Reviews For Lily's Charm
Title: Chapter 42: Reciprocity 24 Feb 2008 7:44 pm

Ok, let's see if I can keep with the shorter review...

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, liked this chapter!! It was so awesome in its complete mortification of Harry...good job Sev!

Sev and Lily's wedding was pure bliss...I expect to see some pictures soon! And it was great to see them together again..

The rest of the little meeting in Dumbledore's office was wonderful. It's great to see Harry and Sev bond so much, and to see Sev try to not smile...tee hee!

I really liked Harry's decision to stay in the dungeons for the time being, it just feels better than him moving away into the Tower. I'm glad too, that Sev is completely contented with Harry living with him. I expect more bonding time next chapter!! But I can't help but think that there's a certain anxiety emanating from Sev because of this. Does he think that Harry's never going to be ok if he stays in their quarters forever, but doesn't want to pressure him into anything for fear of a relapse (for lack of a better word) and a repeat incident like with Pinth?

I loved the mixing of emotions from both of them...it certainly made things interesting this chapter!!

"Smirking, Harry asked, “Aren’t they a bit wonky for you though?” And damn it all, Severus almost laughed." I must say, this was brilliant! I soo would love to see Sev almost laugh! (Picture from Lily's photo album, anyone?!)

Now I was mildly irritated at Ron this chapter, Hermione was ok, though. It was just frustrating for him to continue with his..."But Snape!" argument. Seriously, Ron, Harry's been living with Sev for quite a while...why is it suddenly so strange that he live there now? *sigh* I just don't know about that boy sometimes...

One question: Did Sev never return to Godric's Hallow (if that is indeed the same home that Lily and Sev shared) then? And what was Dumbledore doing there this past summer? Hmm...horcrux hunting!? Wait, there weren’t any horcruses there...but perhaps, since you're not particularly following canon...

And I have to tell you again that I loved their little rejonder at the end of Harry's section there...it was just too funny and it shows just how at ease they are in each other's presence. It was wonderful.

I love, too how you put in that bathroom shaving scene with Sev, it demonstrates a sense of normalcy between these guys, and was great!

I'm excited for Harry to be back into Quidditch. But, at the same time, I have this feeling that something is going to go wrong there. Is he just going to play or will he Capitan right away...or is that still really far into the future, since he's got to wait another week at least?

And those Malfoys! I was surprised and excited to see it go down this way. And a little worried for Draco about the consequences of not conducting himself appropriately. *shudders* Hopefully, he'll snap out of his moody mood and finally see the benefit of being civil towards Harry. Really, it wouldn't be that hard, Draco. And it's not like it'd kill you...(well, at least not right away.)

I have to wonder, what was the real purpose for having Draco go to Grimmauld Place? Or was it Dumbledore's plan to have Draco and Harry thrown together and suddenly become the bestest of friends in a few minutes?

I did love Ginny here, though, and feel thoroughly ashamed for both her and Harry for what they were doing on the sofa...embarrassment. It burns. Ouch. But I thought Sev handled himself extremely well, with Harry's over-exuberant emotions running rampant through his head, as did Harry with the increasing level of discomfort with every passing second...I would have been truly mortified if our situations were reversed, never truly remembering The Talk myself.

Again, it was great to visit memory and take a trip down memory lane with Sev... *sigh* Pure bliss.

And YEA for horcruxes! That's what you said it was! You did!! Ok, time to speculate what you're keeping canon and what you're changing...hmm...

Can't wait for another update! Have to re-read this chapter again! It is defiantly my new favorite too. You truly are too good to us! And I must add that Meridith adored this chapter too, she was seriously looking forward to the awkward birds and bees, and she found them! Thanks again and good luck with the next chapter!

    Author's Response:

Well, first all, tell Meredith to give us a shout!  Hi Meredith...glad you enjoyed the chapter.  The Talk was really fun.  :oP

The wedding was quite lovely to write.  Just warm fuzzies for those two but of course, it makes everything so much more sad as they loved each other so much.  Sigh.

Yeah, Sev really was having a rough time with Harry's emotions.  Sheesh, he almost laughed twice in only a few hours' time.  :oP  Severus is contented with Harry's decision but yeah, he also worries a bit, I think that it would be best for Harry to get back to normal, though of course, Harry (nor he) will ever be the same again.  And Harry really want to make up for all the time they've lost and so does Severus, so at least for now...Harry's decision is a good one.  They both need each other.

