too -- he's finally getting what he needs, and he's so happy over it, even if he's pretending to be all nonchalant at the same time, lol.

    Great job!

A very good day between Snape and Harry. My favorite parts are always the journal entries. I love them!

Wonderful chapter. Severus' understanding of Harry, and his increasing willingness to meet him more than half way is such a pleasure to see. After so many painful weeks, these positive steps are all the sweeter, for them and the readers!
You just keep getting better and better in each of your stories!
