Reviews For The Poor of God
Nice work!
I love your Snape. So often, authors tend to one extreme or the other, incredibly spiteful and cruel or magically reformed and affectionate. Your Snape is closer to the latter end of the spectrum, but he still has that intrinsic Snape-ishness that makes him...so very real and believable. Harry is perfectly, frustratingly heartbreaking. I tend not to enjoy Dursley abuse fics, because I think that emotional neglect is quite bad enough and those fics seem to suggest, by heaping physical abuse on top of that, that it isn't abuse unless there are bruises. I don't get that feeling from you; that one part when Harry thinks about the time when he was four years old and Petunia didn't hold him any more...that made my heart clench something painful. You just GET it, get both of them, and...it makes me want to just keep gushing on! :) Hah, getting myself under control. Love Luna; too few writers pay her the attention she deserves. I love the letters. I love that you neither villify nor glorify the Slytherins (How sad is it that I've come to expect either? So few fics take the position that all houses are equally wonderful and flawed. It's such a relief to come upon a middle ground; water in the desert, indeed! You had me both furious with and pitying those four Slytherin fools.) I hope you manage to catch Free-Time, that elusive beast, soon. I look forward to reading the next chapter, whenever it will come. :)
There are too many favorite moments to mention, but I'll list a few. :) I loved the whole idea of the letters back and forth for starters, and the use of Luna. She's written really well. :) Some of my favorite moments are the scene where Vernon goes after Harry at Hogwarts and that aftermath, drunk Snape's information session, and the use of the soldier toy portkey. My only suggestion and wish would be for a tiny bit more of Ron and Hermione, since they are so close to Harry... plus it might be kind of funny to have a group of teenagers hanging out in Snape's quarters to visit Harry. :) Anyway, I'm looking forward to more. :)
I look forward to the next update, whenever that may be.
I only regret not discovering your work earlier (and, simultaneously, that I hadn't come across it until after the conclusion as you most definitely have a talent for writing good cliffhangers!). I believe you said you're working on an original work? I hope all is going smoothly. You have a real gift and this series has proven to be the absolutely perfect way to while away a rainy day (though I should note that technically, I didn't actually notice the weather until after I'd come to the end). With much gratitude for your efforts and patience...
So allow me to expound upon what I've said in reviews past - I LOVE your story! You have great characterizations and creative writing and interesting situations. Thank you so much for taking the time to write it for us, when you're not getting anything but our reviews in return. And don't let mean people get you down!!!
Why would Potions and Snitches feature this story for so long since you abandoned it. I hate authors like you, who have the potential for a great story, and then you just crap on your loyal readers by never finishing it. Author's Response: All right, that's it. When I post the next chapter, YOU'RE not allowed to read it. I mean it. No peeking. |