Ron just doesn't want to lose his best friend and sure, Harry's already been living with Severus, but everyone thought it was temporary.  So, it was a bit of shock to Ron that Harry's not coming back.  He's a teenager who thinks it's not cool to live with his parents.  LOL  And usually, he'd have a point but Harry never had parents to he's getting his second chance and Ron accepts but still, he'll miss his mate.  Aww, poor Ron.  LOL

The mixing emotions were fun.  Very fun.

Yeah the shaving scene was a bit of father/son normalcy for them.  yay!  The need it.

Dumbles was definitely doing something at Sev's old home.  LOL  And yeah, it's important to keep in mind that we aren't really keeping strictly to canon.  More fun to veer away.  Well, for me anyway.

Two reasons for Malfoy to go to Grimmauld Place.  Just like Ron, Hermione and Ginny went there.  They're safer there without all those profs in the castle who would normally be there.  And yeah, Dumbles is really hoping they will all become the bestest of friends.  Malfoy is sorta trying but he too has a temper and he'll have a really hard time getting over the whole pureblood superiority thing.  And Harry's comment at the end there, with them not being on opposite sides is really too much for Malfoy to handle right now.  It's an entire shift in thinking for him.  It will take awhile but Harry's such a good-hearted person, I think he'll keep on trying.  He's up next chapter again, so we'll see how things go.  Oh, and yeah, Lucius is rather frightening, isn't he?  Brrrr.

Quidditch won't be up for a bit.  But yeah, we certainly haven't seen the last of it.

I also don't remember the Talk specifically so yeah, I can only imagine but Harry did seem pretty mortified.  LOL

Yes, do speculate!   LOL  Have fun and thanks for another awesome review!  :o)

Snape is starting to spasm? From pain or from an overload of Harry's emotion? Is this to do with the locket or is it something Dumbledore is doing? After all, his eyes aren't twinkling they are glowing.

Absolutely loved the birds and the bees talk. Or should that be the "mortar and the pestle" instead? I mean really, could poor Harry be any more embarrassed? And when Snape offered to teach Ginny the charm as well... seriously LOL moment there.

Whatever are you going to do with Malfoy? He's so (understandably) touchy about his father. Especially with Harry.

Well done again. Thanks for another great chapter!

    Author's Response:

LOL  I love your speculations, but I'll just let you continue to speculate...  ;o)

Glad you loved the Talk.  It was incredibly fun to write!  LOL 'mortar and pestle'--I love it!  Nah, I don't think Harry could have been any more embarrassed.  Poor kid, but hey at least he's got someone to actually have the Talk with now.  *shrugs*  LOL  Yeah, and seriously, he'll probably need to teach Ginny that Charm as Molly's not so likely to do it.  Hee hee.

Malfoy...ah, Malfoy.  He's up next.  That kid is just twisted all up inside.  Doesn't know up from down anymore.  Harry tried to help though, at least extended that tentative arm of friendship.

Thanks so much for the review. I'm so happy you liked it!  :o)

    Oh, goody - the "talk".

And it was wonderful how you could go straight from embarrassing Harry so much that he would probably never look at Ginny again (well, at least, for a couple of hours) to getting a horacrux.

Author's Response: LOL...a couple of hours. hee hee.   Yay for horcruxes.  It's about time!  Well, at least that's what everyone but Harry is now thinking!  :oP

You know, there are just so many wonderful chapters, I can't decide anymore which is my favorite. But this one is pretty high on the list.

Poor Harry, still having nightmares, but after everything the poor kid has been through, it's not very surprising. I'm just glad Severus was there to comfort him and talk it out and reassure him.

Speaking of Sev, btw, I'm just so proud of him, I could burst! He's really come such a long way. He never hesitates to give Harry a hug, or to let him know that he's loved, and that he, Harry, is his father's top priority in life. That man needs a Father of the Year award!

Of course, Harry's such a good kid, he makes it easy for Severus, too. I mean, how could anyone not love Harry? (I'm a huge Harry fan, so I've got to give him his props, too).

