You go Harry! As much as I like Sirius someone has needed to take him down a peg for ages. Just as a side note...I don't remember Kreacher actually helping much in OoTP, but heck it's your story...

Author's Response: Yes that's for sure and it's better coming from Harry, it'll have more of an impact.  Kreacher was ordered to help by Sirius, so he did, since he is bound to obey him.

OK, You replaced one idiot with another. Ron now Siri. and the old dog just may NOT be able to learn a new trick this time--unless Moony can shake some sense into him.

That conversation/arguement was very well crafted, by the way. I could feel the emotions rolling off of the page. Well done.

    V.

    Author's Response:

Yeah, sometimes it happens that way.  Moony will be lucky if Sirius listens to him.

Thank you, i try really hard to keep my dialogue believable and let my readers feel it.

Author's Response: Thanks very much.  I try really hard to keep my plot lines workable.  Please read more!

Loved the punishments, although it sounded a tiny bit like you are making it that many Slytherin children ahve a terrible relationship with their parents and that they are often physically abused. Crabbe is certainly scared enough to indicate that.

Knowing DEs it would be more likely to me that Carbbe Goyle and Malfoy seniors would be gunning for Snape because he dares to punish their kids when he is supposed to be one of them.

Stories that make Slytherins abused at home so Sev has to turn into their protector and the other teachers being totally prejudiced against all Slytherins do not turn me on, I am afraid. Canon Slytherins are on the whole horrible little sadists, cheats and liars. The Slytherin Quidditch team are an excellent case in point.

Anyway, I digress. The chapter was great, as usual. Loved the interaction between Sev and HArry hawk.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

Not all Slytherins are abused, but I rhink it's more likely the children of the Death Eaters are abused.  Crabbe is scared of his father, because he got into trouble at school for doing something to his Head of House, which is a really bad thing according to how I see the Death Eater mentality.  The parents would be angry and suspicious of Snape if he were punishing their kids for something they did to another student--say a Gryffindor--but this was an attack upon their Head another Slytherin--which is NOT a good thing.  I see Death Eaters as a cross between a terrorist cell, nazis, and the Mafia.  You don't attack your own , espcially not your leader, which is what they did==they stole from Severus, invaded his privacy, and harmed his familiar.  So I would say they are in HUGE trouble with their parents and they have a right to be scared.

Like I said before, not all Slytherins are abused, nor do I think all the teachers hate them.  I also disagree with the notion that all Slytherins are evil.  That's just not realistic.  In canon we always get to see the nasty ones, but there's more than just those few in that House.  And you can't say that 1/4th of the student body is bad.  Ambition is not a bad trait to have, half the world leaders have it and so do many successful people and that is not evil.  But it can be turned to evil, as can any trait.  Intelligence used the wrong way can be evil, so can loyalty to the wrong person or ideal, so can courage, if it's blind and unwavering.  The terrorists who blew up the World Trade Center were brave--suicidally crazy and brave--but they were EVIL.  I never understood why JKR had four Houses and said they were supposed to all be necessary and all needed to get along and yet never showed any Slytherins with good qualities, except Severus.  It didn't add up.  So this is my answer to that, there are good ones and bad ones--Crabbe, Severus, and a few others here I've shown to be decent representatives to balance out the ones like Malfoy and Goyle and Voldemort.  I also think there were Death Eaters from all the Houses--you just didn't hear of them, but that doesn't mean they weren't out there. Every House has dark and light, that's what I'm attempting to show here.

You'll see more interaction between Sev and Harry hawk later.

I just love your descriptions of Severus's seething anger and his thoughts in those first few paragraphs. Really beautifully written.

I wondered who would find Harry's books. Filch, huh...so no-one is going to make a connection there. Except one of the books is Dudleys'. Will that shelve itself, I wonder as it is a Muggle book.

Very moving chapter. I was rapt to see that Crabbe had gone back to tr and revive the bird...obviously in this story, he wouldn't be capable of casting a Fiendfyre curse. to try and murder people.

Glad your beagle recovered and I am glad that HArry hawk seems to be recovering also.

Snape's reminiscences are very sad. He definitely needs a friend...someone to care for.

Pointless me making suggestions about punishments because you have already written it. I hope what you did was good though, and I hope that you were a bit easier on Crabbe. I would say it would be really good to have Malfoy hanging upside down from a large perch, thrashing about helplessly. But of course Sev wouldn't be allowed to do that.
    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

I really liked how that part turned out too, and I wasn't even mad when I wrote it . . .but Severus was, so he helped me.  He can be very scary when he's mad.

Yes, it seemed logical Filch would find them when he cleaned, glad you picked up on that, some didn't.  As for Dudley's book, it won;t shelve itself, but maybe Madam Pince would keep it as a curiosity and wouldn't recognize the name in it either, so no connection to Harry would be made.

No, not this Crabbe, he has a totally different outlook.

Believe me, so am I! My poor Rocky, thank God he's okay.  I love him, he's my baby.

And I would never have Harry die, it'd be too sad.

Poor Sev, a friend is what he needs all right and it's what he'll get with his new familiar.

I like that idea, by the way, too bad it wouldn't be allowed.  That's another thing I hate--animal cruelty, I am a firm believer in animal rights too. That's why mostly all of my stories have animals in them.

I did get some very creative ideas in answer to that question though!

Oh, goody...Snape on the warpath--and against Slytherins! Surely Draco should have known that Severus would have protective wards around his lab.

Hagrid is great here. I am glad Severus had someone on his side at school. Though I am not one of the people who think Sev was just a target waiting to be hit. I think he would have given as good as he got, as far as he could considering it was often three on one. I don't believe Remus would have willingly joined in the bullying. I also think that Sev would have used much darker magic than the MAruaders. Sirius' terrible prank that could have led to death being the exception.

