Ewwww, mouth soaping. I 'member getting that a few times as a kid. No fun at all. Glad Snape followed through, and that he's still going to teach the nipper Defense. Harry certainly needs it.

Author's Response: I'm so thrilled that you're following my story.  Considering that I'm obsessed with your fics, it's a great compliment to know that you're reading ;)  So thank you!  I actually never experienced 'the soap' as a child, so I kind of had to use my imagination on that part...lol.  And yes, he does need Defense lessons.  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!  It means a lot.

    Loved it!

The fight between Draco and Harry was very well done.

And, of course, loved Harry's soaping! It was rather hilarious. Awesome chapter.

    Author's Response:

I'm so happy you enjoyed it!  I wasn't sure how well I write Draco, but I'm glad that you liked the fight scene ;)  I was going for a bit of humor during the soap-in-mouth scene, so high five for picking up on it.  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!  Have a wonderful holiday :)

I really like this chapter. I think this story gets better and better as you go. I look forward to reading more and I can't wait to see what Snape decides to do with the huge snake that keeps slithering around.

    You Rock!

    Author's Response:

Thank you!  You know, I feel like it's easier to write each chapter as I go, which is a good thing, I suppose.  I have plans for the basilisk, but sometimes when I write, I tweak a bit here and there from the original plan.  So we'll see... lol.

I really appreciate your constant support of my story.  Your reviews always cheer me up :)

    Thanks again!

I really liked this chapter. I think Snape was well down. He is mellowing appropriately as time goes on with Harry, I think.

I liked the concern he shows and that he he let Harry take the book to read.

I can't think of anything you're missing. Just keep it coming!

    Author's Response:

Thank you for reading and reviewing!  Yeah...gradually mellowing is a good description of Snape.  And I'm so glad you put it that way, because I really am not intending for this story to be a ten on the mush-factor... lol.

P.S. I am planning on reading your story from start to finish as soon as I get a few hours to lock myself away and read ;)

Another great chapter. I still think you have Snape nailed. It would be awesome if Snape could teach him some DADA, but discussions are good too. I wonder if Harry will get more assertive to Lockhart, if he knows more about the subject then the 'professor'. XD

So, when's the next attack coming up? I can't wait for the next time Harry hears the Basilisk. ^^

    Author's Response:

As with Snape, he'd be hesitant to teach a 12 yr old any kind of defense since he takes it so seriously; however, we'll just have to see... ;)

Thanks for reviewing!  I'm relieved that Snape is still in character.  It gets more challenging as the chapters progress, but so far it seems to be working :)

Lovely chapter. Probably the best detention Harry has ever served. I love your Snape. He's just the perfect combination of total jerk and human being and the way he is, dare I say, warming up to Harry is wonderful.

My favorite part this chapter has to be when Snape warned Harry not to disappoint him. I had to pause and 'aww' a bit. It was thoroughly sweet. Harry's reaction of mild shock was perfect as well.

Thank you for the update. I'm looking forward to the next one.

    Author's Response:

Thank you for such a great review!  I'm really trying to take the "warming up to Harry" thing slowly, as it would be quite out of character not to.

A lot of people seemed to really like Snape telling Harry not to disappoint him...which is awesome, because I really wanted it to be significant.  I'm really happy you liked this chapter :)

I think your Snape is absolutely perfect. Definitely Snapey enough. I almost cried when he said "Do not disappoint me, Potter." I think Harry wants to make Snape, more than anyone else, proud of him. Hopefully Snape realizes this and remembers it when the boy messes up, because we all know that's inevitable.

Thanks so much for the wonderful chapter. It made my day. Especially when I read that you will update again before the holidays. Yay!!! Take care....

    Author's Response:

I'm really happy to hear that you liked that line.  I wanted it to make an impact on Harry in a non-fluffy way, and I think it worked.  If Harry messes up in future chapters, it will most likely be for the sake of someone else.  He doesn't really get into trouble for his own gain, which is why he had a hard time dealing with what he'd done in the first chapter--at least in my eyes, I guess.  lol.

Thanks very much for such a kind and encouraging review :)

    Another great chapter, Jade.
I love how you convey the body language. It was so vivid when Harry was contorting to scratch his forehead with his upper arm.
Snape's interrogation seemed spot on. Never let your victim know exactly what it is you are trying to find out - although, as grown-ups, we readers know what Snape's getting at.
Loved the part with the Defense book at the end. Of course Harry would exclaim over the pictures and diagrams; he's twelve. They would be very exciting to him. Snape is very familar with the minds of twelve year old boys, and so his subsequent warning was appropriate and properly dire. If I know Harry, and 12 year old boys in general, he'll have a hard time remembering his vow to Snape when he reads some of the glorious techniques likely found in that little book. Self-restraint is not Harry's strength. I guess we'll find out!
Thanks for your update. Please, please post more soon. I, for one, could use some pre-holiday stress release. Quinn

    Author's Response:

Hi Quinn!  Thank you so much for taking the time out to review :)  December is insane.

And you don't even know how happy it makes me when you point out the small specifics that stand out to you--like Harry trying to scratch his forehead.  I really try hard to characterize Harry in a way that people can relate to.

When I was writing this chapter, I thought...huh...Harry really hasn't had a decent DADA teacher, so he wouldn't know much about it.  Hermione cast most of the spells, etc. in the first book.

And yes, Harry does lack self-restraint, but if he DOES happen to mess up, it probably won't be on purpose.  He tends to get himself in trouble for other people.

Thanks again for the lovely review!  I'll post as soon as I can.

Snape was lovely in this chapter, seriously, I love your Snape.
    This was my favorite part:

    “Do not disappoint me, Potter.”

Harry could only stare. No one had ever said anything like that to him in his entire life. The boy shook his head, “No, I won’t.” And somehow, Harry knew he meant it.

    Love it! So sweet!

I'll be looking for the next chapter, I was so happy when I saw you had updated.
    Can't wait!
    -Elise

Author's Response: Oh, I'm so glad you liked that line!  I meant for it to carry a lot of weight, and it seems like for you, it did.  So that's awesome :)  Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.