I loved the scene in the Great Hall with Harry's friends. You've really nailed their personalities. Hermione was a little irksome, but she just gets that way once in a while. I think she's really just so protective of Harry and that's a big part of it...she's looking out for him, even though she can go about it wrong sometimes.

I loved that Neville's gran was proud of him for defending Harry. You know, this may off-topic, but I just love Neville, even to the point of playing around with ideas for a Neville fanfic (but I've got way too much else going on to actually write it). I remember not being too fond of Augusta in the first books, because I thought it was mostly her fault that Neville has such poor self-esteem, and I do still think that, actually. But I ended up liking her, and I was so glad that she finally learned to appreciate Neville for who he was. It's interesting to imagine how Neville's life would have been different if his parents either had never been targeted or if they had recovered. How would Neville have been different and how would he have been the same? Oh, well, I'm just kind of rambling. Sorry about that; now back to your story...

Draco is kind of getting on my nerves a bit, too. I can't figure out exactly what he's wanting here...to call a truce, become friends (he's not being very friendly if that's his goal), or if he's still being a git. Maybe Draco himself doesn't know what he wants right now. But I'm just rather confused by him right now.

I also loved the scene with Dumbledore and how Harry and Severus established a permanent mind connection. The imagery is just beautiful. I'm so looking forward to ch. 42. The birds and bees, huh? Should be interesting...

    Author's Response:

I had such a hard time writing this one for some reason...it's sorta the culmination of so much between these two, with Harry finally getting to the point that he understands that Severus loves him and will always be there for him.  So, it was draining.  It's one of my favorites too.  Maybe my favorite of all.  :o)

Severus is really reveling in all that this new round of fatherhood has brought to him.  A few chapters back, Harry figured out that Severus really needs to be needed and this is so true.  Severus has been without anyone for so long that he really is enjoying this chance he has to provide for someone again...just like he did with Lily.  And with Lily as well, it was the same.  Though it was hard to express himself to her, he always was available when she needed him and it's the same for Harry, but now it's even more natural, with everything he's gone through and especially since his trip beyond the veil.  Severus has been healed in many ways.  I'm pretty proud of him as well!  And yeah, Severus can't really help but love that kid.  Even when he's not doing things that are so great, he's still completely lovable for some reason; he's trying so hard, it's just adorable.  LOL

Hermione was irksome but it's really her love for Harry.  She also saw him getting pummeled at the end there so she saw how he really DID lose so much control and that is worrysome.  She also needs time, like Ginny did, to come to terms with the fact that Harry has a parent now, someone to go to and she doesn't need to be that conscious-type person and as you saw, Harry was annoyed with her but I think he gets as well, that Hermione was worried bout him.  She means well.  She'll get it, don't worry.

I love Neville as well.  I actually read a story once that it was him who got the scar.  I don't think it was ever finished and only had a couple chapters but it was interesting.

Draco has no idea what he wants at this point.  He's all tumbled up inside.  It woudl be great if he could stop being such a git because Harry really would be a good friend for him.  Harry can't help but being annoyed with him, but really, Harry's doing remarkably well with him and I think a lot of that is because he understands a bit what Draco is going through.

I'm glad you liked that mental connection at the end there.  That will play a very important role in the story. I love those little conversations they have in their minds...no inhibitions.  Chapter 42 will be fun, I hope.  Lots going on!  Thanks so much for reviewing, Kristeh!  :o)

Wow, absolutely beautiful! I have tears in my eyes, I feel a smile on my face, and warmth in my heart, too. The warmth increased when I thought of all the times I would snuggle with my mother, or lie with with my head on her lap (playing with my hair). Such a beautiful, poignant chapter with the pure love between a parent & child.

Author's Response: Thank you so much!  I'm glad the chapter warmed you so much.  I really think this one may be one of my favorites.  And yeah, that pure love is a beautiful thing and Harry is now just finally discovering that he has that with Severus.  Lots more fun moments next chapter.  Hope you keep enjoying and thanks so much for letting me know.  :o)

Finally, I hate it when life catches up to me and denies me my fanfiction...although I only had to wait a day. But this was an amazing chapter!! (And I'm seriously going to try to keep this one short...eh, shorter than my last ones, ok? Let's see how I do!)

