This was so funny, I couldn't believe how horrible Harry's first class was! Those kids were nuts, trying to hex each other right in the classroom. Sheesh. I'm Glad Severus figured out Witherspoon was framed and that one of the true troublemakers got detention. I only wish Malfoy had been caught too, what a snot, blackmailing a little kid like that!

Though I’ve never been a teacher, I can sympathize with the illegible handwriting! When I was in elementary through junior high school, two of the boys in my class had the worst chicken-scratch. I swear it was so bad, that nowadays I can decipher just about anything! No joke :)

    Author's Response:

They really were, and some of them really ARE that bad.  I had one of the worst classes in history one year.  Severus is smart and he knows his Slytherins, so he could figure out what happened.  And it probably happened to him once too.  Malfoy will eventually pay for that piece of work.

I was continually mazed by how many kids couldn't write neatly, when i was in school, we got a grade for penmanship, and it counted as a fourth of our English grade, so we were carefully to learn how to at least PRINT neatly, as well as write in cursive.

But now kids type all their assignments, so that skill will be lost, I assume.  But at least the teachers don't need to go crazy any more trying to read something that looks like scribble.  The next chapter's coming in a few minutes.  Get ready for a major quarrel!

Poor Harry! I knew there was a reason I wasn't a teracher. Although at one point I wanted to teach Spanish & French.

    Great chapter :-)

    Author's Response:

Kids! They really CAN drive you over the edge.

I had  a hard enough time teaching English, so God only knows what I would have been like teaching a different language.  Though I might not have minded latin, since no one could correct your pronunciation too much.  But my cousin teaches Spanish to high school sophomores and doesn;t mind it . . .sometimes.

Poor Harry, looks like they ran him through the mill. But, guess it's to be expected. He did well though! Especially when he took points from both Houses. Loved it, as usual. can't wait till he gives Sirius hell.

    Author's Response:

    They did, but he survived!!

He tried to be fair and it worked . . .well mostly.

You won't be waiting anymore, because here it is!

ROFL! Sev's right--no firsties dies, the classroom (and the dungeons!) is in one piece--Harry did pretty well for his first time, especially for a fifteen-year-old. ::smirk::

My condolences, on teaching 7th grade English...! O.O It's bad enough driving the little rug-rats to and from school, and doing bus evacuation classes twice a year with 'em (it's SO unfair they won't let us use duct-tape...)--I can't imagine trying to cram knowledge into reluctant little skulls every day! ::shivers::

    Author's Response:

He did and Severus knows it.

I agree, I used to long to duct tape one little brat to his chair every period, he thought it was okay to go across the room and talk to his friend in the middle of my discussion group! It was really hard, that's why I'm not teaching right now! Plus in FL the pay was God awful!

Well, Harry certainly had an eyeopener for a first day! You protrayed that very well. I'm glad Severus was there to encourage him and he's still considering teaching as a career.

Great job and can't wait for the next part.

Author's Response: Thanks and I think harry will do well as a teacher, despite the mishaps the first day.

I understand the homework thing completely. I don't have to deal with essays much as they are not often given for Geometry, but grading 9th & 10th grade proofs are just as bad, I just can't understand their logic sometimes.

Great story by the way. This is one of the better "creature-fics" I've read. Keep it up!

Author's Response: Thanks.  I so hated homework grading, and my brother-in-law is  amath teacher and he complains all the time about the proofs his kids hand in, says it's like reading Chinese, sometimes, the way they write and make up things.  Thanks for reading!

Well, that Could Have Been MUCH Worse. No dead bodies is a good thing. (I remember the first time I took a group of High School Students into a Chem lab--It is my goal to Scare them Witless of the lab for safety sake.)

I do like how Sev handles Harry--He is getting much better at knowing what to say to his apprentice.

Looking forward to your next update.
    V.

    Author's Response:

I know EXACTLY what you mean.  You can't just tell kids not touch this or don't turn that on, because they're like--LETS DO IT ANYWAY and who cares if half the school blows up! Then we get to go home! One kid in my elementary school lit the woodshop on fire by using a band saw or a grinder to strike a spark off something metal, I think it was a pipe, and it landed in some sawdust and next thing you know there's a fire.  His excuse was "I wanted to see what would happen."

    Insane!

Sometimes kids NEED to be scared to death, so you don't end up with a dead child.

yes, Severus is learning how to talk to Harry a lot better.  Thanks for reviewing as always.

Ooh! Harry was cute as a teacher! SQUEEE! I love it! He always seemed like the type to teach.
I'm eagerly anticipating the angst. And the fluff that will naturally follow it, because you understand fluff needs to follow angst, right? *nudge, nudge, wink wink*

Author's Response: Yes, that's so.  Unless something else happens.  But you'll see.  Harry does seem like the trype and I think he would do well.

Wow, teaching sounds like hard work. I had wanted to be a teacher; of course that didnt' pan out, but I never really thought about how hard it would be to maintain order of thirty students!

I enjoyed seeing Harry handle the kids, and he'd make a great teacher. I have a question. Does Harry attend class himself anymore, or does he only get lessons from Sev and teach first years?

I'm anxious to see what happens with Voldie, and I hope that Dumbledore can come back soon.

I really like this chapter and how you showed the trials and tribulations of being a teacher, and the interaction of the Slytherins. I wish Draco would get in trouble for being the instigator of it all though . What a ferret!

Looking forward to the next chapter.

    Author's Response:

It's not as easy as it might seem, believe me.  Some days were good, but other days, I used to wish I had a garden hose.

yes, Harry does attend class, but his periods are shortened so he can also get tutored by Severus.  And since he's teaching, some of his professors allow him extra time to complete assignments too.

Dumbledore will make an appearance pretty soon.

Draco will get payback from someone for that, trust me.
