Reviews For Slave Child
Author's Response: Thank you!
Thanks!! :) Author's Response: Thank you! I'm really glad you like it cause when I was writing it, I kept thinking it wasn't all that good really...I guess I need to worry if I ever do write something that I think is good cause then people will probably hate it, lol. Yes, it is kind of mean of Sev to sort of want Harry to stay a slave...or maybe not mean, but I wanted to show some of Severus' flaws too. He hasn't just become a perfect person, but he isn't trying to be 'mean'...he feels quite ashamed really, because he knows how wrong it is to want to keep Harry under the spell. It's just that he's so afraid of losing Harry if Harry were freed now. Severus hasn't had very many people in his life that he could care for and become close to, and now that he's let Harry into his heart, he can't bear the idea of losing him...and Harry probably would leave Prince Hall at this point if he were able. Harry doesn't realise how much Severus cares, doesn't fully trust him, and doesn't see Prince Hall as his home. Harry's not quite as miserable as he was at first, but he's still very focused on the idea that all this is just temporary until he can go and be with his 'real' family. Severus' jealousy of the Weasleys is also related to his insecurities about Harry, and about personal relationships in general. I think he still needs to internalise the truth that when you love someone, you do what's best for them and not what's best for you. I do think that if push came to shove right now, Severus would do what was best for Harry, because he does genuinely care for him now, but on a conscious level, he's still got some learning to do, if that makes sense. Thanks again!
"Never again," he whispered. "You're my child now, and no one will ever hurt you again." That was the best! I love the way that Snape was all angry when he saw the scars on Harry's hand and Harry was still a little scared but he got over it enough to acknowledge that he would not like to be in Umbridge's shoes when Severus meets her next! I shudder at the thought! I would hate to be her too! I wish that Harry would say something about his thoughts to Severus but not quite yet because even if Severus happens to overhear him thinking about suicide in Harry's dreams or something it will be a difficult topic to bring up if Harry doesn't really trust him fully. Make Sev hug Harry! Author's Response: Thank you! I'm so happy you do. Yes, I know that line from Severus is moving pretty fast, but I just couldn't help putting it in, and it helps Severus to be open when Harry is asleep and doesn't hear him. Harry doesn't fully trust yet, but I think he's making some progress. I wouldn't want to be Umbridge either. I think Severus could make the centaurs look tame. And they can't hug yet, lol! It would mess up my plans. That chapter is still a little ways off. Thanks again...I enjoy reading your comments!
wondering how harry will reveal his sadly suicidal urges to snape...
wondering how harry will reveal his sadly suicidal urges to snape... Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, I'm so proud of Sev, lol! How will Harry reveal his suicidal tendencies? I'm considering two different options right now, but I'm pretty sure which one I'm going with,...but I can't write it for a few more chapters *Evil laugh*
Author's Response: Thank you! *blushes* Well, considering it's me, I think softy Sev is a given, lol!
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you did.
Author's Response: Thank you! I love showing Severus being all protective, and I do think he'd be extremely protective of someone he cared for.
Author's Response: You're right; it would mean a lot to Harry...if he really believed it, but I'm not sure he would yet. He's beginning to trust Severus...I love Anne's line that Harry's heart is warming up to Severus faster than his mind is...but I'm not sure he would believe that Severus really considered him as a son yet. Partly because of their past and lingering distrust, but also because I think that Harry would have a hard time believing that any adult really wants him around. He believed Sirius because Sirius wanted Harry to live with him from almost the moment they met, and Sirius proved himself to Harry during the Triwizard Tournament year, hiding in a cave and eating rats just to be near Harry then. Harry might believe the Weasleys would be willing to take him in because he's had several years of being around them, and they've made him feel welcome. But I don't think it's something Harry would easily believe...he spent too many years with the Dursleys drilling it into him that he was an unwanted burden, so anyone else would have to overcome that baggage and really reassure Harry. But Severus will make it plain to Harry later on in the story. Thank you!
That's my favorite line in this chapter. It just gives me warm fuzzies. I am so glad that Snape found out about the Umbridge abuse. I think the way you wrote Snape's reaction was perfect. Also, Harry's reaction to Snape's reaction. Just so surprised that anyone would be concerned on his behalf. I think you handled that whole scene wonderfully. Btw,I would love to see an Umbridge/Snape confrontation. Although, little does Snape realize that Harry wants to hurt himself. What will he do when he finds out? The emotions involved when dealing with a suicidal person can be extremely contradictory and complex. On the on hand you want them to know how much they are loved and cherished. On the other hand there is a very strong anger toward that suicidal person, just as there would be anger toward anyone who would want to hurt that person. You want to comfort that person and at the same time you want to rage at them. At least that's been my experience. I wonder how a person as volatile as Snape will respond? I noticed that Harry kept getting a "lump" in his throat. I love that. It seems to me that Harry beginning to respond to Snape's concern at a certain level. I think his heart might be warming up to Snape faster than his intellect is. I like the way you solved the problem of Snape instructing Harry in dueling. Toby. Interesting name. Love the irony. What a great therapeutic way for Snape to stick it to his father. I have to confess, I'm of an age that the name "Toby" will always make me think of "Roots." The scene when Kunta Kinte was beaten until he accepted his slave name, "Toby," will forever be seared into my consciousness. That name just evokes a lot of emotions for me. I think this might be true for many people of my generation, people who saw the original broadcast of "Roots." I may have missed it in an earlier chapter; but, how come Harry gets to do magic? He is an underage wizard. He's not at Hogwarts. It's summer. Maybe you've addressed this issue already. Could you remind me which chapter it's in. Also, I wasn't expecting this chapter to come so quickly. Not for another week or two at least. I was going to reread some parts of SC and was so pleasantly surprised to see that you had updated. I was so excited. Also, imho, this is one of your best chapters so far. Author's Response: Thank you! I wasn't sure about that line, but I am glad I decided to go ahead with it. You're absolutely right about Harry's being surprised that people would care about his welfare...it's just not something he has a lot of experience with, with a guardian anyway. He's too used to taking care of himself and having to handle things alone. The Umbridge/Severus confrontation will probably have to wait til the sequel...I'm sorry to disappoint all the people who want to see it sooner, but SC is pretty well planned out, and I really do think it would seem out of place to stick that in. On the other hand, in the sequel, I do have the idea that some of the Azkaban prisoners will escape and there will be some threats and conflicts from that, so I think I could work in Sev and Umbridge having a showdown better in the sequel. Yes, I can see that dealing with a suicidal person can be very difficult and cause lots of conflicting emotions. Severus may show some of that, but I think after some initial anger he will try to understand the causes of Harry's behavior and try to meet those needs and heal the wounds that have driven Harry to such a dangerous depression. He may feel some anger and guilt at first, though. >>>his heart might be warming up to Snape faster than his intellect is.>>> What a great line, and I think it's a good way to describe what's going on with Harry. Oh, I didn't even think about "Roots". I was just a wee little tyke when that originally aired, and though I have heard of that scene, it never crossed my mind. "Toby" is, as you said, one of Severus' jabs at his own father. The part dealing with Harry doing underage magic is in chapter 14, when DD and Poppy come to dinner, and DD is talking with Harry and Severus about Sev working with Harry on Defense. He lifts the Trace from Harry so Harry can train and practice. I decided that since DD is head of the Wizangamot, that I would give him that authority. Thank you so much. My SC muse is going strong right now and it's hard to deny it. I don't know which story I'm going to work on next...I may even write a short Trio vignette for another group I belong to, but SC is my favorite story that I'm working on, and I'll try to update again within a week or so.