Poor Harry and all his nightmares, they suck especially for this kid with his terrible past and now all the guilt and hurt that he's caused that makes him all the more anxious around Sev. *sigh* At least you can always count on Dad to be there...and he's doing a great job with Harry. I really do like how he handles Harry's emotions and emotional break downs, it's breathtaking. Although it's apparent that Sev still doesn't understand Harry fully, he's confused at how Harry can speak of being locked in his cupboard so casually as well as having meals withheld as a punishment, they've still made amazing progress and are taking more steps each day...yay!!

I was so glad that Neville didn't get in trouble...and was actually commended by Gran for his behavior! I so adore Neville and the whole Great Hall scene was great with no one taking notice of Sev's grounding Harry being strange, or assuming the worst for Harry's punishment in the first place. But Hermione did irk me...she was just too bossy, too much of a know it all. But sadly, still in character as she would have realized that no one was scorning Harry for his reaction to Pinth's taunting...but it still hurt. Luckily Ginny was there, or I'm pretty sure Harry might have said something hurtful rather than change the subject. He's SLYTHRIN!!! Yea!, we've got Potter! That was really clever, especially since he was able to paint Hermione in a different light as well. Tee hee. Go Harry. Although it must have hurt more that Harry wasn't going to say anything more about the charm, but I think (or at least I hope) that Hermione realized the dangers. She probably did, she's smart like that...but I have a feeling that she's going to keep digging anyway.

    I love Ginny, she's great!

And, loath as I am to admit it...Draco's pretty cool too. Each chapter just makes him more complicated, more confusing...I don't know what to do with this kid. Would you be willing to re-hash him for me?

““He wants to discuss your mother’s Charm and as this concerns you, I want you there.” Something about the way his father said that, made Harry glow.” I was glowing too, for the record. This whole scene within Dumbledore's office was awesome! Although, I really would like to know more about what Sev and Dumbles were speaking oh-so-secretively...and wonder what's happened to Harry's curiosity!! Why didn't he ask any questions?! Rats! Well, at least they got to interact within their minds again...as you said in another review, without inhibitions. And that's brilliant. I loved it so much...

But perhaps I'll love it when they get to that oh-so-awkward conversation...and they regret it...tee hee!!

Hmmm...what's Dumbledore been up to?! He got something that made him happy, but failed to procure the locket...hints?

Ok! Can't wait for this next chapter!! Seriously, I can't wait! Hopefully your muses keep pestering you and Cathy's able to get on sometime!! Good luck and have a great weekend!

    Author's Response:

Yeah, Cathy...we miss you...wherever you are!  Okay, yes...I can re-hash Draco for you.  And, about Harry.  The continuation of the scene in Dumbles' office is coming up so never fear.  His curiosity hasn't gone anywhere!  LOL  Just took a little breather for the whole Mental connection thingy.

First, this is my view on Hermione.  I sorta of view her as having acted as Harry's conscious through the years.  And as he had no parent, she sorta filled that roll, and so it seems harsher coming from her as she is just a kid but she's tried to steer Harry millions of times and so it's not so bad really.  She's just used to tempering Harry's impulses, or at least trying.  She's just got to get it into her head now that Harry has a parent and doesn't need her help that way anymore.  Not that he probably ever appreciate it...  And yeah, the whole scene with her was meant to illustrate how much Harry has changed.  Remember he was the one insisting that he could help just months ago while the others told him he couldn't.  And now, Harry is growing up and starting to take on some important responsibilities.

Yeah and Harry didn't argue because he knew that would rile Ginny up and I don't think Harry feels like any arguing right now.  And yeah, it was good for Harry that nobody made a bother about him being in trouble with Snape.  It's just more normalcy for him.  YAY!

Draco...He's all twisted up inside.  His parents (at least Dad) had been a loyal Death Eater type who hates anything but purebloods. He's respected Sev all his life but now is confused because he has been a traitor all along but his dad now is also a traitor and he wants Voldy to die so he won't have to kill dumbles and he doesn't want his father to be tortured over and over.  At this point, I think he feels not-hatred for Harry but couldn't begin to tell you why.

Glad you got to have some warm fuzzies this chapter!

No hints but more secrets revealed up next!   It's going to be a very busy chapter 42!
