Okay, so I get out of bed and get my cup of coffee and practically sprint to my computer (making sure that the kids are "entertaining" themselves for a bit in the event I get what I'm hoping for and I don't want to be interrupted for a few minutes) and thinking, "please, please, please, let me find an update" and practically shout a loud "Yippee!!" when I get one. My day is starting well. ;-)

I was so glad that Harry regretted his words to Snape pretty much immediately upon saying them. But I kind of figured he might when he reviewed in his head all the nice things Snape had done for him in the last several days. I just wanted to give Harry a big hug for resolving to give Snape that apology and extending (maybe a tiny) olive branch.

Now, I wasn't expecting Snape to have his own olive branch to offer. The talk was awesome...and a drunk Snape is SUCH a riot. When Snape started the talk with mentioning the date that Harry's parents were murdered, I think I had the air sucked out me almost as much as Harry. Brilliant writing. (I also loved how safe Harry was feeling sitting there with Snape and having the shadows spook him with thoughts of Vernon charging out of nowhere and knowing nothing would happen to him because Snape would protect him. How few times in Harry's life has be probably ever felt protected. That was a big fuzzy "Awwww..." moment for me.

Snape giving Harry information about his parents when no one else really has was so touching. I had chills reading that part.

I loved Harry asking how Snape pulls off his spy act. I would have loved to ask him that too! And Snape gave a great answer..."I do not aspire to unity." Thanks for asking, Harry. ;-)

I loved, loved, loved Harry's apology. I wanted to give him another big hug for making it, and Snape not quite sure what to make of it and just sending him to bed (after making the smoking comment, which cracked me up).

And the hangover scene...what can I say. How do you pull this stuff out the air? As a non-writer (clearly from my poorly worded reviews) it was so much fun to read.

You can tell Harry must be feeling sorry for Snape already because of the upcoming "scene" with Dumbledore as they head to breakfast. I can't imagine how Harry is going to feel when he witnesses it. He's going to know it's staged, but his heart is so big it's going to have to hurt a bit to watch one would think.

And Snape fixing his shoes. That was a boo-hoo moment because Harry was so happy about it. Such little kindnesses are so appreciated by him because he's had so little shown to him. Thankfully I keep tissues on hand next to the computer when you throw these moments at me so unexpectedly. And you throw those at us A LOT. Keep them coming.

And now after all that has been said, I'm going back to sulking because I have to WAIT again for another chapter. Harrumph...

Seriously, Harry is so cute. I like how in some ways he's a very mature person, and in others he's like a kid. I'm glad to see that Snape didn't withdraw from him after the end of the last chapter; and I hope Harry will learn that Snape's kind actions are backed up by the fact that Snape is actually coming to like Harry as a person.

The idea of Snape smoking and listening to the Rolling Stones is a riot, by the way! :D And I loved listening to him chatty and drunk. He needs Harry (and Luna) in his life definitely. People capable of unconditional warm regard.

Also, interesting comment about the lack of unity in his soul. It gets to the heart of his day-to-day behavior, at times very courageous and dignified and at other times very bitter and immature. A psychoanalyst would have a field day with Snape.

I like how his relationship with Harry is developing. I hope this little jaunt to the Great Hall doesn't wind up in disaster somehow (I really hope that Dumbledore has locked Vernon up somewhere).

    Author's Response:

I am hugely captivated by the idea of teeange Muggle Snape, myself. :-)

    ---

Branwyn: Hear that? Even my readers think you need a shrink.

Snape: Your readers need a dose of Shrinking Solution, the better to be crushed beneath the heel of my boots.

Again, amazing. I love the description of how Snape feels the next morning; it was hilarious and understandable. "A few minutes later, most of the dancing hippogriffs and at least one of the trolls hammering against the inside of his skull go quietly back to their usual business and leave him in peace." That line in particular made me laugh.

My other favourite line this chapter is from Harry's thoughts: "Harry knows, believes, deep in his heart, that even if Vernon Dursley were to charge through the door of the parlor at this very moment, Snape would drop him before he had the chance to so much as shout at him." YES! I squealed happily at that; I love that Harry feels safer in Snape's presence and trusts that Snape will protect him.

And Snape smiling at the end of the chapter was perfect as well. He *so* cares about Harry.

Author's Response: Literary hangovers are NEVER NOT FUNNY. And yes, maybe one day Snape will even work up to smiling AT Harry, and not just at the back of his head.

    Harry!

    *bleepittybleepittybleepdadeep*

you moron! you dunderhead! you tactless little sniveling pea! (wow, i spelled sniveling wrong the first time i wrote it. *wails* my intelligence is fading...)

so sevvy goes and gives you a warm and cuddly hug and you start ranting about how he doesn't care about you?! you're like...you know, those little insensitive boys that the yahoo homepage likes to put in little categories for romance-craving-mad-girls!

i feel like a bit of a moron myself, actually, seeing as i'm breathing heavily and ranting wildly to a fictional character.

ookay, time to change the topic.

    favorite quotes! woot!