    Anyway, this is not canon.

    Great chapter.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

And oh, is he going to give it to them good! Draco should have, but he got cocky . . .and now he'll pay for it.

I love Hagrid and always felt he was underrepresented, so I've made him the wise mentor here, so Severus has someone to talk to and understand him.  It just seemed wise to me.

The bullying Marauders are andalways have been, a sore point with me, in canon.  I do agree that Lupin wouldn;t have participated actively in hexing or beating up Severus, i think the bullying was both physical and magical, but sometimes the worst wrong is to watch and do nothing, especially when you know it's wrong.  So he's guilty by association.  The three main perpetrators are  James, Sirius, and Peter, and while I think Severus could handle them okay one and maybe two on one--three on one when you're alone is too much for anyone and you'll end up getting pounded.  I'm speaking from pesonal experience here.  I was tormented for most of my elementary school days by a gang of bullies-boys and girls--popular, arrogant, ones with nothing better to do than pick on the less popular students, like me, the shy bookworm, and even though I knew a few self defense maneuvers, it didn't matter if someone's got your arms or legs pinned and is holding you down.  That description in Snape's Worst Memory made me detest James and Sirius big time--old memories were roused there--and I know what it's like to be in Sev's place.  I don't think the Marauders just played pranks on people--they might have said they did and Dumbledore might have thought that was all they were doing--but I highly doubt it.  And as for Severus knowing dark curses, I'm not following that line, it's just too convenient an excuse, like the old "All Italians are in the Mafia, or know someone" . . .it's prejudice, and I'm Italian American.  Not all Slytherins are bad just because some are evil.  "Well, we were only fooling" is a standard bully line, I heard it so many times and it was a lie.  I tend to think it was the same with the Marauders, they were awful at school but something made them change and grow up.

Wonder what it was . . .I have an idea that I put forth in this story as to why they changed, well Peter  didn't, but the others did.  And that's rare, it doesn't happen that way in RL.  I'd bet those who bullied me are still the same nasty people. Hopefully they don't have kids.

    Thanks!

Oh, poor Harry Hawk. I do sincerely hope Severus finds out about the illicit visitors and who they were. Draco got just what he deserved, but poor Harry suffered for his moment of fearful defiance.

If Draco could orchestrate the execution of an innocent hippogriff, then I imagine he would be cruel to all animals. He has lived up (or down really) to my expectations.

I am glad Crabbe wasn't naturally cruel.

    Still loving this.

    Lesley~

    Author's Response:

He will, they won't get away with it.

Poor Harry, he got more than he bargained for when he bit the brat.

Yes, Draco is a nasty kid here, with no empathy for an animal's suffering.

You'll see a different side of Crabbe, actually a different Crabbe, in this story.  I got tired of Draco always having  a pair of gorillas around with muscles and no sense.  I mean, they're supposed to be wizards and wizards should at least have some brains.  It kind of offends my sensisblities to have a dumb wizard, I grew up with Tolkien and Dragonlance, and though they might not be geniuses, they should at least be able to have minds of their own and be smarter than your average person.  But anyway . . .this is my take on Crabbe, very AU, but then so's the whole story.

    Thanks for your lovely reviews!

'Severus the Gentle'. Who'd a thunk?!

Beautiful descriptions of Sev's ministrations. I am surprised that the young bird can tolerate so many potions made strictly for humans though, even in the miniscule doses administered. You did mention though that raptors did not respond well to magical bone repair elixir. (skelegrow?)

I winced when Harry Hawk bit Severus but I had to laugh at Severus' dire threats.

I am glad to see that DD seems to be...well, Dumbledore.

    Still enjoying.

    wrappedinharry

    Author's Response:

I believe Sev can be very gentle if he chooses to be, and this is one time.

Since Harry is an Animagus, his system would be able to tolerate more than an ordinary hawk's.  The Bone Mend Elixir is similar to the Skelegrow, but a lesser version, so the hawk should tolerate it better.

Yes, Harry biting Severus was NOT fun.  I've been bitten by a parrot before and it HURTS.  Yes Sev's dire threats, what he says and what he means in this case are two different things.

Dumbledore is very much himself here, twinkle and all.

    Thank you!

Lovely start. Am looking forward to reading more. It seems that HArry has been abandoned by his friends. I know he is also distancing himself bu canon Hermione would never have let that happen.

Is DD going to be a bad guy in this, I wonder? will it just be Harry and Severus against the rest of the world, including, dD, Harry and Hermione? These aren't my favourite themes, I must admit, but your story is original and I do not yet know whether Harry will turn his back on everyone but Severus or whether they will turn against him.

    Onwards...

    wrappedinharry

    Author's Response:

    Hi,

Well, Harry thinks he's been abandoned by his friends.  Ron and Hermione have been a bit too wrapped up in themselves and Harry is a good enough actor to hide what he feels, so they didn't notice anything was really wrong.  Right now he's very depressed and thinking he is all alone and no one cares for him, and that's why he seek his Animagus form--because anything has to be better than this.

Dumbledore is not "bad" in this story, but he does have blind spots and good intentions that go wrong, very wrong, but you'll see that as the story progresses.  This story is mostly harry and Severus forging a relationship out of mistrust and resentment, but Ron and Hermione will be back in it eventually, they are still his friends, but Harry will also make a few new friends.

    Thank you for reading!

sulky child Sirius is lol. yum scones, XD reminds me of high school breakfast..makes me wants some...AHHH!!! Must not eat all that sugar though! lol anyway it's so frustrating when someone you really love doesn't understand your choice even after you explain it.

    Author's Response:

Yes he certainly is.  I love scones too . . .chocolate chip & orange cranberry are my faves.

Frustration is for sure! Poor Harry!
