Oh, being late to Potions isn't going to get the year started off well, is it? Poor Harry, I suppose if things with Severus get too rough, he can always just leave Hogwarts, go to live at Grimmauld Place, and become a Quidditch player, lol!

I highly doubt that you would actually have Harry do that, but it is kind of interesting to me to imagine how this year at Hogwarts might be. I can see, just besides the expected tension with Severus, that in some ways it might be hard for the kids...the Trio in particular, but maybe some others like Dean Thomas who were out of school for the past year, surviving on their own, handling responsibilities that really shouldn't have been forced upon them...and now it might not be quite so easy to just 'be kids' again. I could definitely imagine Harry, when things are bad with Severus, truly having doubts about whether he wants to stay and put up with it all, cause he really doesn't have to. He has a house and all the money from the Potters and the Blacks, not to mention the gratitude of the Wizarding World. His main reasons for coming back to Hogwarts are to be with his friends, because he thinks of the school as a home, and because he wants to be an Auror. But if he became unhappy enough at Hogwarts, leaving might be tempting.

I know you've said you want to stay as close to canon as possible, so is Ron planning to become an Auror, too? I know JKR said that both Harry and Ron became Aurors, but if Ron is going to be one in your story, he would need to be in Potions, too, wouldn't he? Otherwise, Harry would probably drop out as well.

I'm asking because although I think Harry and Ron would do very well as Aurors and that is canon, I've always thought that Harry would have been a great instructor. He's talented at Defense, and at teaching (his work with the DA comes to mind). He seemed to enjoy teaching, too. I always thought that he settled on being an Auror almost by default. The other career options he and his friends were reading about didn't sound interesting. He was being targeted by Voldemort and DEs so he wanted to try to be as prepared as possible. And he was 15 and being an Auror probably sounded fun and exciting. But I've always imagined that as Harry grew older and matured, and once Voldemort was gone and he wasn't being targeted anymore, that he might re-consider his career choice.

Oh, well, whatever you want to do is fine, of course. I think I was mostly just rambling and musing aloud (well, not aloud, lol) in that last paragraph. It's just that I can see Harry (and maybe some of the others) doing a lot of re-thinking and changing their opinions on many different things this year. It's a whole new world now!

I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

    Author's Response:

Well basically, in Canon Ron didn't take Potions in year six, if I recall correctly.  I don't think that his marks were good enough were they?  Please correct me if I'm wrong.  The only reason Harry got in at all, was because Snape was not the instructor.

Yes, Harry has some hard decisions to make, but I don't think that he would leave Hogwarts, because Ginny is only still in sixth year, and as bad as things are with Snape, there will come a time when he will need Snape, even if Harry would be hard-pressed to admit it.

As much money as Harry has from the Potters and the Blacks, I don't think that he would leave Hogwarts at this point.  He is just feeing too disconnected and alone right now.  It is even worth it to put up with Snape's crap, to feel that his is part of a family and still has a home.  Seventeen may techinically be the legal age in the Wizarding world, but Harry is still just bascially a kid, that like you pointed out, had to grow up way too fast.  Grimauld Place I don't think would be an option either, as it holds too many painful memories of Sirius, and whatnot.

You are right about one thing though, He wanted to be an Auror because he felt there wasn't another career that he would be interested, but just because Harry defeated Voldie doesn't mean that all will be peaceful.  That would just be too easy, wouldn't it! I have plans....

Sorry I've fallen behind, but this is a lovely chapter! I grinned at Minerva giving Dumbledore his orders at the beginning, and you write Harry and Ginny very well. Of course Ginny is a bit overwhelmed at learning everything, but I'm glad she's there for Harry, too. I have a feeling Harry's going to need her support.

    Author's Response:

Oh thank you!  I love the banter between Dumbledore and Minvera.  She's gotta keep him in line!

Oh yes, Harry is definitely going to need Ginny's support soon!  I adore Ginny and Harry together, and I guess that I see them as being soulmates, like they were always meant to be together.

Thank you for your kind words, and taking the time to review. It means alot to me, and I can't wait to read YOUR next update of Slave Child...hint...hint!  ;)

Aww, isn't Ginny lovely? I am glad that poor Harry has someone he can rely on unequivocally. She was shocked and concerned, yes, but not angry.

It seems that DD is the bad guy in your story and I can't see Harry ever forgiving him. You've made him the master manipulator, only interested in Harry as a means to an end. Or so Harry thinks anyway.

Great chapter. Loved the interaction with Harry and Ginny. I loved that Mrs Weasley cares for Harry as much as ever, even though one of her sons died in the battle of Hogwarts.

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

I was thinking about you when I wrote that chapter Lesley!  I know that you were worried that Ginny wouldn't be a part of Harry's life, and I wanted to dedicate almost a whole chapter to show how strong their feelings are for each other.

Actually Lesley, with the way that Snape is acting towards Harry, Harry's forgivness towards Dumbledore may not be so far-fetched!  Harry might be starting to feel just a little more compassion towards Dumbledore at this point. After what happens in the NEXT chapter, Harry may be running up to DD's office pretty quickly to tell him that he understands why he kept them apart from each other and lied about their relationship.

Oh Harry is like a son to Mrs. Weasley, and the poor dear is just heart-broken.  I hope to have more of the Weasley's in future chapters.  I just haven't gotten that far in my thinking yet!