"What I want, Potter," Snape says, leaping to his feet, only just managing to control the volume of his voice, "is to know what sort of twisted emotional alchemy has so warped your brain that you dare not lift your hand against those who would harm you!"

hehe, the first reason is just because i like the picture snape's greasy hair doing this tornado jig thing as he does some superman impression of jumping to his feet. it's very cool.

the second reason is because i like imagining him saying "twisted emotional alchemy." the attack of the multi-syllable words, you know...

    oy, my other favorite quote...

He has not provoked the boy in this manner because he has any hope of forcing him to elocute that formless dread in his heart.

you can probably guess why...see, there's the word ELOCUTE in there! it, along with the seven pages of words i have listed out in a word document for the last year (aptly titled, "cool words," to show my utter finesse in the art of the english language), OWNS!

anywho. yeah, i got this little thrill of mindless joy reading that.

anyway, i suppose this is the moment you're supposed to yell at me because i'm reviewing all late and stuff, and i like, just professed by oath of fangirl-hood to you last time....so yeah. my apologies.

i did read this you know, but it was one of those read-in-the-middle-of-the-night-and-leak-tears-of-sleeplessness-out-into-the-carpet sort of things.

and i probably would have sounded delirious and junk if i had tried to compose out some review, so i decided to procrastinate (my finest talent) and review later.

    yeah.

and then you had to go and churn out another chapter, and i got this really mixed feeling of excitement and guilt, so here i am-ses. reviewing.

    finally.

    awesome chappie.

Author's Response: I confess that when I said "elocute" I did think about you. Take it as a shout-out if you like. :) Even though my spellchecker didn't recognize it, they use it on Law and Order all the time, so to hell with WordPerfect.

I loved Snape's memories. But couldn't Harry order new stuff by owl post?

Author's Response: I don't think that idea would occur to Harry unless someone pointed it out. :)

I have to tell you that I've greatly enjoyed both of your stories in this series. You have a knack for making the incredibly convoluted relationship of Snape and Harry into something that makes a great deal of sense and gives them both a good background for which to frame their choices. I absolutely LOVE that you used Luna in that capacity, I always thought she got a raw deal from JK. For the love of all that is holy, write faster. I sat down and read both of your stories in under an hour or so, and I'm agitated that I don't know how it ends. Closure would be great :)

Author's Response: Considering that I've written 45,000 words and 100 pages in nine days I honestly don't know how I COULD write faster. I can only promise to writer diligently. And don't worry, more Luna is forthcoming.

HARRY - I FORGIVE YOU. ANY AND ALL POINTS LOST ARE NOW RECLAIMED BECAUSE YOUR ARE TEH AWESOMENESS.

"A few minutes later, most of the dancing hippogriffs and at least one of the trolls hammering against the inside of his skull go quietly back to their usual business and leave him in peace."

LOL I completely misread that as dancing hippopotamuses and was like WHOA, Fantasia anyone? But seriously, I was expecting Snape to be all like, Dear Diary, mood: apathetic - the remains of my life is swirling into a dark abyss ... but this chapter was so full of awesomely funny lines XD

So I'm going to do another list for you, because I love this chapter XD

    1. YAY for Harry's POV but DOUBLE-YAY for Snapey! Firstly because hearing first-hand from Snape that he has a massive hangover instills much pity from me, and also because ... well, I just love seeing Snape out of his comfort zone XD

    2. Everyone's points has gone up because Harry and Snape have reconciled (10 points), Snape admits he smoked and listened to the Rolling Stones (50 points for those who can relate, 40 for everyone else), and because Snapey has smiled/laughed TWICE in a 24-hour period (so everyone just take like a million bajillion points for that one XD)

    3. OMG SNAPE/HARRY LUFF!

"Snape looks up then, and Harry finds that he is smiling—not even smirking, it's too gentle for that."

Snapey - you should get drunk more often XD Also, HARRY - you are awesome because you are emotionally un-retarded enough to go and apologise to Snape. And Snape, you are awesome too because you are drunk XD (I just love that he's drunk! - in case you couldn't tell XD)

    4. This. Chapter. Is. Freakin'. Hilarious. If I was going to list all the ways, then I'd have to copy and paste the entire chapter, so I won't, but I shall grace you (*cough*boreyou*cough* LOL) with my favourite funny line:

"Because I know you haven't lived in the Muggle world for a long time, but these days everyone knows it's really bad for you," Harry continues earnestly."

LOLOLOLOLOLOL. HARRY YOU ARE AN IDIOT (but a very lovable idiot nonetheless XD) Only you could completely ignore the subject that's at hand and nitpit on some annoyingly stupid detail like smoking XD

    5. You always save the most perfect bits until last, don't you? Because THIS is the bit that I have been waiting for, for (roughly) eight chapters and 6692 words:

"Snape waits until the boy is several paces ahead of him before he allows himself to return it."

OH MAH GAWD. Step aside please while I have a heart-attack on the floor. I mean it. That like whole last bit nearly put me into cardiac arrest, it was so perfect.

