Man, there is just so much going on in this chapter that I love!! But, I'll try to keep this short...By the way, I love the banner!! Cathyrf is amazing!!

Loved the Quidditch scene. Tonks is hilarious and it was great to hear Sev wishing Harry luck eventhough it's going against his house through Remus. It's nice to know that Sev and Remus have finally stopped fighting over Harry for real, that they've finally realized that Harry needs them both.

Ok, the Occlumency Lesson in Dumbledore's office gave me a warm fuzzy feeling...and it's good that someone finally really knows what Harry and Sev's relationship is like...especially since it's Ginny as she is the main one that Harry confides in.

I loved the little blurb about their next Occlumency lesson as well. Just the fact that they're starting to catch up on those 10 years that they've missed out on was heart warming...but what about the pictures?? More, please!

The Order Meeting was nicely juxtaposed with the beginning of the chapter...deliciously horrid, too. I'm excited but really apprehensive too to learn what's going to happen on Halloween. Hopefully there's not too much agnst when Sev and Harry get around to talking about it...although agnst is nice. Do the Weasley's not know that Sev is Harry's dad? That's kinda surprising...but then again it's not. Ok, I like contradicting myself tonight, I guess. It was comforting to see some Parental!Snape too, motioning to Remus to comfort Harry. Yet another sign of how far they've come (Remus and Sev as well as Sev and Harry).

I liked how tuned into Harry Sev is. It was just nice to have him notice Harry's discomfort, note that one more certain comment and Harry would crack, that Harry was Occluding too much emotion. I also enjoyed Sev's response. It's too bad that he's created a persona that he then has to keep up...I'd personally like to see more Smiling!Snape and such. *sigh* I also think that Sev is wrong when he said that he wasn't the right person to have that particular conversation with Harry...I think he's the only person who should have it. The main reason is because Harry knows that Sev won't lie to him and no matter how hard it is to hear the truth sometimes, or a lot of the time with Harry, he needs to hear it. Harry does better with more information then less and with something closer to reality than fiction. It's also because Harry knows that Sev loves him...information just means more and sticks better from someone you respect and care for.

Yeah, that scene in Dumble's office was amazing...warm fuzzy feeling still here.

Thanks for yet another amazing chapter, now I'm off to read your winter fic...and hope that it's not too sad!

    Happy week! Good luck writing!

    Author's Response:

cathyrf is pretty amazing, it's true!

Glad you liked the Quidditch scene and especially the older boys getting along well enough to look past themselves a bit to take care of Harry.

Yay, for warm fuzzies, especially since there were non to be found in my winter story.  LOL  And yes, it was great to have Ginny there to witness everything.  Don't worry...more pictures are on their way...but not next chapter.  But, really they're coming.  LOL

'deliciously horrid'.  thanks!  Glad you liked that dichotomy too.  A bit of angst of course, but really what else can you expect from me?  LOL

Nope, the Weasleys don't know.  Poppy, Sev and Albus are the only ones right now.  Can you imagine what Molly will have to say about that?!  Yikes.  Wouldn't want to be Sev.  LOL

It was nice to have Sev and Lupin working together a bit for Harry's greater good.  Those too are really making some good progress.

Sev really is getting to know his son well, but not too surprising as I think Severus has a knack for notcing things...especially the little things.  Good trait in a spy.

All true about why Sev is a good person for Harry to be listening too.  Hopefully, Sev will get that too soon enough.

LOL for your warm fuzzy.  You'll need it to carry over to that other fic.  :oP  Thanks and have a great week yourself.

Great chapter! The Quidditch game was fun to read, I especially liked how Hermione could calm Ron when no one else could...and Ginny's impatience with him. She's such a typical sister!

The little confrontation with the Slytherins was a little scary for me, because I was expecting more to happen, and I was even worried for Harry if one of them had managed to portkey him away. I hope he's remembering that some of them have orders to bring him before Voldemort.

But then I loved the little session with Severus and Harry, with Ginny there, that came next. And Severus told Harry he loved him! I hope Harry can say it back before long.

The Order meeting was very intense, and a stark reminder of how serious things are. I've very concerned about Halloween coming up...for Harry, for his friends, and perhaps most of all for Severus. I don't think you'll kill him off (you better not! I don't mean to sound fierce, but you better not!), but I think he may be in for a very rough time.