Thank you so much for taking the time to review MY story, when you are so busy writing your two!  Speaking of which, I'm just hungry for a chappie of Shocking Discovery!  Any plans yet?  Oh, of course Muggle on ffnet, would be nice too!  You already know how much I love YOUR stories!  ;)

What a moment to stop *grumbles* So, how long will we have to wait for the first Potions lesson? I am really curious. Mila

    Author's Response:

Potions class?  Yes...well...that will be interesting to say the least!  Maybe not in a good way!  Thanks for reviewing!

Oh, I liked this Ginny of yours. A nice chapter! Mila

Author's Response: Oh thank you Mila, and I loved your last chapter too!  Yeah, Ginny really cares about Harry, and he is lucky to have her as well as Hermione and Ron.

Snape's reasonably in character; Harry is not. Him in tears because Snape won't acknowledge him? Hugely unlikely.

    Author's Response:

Well, he's not really in tears, is he?  His eyes were just moist, and there is such a thing as tears of frustration.  I think that he WOULD be disappointed and frustrated in Canon as well.  Everytime he finds a father-figure, he loses him.  First Sirius, then Lupin, and even Dumbledore in a sense, although maybe he was more of a mentor/grandfatherly type of figure, but nevertheless Harry is all alone AGAIN.  As bad as the Dursely's were, he still had somewhat of a family, and a home.  Even if he didn't consider it that in his heart.  Harry was doing something that he thought Snape would have wanted, and he thought that his mother would have wanted this, only to have the whole thing fall apart!

Also, Harry is not just sad because of Snape.  He has lost so many people he has cared about.  Remus, Tonks, Fred, Madeye, Sirius, and even Colin.  He just thought that maybe bringing Snape back could somehow give him something that he missed. So when I say that Harry was choking back tears, I mean that it has all just caught up with him. After all, think about everything the poor kid has been through just since he was born!

    oh my gosh
poor harry he was really expecting snape to be teh guy he was years ago...he had completely forgotten everything snapes been through and healing it requires. ..

Author's Response: You know Missy, that is really the crux of the matter.  Snape has been through a very traumatic experience himself, and everyone is forgetting this!  He can't just suddenly be someone else.  He has been conditioned to be hard, strong and keep his emotions to himself.   He needed to be tough to survive.  After all, he has witnessed some horrible things as a Deatheater.  A weaker person would have fallen apart.  Harry is still very young and naive in some ways, even though he has lived through some horrific experiences.  But they both need time.  Harry has to be patient, but that is not easy for him!  At least he has the support and love of his friends, and Ginny.

    omg brilliant chapter

this totally needs to be updated soon! Poor, Harry, I wonder what Snape has in store for him!

    Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your kind words!

Yes, well Snape has alot in store for Harry, unfortunately, it's not all good!  Aw, but Minerva is working on him, and you can never underestimate the power of a Gryffindor!

Hey Dawn. Finally gotten around to reading some of your story.

Great chapter. I was surprised to see that you had Kingsley as interim MoM, and of course I didn't see your A/N i=until I had finished reading the chap. Good job...I really like Kingsley.

Loved HArry's introspection ab out everything, especially Ginny. Wonder if she is going to give him a hard time. It was funny poor HArry had to leave the dorm because our young lovers were busy behind the curtains!

The interrogation scene was great and Minerva's appeal to Sev was expected, but boy, has she ever given him a huge workload or what?

Why did he feel that Minierva had given him no choice but to succumb to her entreaties? Was it the appeal to be there for 'his' Slytherins?

Really enjoyed this. Will get onto the next two chaps ASAP. Can't wait to see H/G and more of Sev/Harry.

    Lesley

    Author's Response:

Thanks!  I take all my reviews very seriously, and I wanted the story to be as close to Canon as possible, so when you pointed out my little blunder, I just had to go change it.  To tell you the truth, I like the change.  I've always liked Kingsley too, so I'm thankful that you pointed out that Scrimgeour was dead.  It has been quite a while since I've read the books that I'd completely forgotten.

I think that Sev's motivation in accepting Minerva's offer to be Headmaster, has alot to do with his pleasure that Minerva has offered him something that he always felt lacking before, respect!  After all..in offering him so much responsibility, Minerva has given him the message that she believes in his loyalty, and she is placing her trust in him.  Also, I think that in the past, Sev has always felt that his authority was undermined by Dumbledore and this has always been a sore spot for him.  Yes, he can also help his Slytherins as well, by being in a position of power.  Of course for Harry, Snape's postion of authority could spell trouble!  He won't have Dumbledore there to smooth things over for him anymore.  Perhaps that was another appealing aspect to accepting this position as well!  Harry better be a good little boy!  (As if!)

You are doing a fine job in keeping this as close to canon as possible. It's believable, and enjoyable, and please keep up the good work!
Couple small things to clear up, though:
While the phrase is pronouced the way you spelled it, it is Latin, and therefore spelled "PER SE", not 'per say'.
In the next paragraph, after the mention of Narcissa, "...in their last DUEL to the death", rather than 'dual'.
    Terrific job of writing!

    Author's Response:

Thank you, I am trying very hard to keep Snape in character, even if it is not the way most people want to see him.

Oh yes, now that I see it written, I realise that you are right!  Ooopps...I'll go change it!  Thanks!  Latin obviously is not my strong suit!