    Yeah XD

So I swear I'll never make you sit through a review so full of upper-case letters ever again XD And just so you know, I did draw a picture (except it's really bad, lol) but teh scanner is dead X(

Snapey: (lol I had to fight sooo hard not to put that in upper-case XD) You are very cute. And quaint. And you are the reason I now sleep with a dictionary beside my bed XD I'm totally like Harry - Snapey inspired me to use long words, but then I just sounded stupid XD Maybe I should start wearing black exclusively and growing my hair long and stop washing it ... XD

    Branwyn: You are awesome XD

    Author's Response:

*dies* okay suddenly I want to write Snape's diary. That is so perfect. Actually, maybe you should write Snape's diary. But yeah, on paper? Hangovers are never not funny. I love inflicting them on characters. And I'm glad you found this chapter funny, because I really wanted people to laugh and have a little breather from all THE DREAD ANGST, even while emotional territory was being covered.

DAMN YOUR SCANNER. You should come over to my house and I'll scan it for you. I'm working on making a page on my site just for these stories and it's going to have stuff like the soundtrack I'm compiling for it. Hopefully there will also be art to put up some day. I can only draw faces myself and everyone already knows what Snape and Harry look like.

    ---

Snape: I've driven your reviewers to seek the refuge of dictionaries. Perhaps all hope is not yet lost for the world.

Branwyn: I'm just surprised she's reading it, rather than, say, hitting herself over the head with it to drown out the noise of your insufferable pretention.

Snape: You ought to take a leaf from her book, you horrible ignorant harpy.

Branwyn: Slamming my head against the surface of my desk has always worked well enough for me, thanks.

Oh my goodness. How on God's green earth do you manage to update so frequently and with such amazing material? This chapter had me sitting on the edge of my seat, twisting my hair and biting my fingernails all at the same time. As I'm reading, I always think of wonderful things to say, but, by the time I'm done with the chapter, I'm pretty much speechless.

This whole chapter had me envisioning both Harry and Snape on their own personal tightwires, trying to maintain some semblance of balance. One wrong step from either of them could cause so much damage. Harry, especially, seems to be so off-footed around Snape. Even though he has learned a lot more about Snape, there is still so much more to know. Snape has had the advantage of seeing into Harry's mind and, maybe, truly understanding how his mind actually works. He probably understands more about Harry than Harry does himself.

Harry's emotions are almost heartbreaking at times. The poor boy has absolutley no self-worth after a life with the Dursleys. I'm actually surprised that he has never become more self-destructive. I loved the fact that even after all of this he still has that "saving people thing". I laughed out loud when he asked Snape if he still smoked. Very funny.

I had a few more thoughts earlier, but now I can't remember them. Great chapter and thanks so much for the quick update. One more thing...what the heck does hagiographical actually mean?

    Author's Response:

Hmm. I don't feel like it's Snape and Harry on tightropes so much as it's ME, but I get what you're saying. :) They're definitely both off balance.

Hagiography: I'm not consulting a dictionary, but, hagio=widsom (greek) graph=writing (also greek). Hagiography is writing about the lives of saints. So basically Snape is saying that whenever Dumbledore talks about Harry, he lapses into panegyrics. Not really fair, but that is how Snape would see it. :)

Magic. I love the touch about the trainers. I can't wait to see what Dumbldedore says to Snape.
Thank you once again for another brilliant chapter.
I know you are busy but will be get any more 'responses' from the Prof himself they were gems. Please tell him from me that we all suspected there was a soft centre in there somewhere even back in Harry's first potion lesson, well maybe not that early, but certainly by his second year. It's just taken you (and Harry of course) to draw it all so we can see it fully and appreciate him as he deserves. It's like watching someone you care about exceed your expectations.

    Thank you so much.

    Author's Response:

    Branwyn: Stop. right. there.

Snape: *looking back over his shoulder* What? I'm answering the review, just as she asked.

Branwyn: Yeah,  I know exactly what kind of reply...*peers at screen over his shoulder*  Ok, no. That's it. No more replies out of you. I'll tell her you got that case of dragon pox you were angling for.

Snape: What is wrong with my reply?

Branwyn: I like her. She reviews practically every chapter. I don't want you to run her off.

Snape: I beg your pardon. Of the two of us in this room just now, which of us is seated before the keyboard? I am uninterested in your criticism. *turns in chair as Branwyn advances threateningly* And before you get any clever ideas, I ought to tell you that while I do not hit women, even horrible harridans like yourself, I am not above Stunning them. There is a couch just there for you to fall onto. I would not feel the slightest guilt.

Branwyn: Oh, good point, Professor. You just let me know when you're done with that review, then, so I can back to work on that chapter where you cry and call Harry your "brave little boy".

    Snape: *stares*

    Branwyn: *stares back*

    Snape: (hoarsely) You wouldn't dare

Branwyn: It's the Internet. You'd be amazed what I'd dare.

    ---

Dear Trekker: Sorry,  but the Professor's come by a case of dragon pox. Bad luck, that. Maybe next chapter!

    AWWWWWWWWWWW

good boy, Harry! and good boy, Severus!

I hope the Headmaster will take the time to reassure Snape after their...altercation because Snape's confidence isn't nearly as high as he likes people to believe and he could do with knowing the Headmaster still thinks of him kindly.
