If the prophecy is a fake, why bother?

Author's Response: Because, even though Severus , Dumbledore, and Harry know the prophecy is false, no one else, including Voldemort does.  It's an opportunity to get some DE arrested and/or killed resisting arrest and maybe even nail Voldemort. He might not die permanently when his body does, but he'll be out of commission for a long while, which will give them time to go and hunt for Horcruxes.

Nice chapter. I loved it when Severus broke Sirius' nose!!

Author's Response: Thanks, yeah that was some punch.  But Sirius was lucky, given Snape's knowledge of boxing, he could have put Sirius in the hospital.

Ah, me! Well, there will never be any hope of Harry caring for DD again. Why did you ahve to make him culpable in the deaths of Lily and James, I wonder? Me thinks you do not like DD. I cannot see the advantage of making DD the bad guy, other than making Harry loathe him and therefore make him come to rely more on Severus.

what did he hope to achieve by creating a false prophecy? It was obviously not the deaths of Lily and James. As you said, DD did not realise that the Potters and Longbottoms were due to give birth at the end of July. And there are horcruxes in your story, so it would have been pointless ambushing and killing Volde.

    Questions, questions, questions!

Fawkes was great. I had a feeling he might relise that there was much more to Freedom.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Not necessarily, Harry has forgiven many things in the past.  This was to put a new twist on the old prophecy, and also to show that even the greatest mind can make a huge blunder.  This is DD's big guilty secret, instead of the Grindelwald conspiracy in DH.  The reason for the false prophecy was " but sought a way to buy time, he was moving too fast and we could not protect all the Muggles and Muggleborns or blood traitors he was targeting. You remember, you were reporting back a raid almost every night back then . . .and sometimes multiple ones in the same day or week. The Order could not handle all the attacks, nor protect everyone and people were dying every time I turned around . . .You nearly died when he found out you had been involved with Lily in your fifth year, Severus. . . He had always been obsessed with prophecy, even as a student. It was his weakness. He wanted to believe it was destiny foretold for him to rule Britain, or eventually the world. I thought if I played upon that weakness, exploited it, he would be made vulnerable . . .I wanted him thrown off balance, made afraid, that's why Sybill and I concocted the prophecy in the first place."

At the time, DD did not know of the Horcruxes.  No one did.  That was Voldemort's failsafe.  DD only suspected after Voldemort's supposed demise and the rumors that he wasn't truly dead, the belief that the DE had that someday he would rise again.  It was only much later that Dumbledore gained proof that Voldemort had created Horcruxes.

And even with the Horcruxes, destroying Voldy body will set him back for a good long time, it took him eleven years to come back from the last time.  That's the whole key to defeating him, destroying the body and then destroying the soul in the Horcruxes.

Fawkes was a sudden addition to this, he appeared and said I want to be in it too, and so he became an advisor to Freedom/Harry.

Great chapter. Poor Freedom/Harry. All those revelations leading to such confusion of feeling and then not being able to totally ignore his new knowledge.

You answered most of my queries with this chapter, so I will shut up about how Broken Wings differs from canon.

I will say that Freedom's new knowledge has not improved his feelings towards DD. Of course, he was out of sorts with DD in his 5th year but does Harry really think that DD would allow Umbridge to take over the school if there was anything he could do about it?

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

That's true, he can't ignore what he remembers or hears anymore and it's bound to alter his perceptions.

I always wondered in canon, why Umbridge was allowed such free reign, and it never was really answered.  It always seemed like Fudge respected and was a bit afraid of Dumbledore, so he should have been able to convince the Minister to leave the school alone.  I have an idea as to why that toad wa sput in charge, but you'll have to wait till the next chapter.  A lot more will be revealed.

You know, I think this is my favourite chapter yet.

For some reason I absolutely despise Sirius Black in every other book save for The Prisoner of Azkaban. I certainly hated him in this chapter as well - but in a good way. He, like Ron, can be such an idiot when it comes to Slytherins. When's he going to realize that they are normal people like you and me? ::raises eyebrows questioningly::

My Internet is back! ::whoops for joy:: God, I love my Internet. I just about died without it.

::evil eyes:: You have an outline for my sequels? Excellent! So, here's the part where I start ranting at you to hurry up and FINISH Broken Wings so I can start READING MY SEQUELS!!! ::evil cackle::

I simply can't wait for more Wraith and Whisper and I wonder how you're going to present Philip...

Ok, ok. ::hands up in surrender:: I yeiled.

    Update soon, darling.

    Author's Response:

    Thanks!

yes Sirius and Ron share a good deal of the same prejudices towards Slytherins.  One wonders where Ron learned it though, since Molly and Arthur don;t seem the type to be prejudiced against Slytherins. Sirius hates Slytherins because he doesn;t want to be like some of his family, who are losers.

I know what you mean about dying without it.

es, i do have outlines and I am working hard on BW.

I'll discuss Phil with you more after BW is completed, i still have a few questions.

I should have the next cha[ter of this up tonight and then your Animagus question will FINALLY be answered!

I wonder why you had Wood still at Hogwarts in Harry's 5th year? He had left in Harry's fourth year. Angelina was captain.

And the memory of the exploding cauldron and the Polyjuice potion. Hermione was the driving force behind all of that, not HArry. He and Ron were very nervous, Hermione was the determined one.

Poor Freedom is very conflicted now. And feeling especially guilty for being part of the plan to steal the potion ingredients. Of course, the difference is that Malfoy stole to make life miserable for another student. HR&H stole in an effort to try and get to the bottom of a mystery that was causing problems at the school. But Freedom doesn't remember that bit.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

That question will be answered next chapter.  it's puzzling until Freedom learns what's been going on with Ron and Hermione.

yes, that event is not strictly canon here.  In this version, Harry actually encourages Hermione and Ron to help him get the ingredients.

yes, Freedom is very conflcited, as he should be, considering what he has to deal with.  He compares himself to Malfoy because he knows that stealing from Severus was wrong, and even when he remembers the whole incident, he will still feel guilty, because though it was done for a better reason than Malfoy, it was still not a good thing to do.  The ends shouldn't justify the means.  Poor Harry, his world and perceptions are being turned inside out and upside down.

And the same will happen to Severus too!
