Loved the Christian reference. I'm a Christian; I actually put off reading the HP books until college because of all the debate of them. I read six and part of the seventh my first semester! (DH was due back to the library. I haven't been able to check it out this summer because I'm staying in Africa, where my parents are missionaries. But I will finish it first chance I get!) Bottom line: there's a difference between real magic and pretend magic!Wonderful chapter. Harry did desserve the mouthwash; although it sounds awful.
Author's Response: I'm RC myself, and I've never found anything subversive or evil in the HP series and JKR herself says that her wizards believe in God, Draco says "oh my God" and they celebrate Christian holidays at school. The books are really about a hero quest and they're fun to read. I have an interesting debate between Severus and Alaina in Growing Pains about God and Merlin, in case you haven't read it. As for Harry, he did indeed deserve that mouthwash, and well he knows it. It must be neat to live in Africa, that's one place I've never been.
Lovely chapter. Soap in the mouth is always a good cure.
I am glad that Severus reminded Harry that everyone who was sorry got forgiven - but first, you have to be sorry.
Author's Response: Exactly, you need to be sorry and mean it, otherwise forgiveness is meaningless. And Harry knows that, and I'm sure he forgives Severus for punishing him.

Well, if Harry were my child, he'd be getting a bar of soap right there. No child should ever swear at an adult, no matter how mad they are, that's just plain disrespectful and I can't stand it. But this was a great chapter, by the way!
Author's Response: You're right. My mom or dad would have done the same thing.

Poor Harry. I would have trouble writing with a quill too, I'm sure. Malfoy's a bully, too, although Harry did desserve a detention. I imagine he'll be scrubbing cauldrons or writing lines; but it's hard to say. Snape can be pretty unpredictable.
Author's Response: I did try and write with a quill and ink when I went to Williamsburg VA and it is damn hard. They make it look so EASY in the movies and it isn't not at all! It takes months of practice, according to the person they had demonstrating. No wonder it took so long to write letters back in the colonial times here in the US and why the fountain pen was looked upon as a major breakthrough. Malfoy is the classic bully, but Severus will starighten him out one of these days. As for Snape's detention, it's coming up in the next chapter.

Please please update soon! I do think Sev shouldn't have said that to harry, but what harry said was far worse.
Author's Response: Yes, they both lost their tempers and said things they didn't really mean.

Sound like Harry could use some temper controling lessons, great chapter.
Author's Response: He could indeed that's always been one of his major problems, he has no self-control and is very impulsive.

It would be good if Severus were to realize that Harry is only an eleven year old boy who had to put up with abuse guardians for his entire life. THe fact that Severus's attitude changes constantly, even if Harry understands why it has to be that way, is a little much for such a child. I think that a good parent, which Severus clearly WANTS to be, not only constantly pushes a child to live up to THEIR expectations but also tries to understand where the child is coming from. Mindlessly yelling at Harry, or smacking him (though you PROMISED this wouldn't be a cp fic) isn't going to do any good besides from making Harry think that he has to live up to the Potions Masters expectations all over again or he will be thrown away like he was at the Dursleys. Yeah, Harry blew up and said things he shouldn't have, but Snape is old enough to realize that Harry was a) provoked and b) has little reason to trust any adults judgment, and Snape has to be unfair to him. Merely telling Harry that he must be unfair for safety reasons is not enough for a little neglected and abused boy to feel secure in his guardian angel.
If anything, Snape deserves a good smack just as much as Harry.
Author's Response: Don't worry, Severus will listen to Harry's side in the next chapter and he will be very angry at Malfoy for starting this fight. And there won't be any CP in this, aside from an occasional light smack every now and then. However Snape is a strict disciplinarian, so he will punish Harry for swearing at him, regardless of the reason behind it. Sev is by no means a perfect parent, or even sure he can be, and this setting is difficult for them both, neither can show how they really feel, they always have to hide, and there will be misunderstandings on both sides. But Severus will always be there for Harry and he will makes sure that Harry knows it and that he is loved.
awww! poor harry... i think that the waiting will be worse than the punishment. i hope snape won't be too hard on him... i hope he'll get the full story of the quarrel and perhaps give harry some help (in his own stern way) with dealing with his temper and with malfoy... and damn it, he owes harry a hug!
Author's Response: Harry will get to tell his side of things and yes, he will also get a hug . . ..after his punishment, of course!

Uh oh! Now he's in for it! I remember last chapter, when Harry said he was glad he was too old to spank, well Sev might just change his mind. And Malfoy ought to get in trouble too, the little snot! I loved how Ron and Hermione bickered and I hope Harry can get the eye surgery. Of course, he has to survive Snape's detention first.
Author's Response: he might . . .then again, he might do something worse! Malfoy will also be getting in trouble once Severus finds out what he said about Lily. harry's eye surgery . ..we shall see, no pun intended.
I think Sev was counting to a hundred in his mind trying not to put the boy over his knees. Harry realises that Severus is starting to see him as a son and Harry is starting to think of him as a dad, with this in his mind I think Harry is forgetting himself and forgetting that Sev is a teacher. While Draco did rile him Harry was rude and deserves to be punished and I know Sev will punish him but will he punish him like any other student or will he punish him like he would his son. Harry knows that he is wrong he might feel badly and realise for himself that he was rude the man who loves him and who took care of him and might be afraid that Sev will no longer treat him like that and that he has spoilt a great relationship; his guilt should make him miserable and Sev should notice that the boy does feel guilty
Author's Response: Yes, Severus was practicing a great deal of control there, I think it shocked him that Harry could totally speak to him with such disrespect, even given the circumstances. As for Sev's punishment, you'll see next chapter. Harry does feel extremely guilty for talking to him that way, and Severus will realize that next chapter as well.