I so wish he could quit spying, and then he could just be Harry's dad. But he does have a crucial role as a spy and could learn important information. He really is extremely brave. But I still hope he can quit spying soon.

And I loved how he signaled to Remus to go comfort Harry during the meeting. It's obvious how much he loves Harry, how attuned to him he is, and how increasingly hard it is for both of them to maintain the charade.

Oh, and I loved how Ginny saw how much Severus cares for Harry, and how Harry and Severus spent that lesson mostly just talking and getting to know one another. Just such sweet little touches.

    Looking forward to more!

    Author's Response:

YAY!  I'm so happy that you like it.  I really am.  I just love that you like my story even though you have your own awesome story!  :oP

I'm glad too that you liked the little bits and touches here and there.  I love those too and it's fun to add here and there to round everything out, I guess.  Hermion and Ron are just so good together, you know?  I think both of them act as a calming influence to each other since they both are kinda of spazzey personalities, but in different ways.  And, yeah love Ginny and Ron and how they play off each other.

Well, trust me, those Slytherins did hope for more as well, though not sure a portkey would work on the Hogwarts grounds, but yeah....Harry does need to remember (and after his little talk with Sev, I think he does) that the Slytherins are really gunning for him.  Well, some of them at least.

So happy you enjoyed the little 'love' part and yeah, it was really fun to have Ginny there.  It's about time one of Harry's friends really gets to see how Sev really is with Harry.

Well, I won't make any promises about Sev and yes, you should indeed be very concerned for Halloween.  Things truly are very serious and all this lovey dovey has rather distracted us from it, hasn't it?  LOL  But, not for much longer.  LOL about your demand for Sev's safety...but hmmm...still no promises there!  LOL

I wish he'd quit spying too but alas, it seems not to be in the cards for these two right now.  *sigh*   It truly is though getting harder and harder for them to keep up apperances.  I'm glad you liked that little Remus signaling in there.  He is very attuned to Harry.  Really, for the first timein 15 years, he has something to care about and yep, he's gonna focus everything he has on Harry, just like he did with Lily and baby Harry all those years ago.  Ahh...how sweet.  :oP

Hopefully, he and Harry will have a bit more time to get to know each other before Halloween.....dum, dum, dum.  :o)

    Thanks for reviewing!

My goodness, woman, has your brain ever been busy to concoct this intriguing chapter! I certainly have a lot of things to ponder with the story now. Hmmm....

Right off the bat, I laughed out loud because I could hear Tonk's voice in my head when she said "Anybody starkers in there?" I mean, how can you NOT love Tonks. Severus sending good luck wishes to Harry through Remus was cute.

I kept thinking as Harry was resisting reacting to the Slytherin taunts "keep going Harry...you can ignore them" all the while knowing full well that at some point they would of course yank his chain and get the wand pulled on them. Thankfully, Severus was there when it happened.

And he didn't land on Harry overly hard, but did make his point. AND in front of Ginny! I liked that Ginny got to see first hand Severus' feelings towards Harry, since she's the one who centers him when he needs it when Severus isn't around. But what I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED was the scene of Severus in Harry's mind showing him the emotional exercise. Am I wrong, or isn't this the first time Severus has told Harry he loves him? And you did it in the most masterful way in this scene. Because it would have been so completely out of character (to me) for Severus to say it out loud to Harry at this point in a conversation. But to SHOW him in his mind, let Harry FEEL it, drove the sentiment home in a much deeper, poignant way. Perfect. Especially from where they were coming from at the end of the previous chapter when Severus realized Harry didn't really believe in him yet. Yup, perfect.

Oh boy it got grim after that. So old Voldy is planning a Halloween attack, heh? I've got all sorts of thoughts on how you might go with this, and it will make for some delicious reading knowing you. It just has to drive Severus crazy not to be able to console Harry at all and to motion to Remus to do it for him. How hard to watch anybody but him comfort Harry at this point while he has to stand in the background pretending not to care. (And thanks Remus, for being Harry's rock in the conversation with the Weasleys). So while I do feel for Harry after the news he got here (although more dire news is to come) the hug goes to Severus for this chapter.

