Reviews For Lily's Charm: The Gift
i really enjoyed this chapter and am loving this story as a whole. it's very emotionally intense and the plot is emotionally involved and original. so much better than so many fanfics where it's all plot and no character development. you've got a great plot going and it's character-driven and character-growing, along with so many fantastic original ideas. you've delved into occlumency and developed it so much farther than jkr ever took it. and the new magic, plot, and character development are intertwined, all feeding into each other - really well done. this was another great chapter. very good read, and as always i'm left hungering for more. please keep writing! Author's Response: LOL Yeah, it was a bit of a team effort this go round. :oP Thanks, Skrewt. I am not really a plot girl. LOL I am all about the characters and the way that life affects them, and I'm thrilled that you are enjoying it. Thanks so much for letting me know. This is one of my favorite chapters, just for that very reason. I love to delve into these characters' minds. Thanks for the review! :o)
I see fireworks in the future (Channeling Tralewney) Author's Response: *tips my hat to your innter Trelawney* Fireworks ahead! And thanks. Yeah, Severus was a bit frantic there. Poor guy.
The sad thing is, Sirius does have a point in terms of his observations of Snape's behavior over the years. Not the fact that Snape can't genuinely love Harry, but the fact that Snape did royally screw up and was incredibly emotionally stunted (which of course was a topic already brought up between Snape and Harry, in the prequel to this story). While it's true he doesn't take into account any of Snape's good points or recent developments in Snape's character, he is good at pointing out Snape's flaws. And as for what Harry says to Sirius... I can understand Harry's point of view as well. Again, it's not a complete picture of Sirius - just like Sirius doesn't paint a complete picture of Snape - but it does hit on some hurtful truths. Sirius wasn't really the best of guardian figures, and we see this in canon. Still, I felt awful for Sirius (just as I feel pretty bad for Snape, who had similar things said about him by Sirius). To be told by Harry to "go to hell", considering he just came back from beyond the veil... that was really painful. Someone will need to be there for him now - Remus, most likely - so that he doesn't feel completely cut off and unloved. And of course I feel bad for Harry too, that he's again confronted by his deeply buried resentments both towards Snape's past treatment of him and Sirius's behavior as a godfather. I like how you're making this so realistic - it just wouldn't feel right if Harry were to get over his pain 100%. And his desire to get away from all of them - all of these imperfect adults who made a mess of things at one point or another - came across really strongly. So, good job with the painful but strangely delicious angst :) Keep it coming! I can see more hugs and serious talks from Snape, self-recrimination, doubts and rage, Sirius getting drunk or possibly suicidal, and Remus caught in the middle of it again as the peacemaker. Though come to think of it, it could even be said about Remus that he wasn't always there for Harry, as during Goblet of Fire when he pretty much disappeared from the boy's life... Author's Response: Hi Esther! Glad to see you around here again. Thanks for the review. Yeah, ouch is so very right. I'm glad you can look at this objectively though. Sirius does have a very valid point. Unfortunately, he didn't go about broaching the subject the right way at all. And Harry has a point as well. None of these guys are looking at the complete picture of course, well except for Harry and Severus and one another's points of view, because as you said, they've hashed this out oa few times before. Sirius was definitely affected by what Harry said, especially the realization that Harry harbors anger and resentment toward him. That's got to sting. I"m glad you're enjoying the realism of this. Unfortunately, in real life, issues like these just don't go away and I think it's pretty reasonable to have them cropping up more than once. Harry is no where near being healed after so many years. Hopefully, the adults in his life will be able to sort themselves out before Harry implodes. LOL "painful but strangely delcious angst". It's funny how much we all enjoy a good dose of angst. Oh yeah, and yep, poor Remus isn't blameless at all. Wonder when that will come up? ;o) Thanks so much for reviewing!
Author's Response: Thank Kirsty! LOL Don't worry, I:o) have a life either. Don't worry though, I don't smooth. Thanks for the review and glad you enjoyed the chapter. :o)
Sirius never learns his lesson, does he? Poor Harry! I really love how much Severus has learned how to temper his and emotions and control his anger, for Harry's sake. How can Sirius not see how much he cares about Harry? Author's Response: Thanks Pandora! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and thanks for letting me know, both here and on the board. And no, Sirius is a bit thick-headed. LOL Well, Sirius really thinks Severus is evil so it's not too far-fetched that he thinks Severus is acting for some devious purpose. :o)
I am anxious to see what happens when Sirius wakes up. If he really did influence Harry's behaviour and his drinking firewhisky; I could just imagine him trying to undermine Severus's authority at every turn, and try to get Harry to do things that Severus would not approve of. I can't wait for Sirius to wake up; the fireworks are gonna fly. Author's Response: Thanks Pandora! I'm so glad you're enjoying the story. Sirius will have a lot to say next chapter. And LOL about him trying to undermine Severus. Sirius would never do that. *detect sarcasm* :oP Thanks for the review. :o)
amazing and really lovely. and my prayers were listened to, ginny was mentioned :-))))) hug u, Author's Response: Thanks Lola. I'm glad you liked the chapter. And yep, there will be more Ginny coming up as well. We all love Ginny, don't we? :o) Thanks for the review.
As always, a stunning job, milady:) If I were chasing after someone, you know it would be Severus. I'd give you a 20 but they only allow me to rate you a 10:) Author's Response: LOL Well, I'll take the 20 anyway. *places the extra 10 in my pocket* Glad you liked the chapter. And yeah, you and me both are going after Sev. :o) |
