Reviews For Sparks Will Fly
Author's Response: Thank you. I'll try ot update soon.
Author's Response: Yeah, maybe it's not ideal for Harry to be placed with Snape, but at least he'll be treated humanely, and maybe Snape now sees him in a different light because it's obvious that he's not the spoilt, arrogant boy that he thought e was.
It's so sad, though completely understandable, that Harry sees adults as untrustworthy, even if he believes that they do care for him, as in the case of Dumbledore. And what's even more tragic is that he has no reason to trust adults at this point. They have always failed him, either intentionally, or by missing the signs of abuse. Most of the adults around Harry have let him down, in big and small ways. I like your Dumbledore. Of course he should have done more to watch out for Harry, but he did not deliberately subject him to abuse. And I just love your Severus here, too. He doesn't want to change his feelings and beliefs about Harry, but he can't ignore the evidence before him and he's beginning to change in spite of himself. I hope that the two of them can help one another heal. As stated earlier, Harry needs to have an adult that is trustworthy, someone who cares for him, protects him and...dare I say it?...loves him. Severus' needs are not quite as obvious, perhaps, but he too needs someone in his life. I think Severus needs to be needed. Maybe I'm crazy, but I do think, if he could only open his heart and take a chance on caring for someone again, that he would be a wonderful care-taker. Severus needs to care for someone. He needs forgiveness, and he needs some joy in his life. I think Harry could give him all that in return. I'm so looking forward to chapter 3! Author's Response: You give such lovely reviews Kristeh. Thank you so much. It's really going to take awhile for Severus to see Harry in a different light. The proof is right in his face, but he's fighting it all the way. He's got some big surprises coming his way, and he's going to be forced to totally examine his preconceptions of Harry.
I wanted to show Dumbledore a little more caring in this story. Dumbledore has his faults, but I really don't believe in Canon that had he know the extent of Harry's neglect and abuse, that he would have just stood by and let it happen. At least I hope not! I really love writing a younger Harry too because he is that much more vulnerable and needs to be cared for. I always thought that Harry looked so vulnerable, young and innocent in the POA movie. He wanted a family so badly, and Marge treated him so horriblly. I think that that movie really hit home to me how Harry was really alone. It made me very sad. He came so close to having a home with Sirius, only for it to be pulled away from under his feet. It was really heartbreaking. It's going to take time, but I'm hoping that at least in this story I can give him all the love and caring he deserves. Of course, I terribly evil and I'll put him through the wringer first!! :)
Yeah, I think that having Harry to care for will give Severus a purpose in his life, but of course he'd never believe that at first.
Okay, I'm going to work on the two stories this weekend. Now I've just got to get myself moving.
Author's Response: Thanks so much! :)
Author's Response: Thank you so much. (Blushes again)
Author's Response: Thanks. I don't think that Snape is quite sure of WHAT he's feeling. I'll try to work on it this weekend.
Author's Response: Yeah, it's hard to strike a balance between him being abused and not getting too graphic about it. Thanks.
Author's Response: Thank you so much. (Blushes)
Author's Response: Thank you.
I love this idea. So many stories begin at the end of 5th year or 6th year...which almost seems like a natural place to start a better relationship with Severus and Harry cause of Occlumency and Sirius' death...but it is always interesting to see a story begin at another point. I'm glad that Remus and Sirius will be a part of it all ,too. Liked the beginning. I thought you captured Harry's tough vulnerability very well. He's frightened, but courageous enough to break away and risk having a new life...though some of that may just be desperation, too. Aunt Marge...what a horrible woman. I never could stand her in canon and I'm glad she got what she deserved. Though her role is small, she's one of the most thoroughly disagreeable characters in the series. Hmm, would be fun to see an Aunt Marge/Umbridge showdown, lol. I liked how Severus was perceptive enough to see the truth about Harry, that he was abused, and was willing to help him. Looking forward to the next chapter! Author's Response: You didn't have to write another review Kristeh, but I am so pleased that you did, because I always enjoy discussing the story with you. I'm glad that you like a younger Harry. I specifically wrote him in third year, because the story revolves quite a bit around Sirius as well, and I wanted to play around with Canon a bit. It's sort of a "what if" kind of story. I'm sure it's been done before, but I still wanted to try my hand at it. I thought that it would be fun to shake things up a bit. I think it could be fun to have Sirius and Severus thrown together against their wills, in a situation where they have to interact with each other daily. Thus the name of the story, "Sparks Will Fly". Unfortunately, poor Harry will be caught in the middle, even though the whole point of them being thrown together in the first place, is so that Harry doesn't have to choose between the two of them. I really like the idea of having Sirius playing a major part in Harry's life, and of course I'm in love with the whole "Snape is Harry's father" theme, and I saw a bit of how it could be when at the end of Tabitha's story "Crucio", she had them living together. While in her story, Sirius was Harry's main caregiver, and Snape didn't really have emotional ties to Harry, I still thought at the end of the story, how much I would love to see them having to all live in the same house, but with a twist, They BOTH care about Harry and want what's best for him, even though it will take Snape awhile to realise that. When he does though, he will try to hold on jealously to Harry, but so will Sirius. Anyway, I'm rambling here, but it was Tabitha's story that made me want to do this one. Oh and the way that Jade and Tabitha both write Sirius, just made me want to explore him as a character, even though I was never really interested before. Oh, and we definitely need sweet Remus as a referee!!!
Oh yes poor Harry. I didn't want to portray him as broken, just a little vulnerable, while still keeping the strength that makes him such a remarkable boy. I want Harry to be strong, brave and proud in this, but also still a child who needs someone to care for them and craves the affections of an adult that finally can really provide him with stability, proper care, and affection. That is really why I wanted Sirius in this. Snape and Sirius will balance each other out, and provide Harry with everything that he's been denied for so long. Yeah Marge is a cow!! She'll get hers though. (Hee hee--no hints yet!!) OMG Umbridge and Marge!! Now that would be too funny. But the pink cow doesn't come along for another two years, so maybe in another story!! Severus can spot an abuse child a mile away, because he himself was one. I wanted also to keep Snape in character, while see him struggling to maintain that hard facade, even though inside he's feeling anything but indifferent at seeing an abused Harry. Seeing Harry look so fragile and vulnerable, is really playing havoc with his pre-conception of him. It is hard to see Harry as an arrogant spoilt child who looks so much like his arch-nemesis, when that child looks at you with those haunting green eyes, so much like Lily's, and one of those green eyes in swollen shut and bruised, and that same child is painfully thin and has such a hint of sadness about him. Oh my, this is turning into a novel!!!
Thanks again for reviewing Kristeh. Tabitha has next chapter, and I will post it as soon as she has time to look at it. |