I know no matter how many precautions are always taken, Voldy always manages to get his hands on Harry in some fashion. Harry in mortal danger just makes really fun reading! Of course, you may go in another direction altogether because you're wonderfully good at proving me wrong. :=P

The banter between Severus and Harry was really cute at the end. Harry noting that Severus hadn't taken point in awhile and Severus immediately threatening to correct his oversight...HAHAHA.

Oh, talking with Harry about Halloween is going to be juicy and angsty. I love angst. Can't wait.

    Author's Response:

I do love Tonks, it's true.  She is just really fun to write!  And yeah, I thought old Sev was pretty adorable with sending his good luck wishes.

Yes, it was a very good thing that Severus was there.  Those Slytherins truly were just itching to get Harry.  I think Sev fully did intend to land much harder on Harry but truly I think at this point, it just reminds him too much of old times and Severus really does NOT want to have anything happening resembling the old days, especially as they continue with the charade. Harry got the point though without too much anger from Severus so that was a very nice step for them.  And, yep, right with our favorite redhead right there.  I loved that as well.  And yep, now Ginny really gets it.  I love that.

And yes, you are very correct.  That is the first time Severus tells Harry he loves him.  I loved that part so much.  It was incredibly heart-warming to write.  Thank you so much for the compliment about the way it came out.  I agree too that it would be way too unnatural for Severus to actually say that out loud at this point, but it doesn't even matter.  Harry understands it...he knows Severus loves him.  And wow, what a great feeling that is.  Feeling it was just what he needed and to recognize now too that warmth in his father's eyes is really love is just what Harry needs.  *sigh*

LOL.  My chapters always go from happy to grim, or vice versa, don't they?  :oP

Halloween will be grim indeed.  And, yes it did drive Sev a bit mad that he has to send Remus over to comfort Harry but he did it, which lets us see how far he really has come.  Harry comes first, over and over again, no matter what it costs Sev.  Stalwart, that one.

LOL about proving you wrong.  I might, but then again, I might not.  LOL

I'm glad you enjoyed that banter at the end.  I do so enjoy their banter.  And yes, be on the lookout for lots of angst to come.  Oh the next few chapters will be full of all kinds of fun and angst!

    Thanks for reviewing, as always!

I meant to ask. Since this is year six, is HBP being ignored and there will be no hunt for TR's memories and no burnt hand for Dumbledore?

Author's Response: Nope, no memores of TR for Harry to look at and nope, Dumbledore doesn't have a burnt hand...stay tuned the update will be up later today (well, in US midwestern time).

Oh wonderous story. Thank you. (and that video - I sobbed)

Author's Response: Thank you so much.  I'm so happy you liked it.  And that video...well that bit of genius belongs to siriuslyenthralled.  The woman is a wizard (or witch I guess...lol).  I cried too. Ahhh...love it.

Wow, this story seriously gets better each chapter! I don't know how you do it, or how Sev and Harry are surviving this emotional rollarcoaster...I barely am! But, great update!! I can't wait for the next one!

I was so glad that Harry was able to comfort Sev, especially since he DOES understand what Sev's feeling. It was great to see Sev without any shields too, eventhough the reasons for the lack of shields is less than pleasent. It shows Harry just how much Sev loves and trusts him. *sigh*

I like how the dinner conversation went too, it was nice especially since Harry gets to tell his friends what's going on without going against Sev's orders. It's good that Sev understands (I think he understands, at least) how much Harry needs his friends. I love the starter-sentences that Harry used to try and explain himself, each was worse than the last! Good thing Sev didn't take it the wrong way...

I hope we get to see some more of this photo album...those were some good pictures! And I sopped breathing once Sev said, "Most sixteen year olds, even Malfoys, do not relish the idea of becoming a murderer.” Then my heart stopped once I read that the photo album fell to the ground, and I only breathed again once Sev stopped mentally shaking me and stopped shaking Harry. Woah. Then Sev saying he would be there with Harry "for all of it" and yet Harry is unable to believe him...that broke my now beating heart...

You really covered a lot of heavy topics this chapter...good thing I keep a defibulator on hand for these types of situations.

I wonder if there is more danger, in general, to all the students that they're not allowed to go about the castle or grounds alone...hmmm...or is this just some disception to not make Harry stick out so much, being escorted by a teacher or friend places?...but that doesn't really make sense...I don't know!!

URGH!! Malfoy...nothing to say about him, except he's a (jerk)*insert appropriate personal favorite swear word here...perhaps broom head! Why doesn't he realize that Harry's trying to help him out!?...Because he's too wrapped up in his own little world...Malfoy-Land... Oh, and he's a wuss..

It was hard to see both Harry and Sev hurt by their current predicament too, needing to be nasty to each other in Potions. When is that going to change? Probably after Harry faces Voldie, right? Or after Sev is found out to be spy...really not good situations, so...I guess I can handle some agnst in Potions for a while longer.

Remus...and Tonks!!! *smiles from ear to ear, literally* I love them to death!

It was good of Remus to show Harry just how much he ment to Sev, too. Remus is good at giving those ever helpful nudges in the right direction. It's nice that Harry now fully understands just how comitted Sev is to him.

I had to recharge the defibulator after Harry's justified outburst about living at the Dursley's. But at "I will not send you back to that house," I was ok again...until the next few lines. I seriously was almost screaming at my laptop, "Harry! Just believe him! He's been telling the truth from the begining!!" Because it is a tad frustrating how thick Harry can be sometimes...but he's perfectly in character!!, so don't change him!

So, after this delicious chapter...I am more in love with your Sev and Harry than I ever thought possible! I'm so glad they're working hard and are finally able to understand each oter better and can only hope that Harry puts up some Occlumency shields during the day so we can avoid another confrontation.

Good luck with the next chapter! I'm really looking forward to what you've got in store for our two favorite guys!

    Author's Response:

Severus does already love Harry.  And yeah, that whole accepts of Harry's words really did show that.

Severus doesn't completely understand, though he did see that James would not betray his family and that helps here a bit.  But more important that understanding, he recognizes that it is important to Harry and as Severus has already done the 'unthinkable' by helping the werewolf, how could he deny his son anything, ever again.  That's really (although I'm sure I keep repeating myself) what this story is about.  Severus' atonement and him being the one to bring Harry to him, instead of the other way around.  I kinda see him as taking over Lily's role toward him in the past.  Severus is so disinclined to emotion and and maybe even to love, so Lily had to be the one, constantly guiding him and from her example, now that Severus has a reason again, he is doing the same for Harry.  He's the rock, while Harry finds his footing, I guess.  Oh and yeah, we'll definitely see more of those photos.  How can I deny my Harry and Sev too, the trip back to happy memories?

Well, Harry didn't believe him then but he does now...I think he can finally start believing.

LOL  you're so funny with your defibulator.  :oP

Hmm...the no alone-ness rule was definitely not ordered by Dumbledore, but that's all I'll say about that!  LOL

Malfoy is the meanest, isn't he?  I love him though.

Yeah, stopping the charade will have to involve something pretty big so for now, they should take what they can get!

Glad you loved Remus and Tonks.  I do too.  I have plans for those two!

Remus is pretty helpful, isn't he?  Severus really owes that man a lot.  :o)

Screaming at your laptop!  LOL  I was too, actually.  That boy was giving me some angst, not just playing along.  Ah well, at least now he's got a clue.  And don't worry...this Harry ain't changing at all.  I love him too much, thickness and all.

I am in love with these boys too.  Which reminds me...I have a great title for my sequel... LOL   And, don't worry, Harry will work on those shields.

Great, great chapter! I think I just want to say everything that cathyrf said...she expressed my thoughts on the chapter perfectly, too.

It really was wonderful how Harry was able to comfort his father and hopefully assuage his grief and guilt. It does show Harry's maturity, and how close they've already become.

I was so glad that Harry talked with Severus about how he needs to be able to be open with his friends, and how they can be trusted. Severus has to see that, much as he might regret it now, that Ron and Hermione, and Ginny to a degree, have been Harry's family for years now. He shouldn't try to diminish that...and I think he does realise it now. So that's all good.

It was nice to see Harry spending some time with Remus and Tonks. One thing I really like about your story, and I don't know if you wrote it this way deliberately or not, but at the beginning, Severus was very jealous of Remus. And maybe Remus was too, a little bit. Severus and Remus exchanged words a couple of times over Harry, but when Remus was hurt, Severus did everything possible to both help heal Remus, and help and comfort Harry. It was because he was supportive and understanding of Harry's love for Remus that he and Harry became much closer themselves. If Severus had tried to pull Harry away from Remus, I think it would have really hurt their relationship. A perfect example of how real love is selfless, but also how it works when nothing else will.

Oh, well, I loved the chapter, and am eagerly looking forward to the next!

    Author's Response:

    Thank you!

They have become pretty close, if only Harry could take a couple more step, they'd be there as really, Severus is just waiting for him to cross that line.  And, he's not going anywhere.  :oP

Severus did take what Harry said to heart, very very seriously though Harry doesn't realize it yet, even thouh Sev did tacitly agree.  There was a clue in there for you guys, though.  LOL

I love how you describe how Harry and Severus' relationship evolved and yep, it was planned that way.  Severus really was struggling even until that last second with how much Harry cares about Remus, but as soon as he realized (while Harry was in his arms, I think) that Harry was his, either way, he was going to do whatever it took to help his son, no matter what that entailed.  Anything less and you're right...their relationship would be very damaged.

Thanks so much for your awesome words.  Glad you enjoyed the story!

I kept secretly hoping for a new chapter yesterday and was a bit disappointed when I didn't get it. But now I can see that the wait was well worth it! This was meaty is all kinds of ways.

Harry was absolutely amazing in his comforting words to Severus (and he called him "Dad"! That made me so happy). He knew exactly *what* to say and how to say it, because he's had to grow up early in so many ways, and he really truly does loves Severus - and we all know Harry's capacity to do just that. He could relate to Severus' feelings because he has felt the same way himself (due to Sirius and Cedric). And Severus realized it, too. I love that Harry got to see Severus' pain with no mask or walls to hide it and see inside his soul at his agony and maybe make it go away just a little bit.

Their dinner conversation was comfortable and enjoyable for them (and us readers!) The sharing of the photo album with Harry was a sweet touch. But when he dropped it on the floor and said:

“And what about me?” Harry asked unsteadily. “Who am I going to answer to when I become a murderer?”

I knew Harry would react to the statement Severus had just made, but I still uttered an out loud "Oh!" after I read it. We all know Severus WILL be there to help him with old Voldymort, but we want Harry to believe it too.

I could tell Severus wasn't thrilled that Harry called him "sir" again when he stayed behind after class. I don't blame Harry for being tired of the charade, however.

This bit cracked me up though:

“It seems you need to work harder on Occluding your mind if my sudden appearance in a Floo startles you so,” his father commented dryly.

I did...I laughed out loud. Of course, the amusement didn't last long when Harry started his (well deserved, in my opinion) tirade. Who came blame him for being angry with Dumbledore knowing about his abuse at the Dursleys. But Severus telling him to take as long as he needs to believe that he will never be abandoned again and Harry finally *believing* him this time was music (or words?) to my ears. You just got to believe, Harry...

That was a nice smile to end the chapter on for this reader.

    Author's Response:

LOL  I actually did feel really bad that I was so slow (i know, not really) about getting this chapter out but Harry was really being a pain.  He kept doing and saying the exact opposit of what I wanted him to.  Urgghhh!  And Severus, steady as a rock that one.  Much more so than I ever intended him to be.  *sigh* ....love that guy.

Yeah, Harry certainly can comfort here as he knows exactly how Severus is feeling.  And that Dad part...well that was another thing I didn't mean to happy.  It just kinda was.  *sigh*

And you're right...though Harry could never classify it, he truly is beginning to love this man.  Severus, of course, is already firmly there, having had a bit of a head start.  Won't it be great when Harry does finally realize how he feels?  YAY!

Glad you liked dinner and the photos.  It's about time these two had a heart to heart!  I know, I kept think, Sev, dont' say, don't say it, but of course he did and that was really the last straw for Harry, as he's been worry about this for 2 days but trying not to.  I so wanted Harry to believe!

Yeah, there both tired of the charade, but it will take some pretty drastic actions to change it so for now, they really are better off this way.  :oP

Glad you got a laugh outta this one.  I enjoyed that line as well.  And yep, I think our Harry can really start believing in this man he calls father.  Happy smiles, my friend.  :o)

Title: Chapter 25: Snape's Misery 15 Jan 2008 10:58 pm

Since I've gotten so far behind, I'll review the past 3 chapters, okay? (I know you won't mind, lol!)

For Chapter 23, I loved how Severus responded when Harry called him "Dad." The awkwardness and the longing for a closer relationship that they both feel is so obvious.

It's actually kind of sad to me that Severus tells Harry to keep their conversation private and not tell his friends. It shows how deprived Severus is of true friends himself. And though I know his opinion of Gryffindor recklessness, he should realize that Harry's friends are completely loyal to him and trustworthy. Hopefully, he'll see it as the fic goes along.

I also loved the confrontation between McGonagall and Severus: They both have valid points. Severus has spent five years despising and mistreating Harry, so I can't Minerva for being concerned, and yet Severus is also right that she herself could have done more to help Harry and to keep him out of danger. Its nice that they're both feeling protective, though. Harry needs all the people watching out for him that he can get.

I really do feel sorry for Draco. What horrible pressure he's under, but on the other hand, when he made the "Potter hates me," comment, I also wanted to say, "Well, what do you expect, kid? You haven't been the soul of friendliness yourself the past few years, you know." I can't wait to see how this is going to play out!

And you know how to end on a cliffhanger!

Well, now onto ch. 24: It was just beautiful how Severus was able to be there for Harry when he was so distraught and upset about Remus being hurt. I just want to pat him on the back and say, "Well done, Dad!"

Severus was good to take Harry to the infirmary that night, too, so he could be with Remus, and the scene with Harry crying in his arms was so sweet, and sad, and wonderful!

I love how protective Severus has become of Harry, and it makes me wonder how things would have been different if the truth about them had come out during the Triwizard Tournament or when Umbridge was at Hogwarts. That would be interesting to see, too.

And Harry's confusion about what to call Severus is so real. I could really sympathize with him.

Chapter 25: The flashback between Severus and Lily is bittersweet indeed. I love their closeness, the romantic teasing, and Severus' jealousy...but it's tragic knowing how it will end.

Harry sleeping on Severus' sofa, and his father tucking him in and watching over him is just such a lovely scene. I'm so glad you've gotten to the point where our boys can play nice with each other. Sometimes it's kind of fun to write them being snarky and mean to one another, but sweet and cuddly is much, much better!

I love how much they both just want to be father and son, and I really hope that that day isn't too far off.

And poor Severus, he does have a terrible burden of guilt, but hopefully Harry can help him. It's hard, but he was just trying to do what he thought was best.

I'm very curious about that charm, too!

    Looking forward to more!

    Author's Response:

Wow, it may be my longest review yet! LOL

Glad you liked the "Dad" scene.  Their longing for each other is pretty clear, it's true.  And you are very right about Severus not understanding about Friends.  Lily was his only real friend and James came pretty close and both of them 'seemed' to have betrayed him.  It's too much to past right now.  He does need to learn his friends will be there and at least I think he is starting to see that with Ginny.  We'll see how that goes.

The McGonagall scene was fun and you're right.  They both are 100 percent right.  Neither of them did so great.  But yeah, it's fun to see people being protective of Harry.  :o)  Yeah, I feel bad for Draco too.  But, you're right.  A lot of his problems are his own problems.  *sigh*.  Thanks for the cliffanger compliment.  That one was fun!

"Well done, Dad", indeed.  Severus does need a pat, doesn't he?  I'm so happy you liked the crying huggy part.  That is officially my favorite scene (though right now it's battling for first place with that corridor Lily/Sev scene..LOL)

Well, now you've made me want to do another story in a different year.  LOL  That would be pretty interesting.

Harry is still struggling with what to call Severus.  But, they'll get through that too.

It is tragic knowing that Lily will die and really it just makes me want to write a story entirely about the two of them.

Didn't you love that tucking in part?  That was really adorably fun to write.  So cozy.

We'll have to see what Harry can do next chapter for his father.  If anything at all.  Oh, and glad I've piqued your curiosity about the Charm.

    Fantastic as always.

It amazes me that you can update so quickly. You never seem to suffer from writer's block.

Of course, this is to our great advantage.

    Eagerly awaiting next update.

    Author's Response:

LOL  I have lots of it already written so it's not always too much work to get a chapter out.  That said, I do have writer's block a lot but I have about 6 stories going right now so if I do get blocked, I can usually go write another one for a bit and then inspiration hits!

Glad you enjoyed the chapter!  And happy to see your story here now. :o)
