Reviews For Alea Iacta Est
I liked the description of Severus' library. It sounds like a perfect place to spend a peaceful afternoon. Perhaps Severus will agree to let Harry show it to Hermione some time too...she would think she'd died and gone to Heaven! Great idea of Severus' to have Minerva change to her cat-form to explain to Flurry. Wonderful job again! Author's Response: Thanks! I think if Harry didn't feel awkward and uncertain it would be unrealistic, especially considering he's a guy and not used to expressing any of his emotions besides anger. Harry and Sev really are alike in that way. Sev's library would be an amazing room to have. I'd love to have a place like that to spend a peaceful afternoon. Hopefully, Harry will be well enough to get some use of it soon. I think once Severus gets used to Hermione, he'll agree to let Harry show her the library. Writing that cat scene was probably the scene I've had the most fun writing so far. I could totally picture little Flurry in my head being lectured.
Author's Response: I'm sure Sev wanted to say it out loud, but his concern for Harry held him back. He knew that Harry deserved to know first. Thanks!
Author's Response: Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Harry's reaction is in the next chapter that I posted late last night.
I couldn't wait to see what would happen between Severus and Dumbledore, and you provided a superb chapter. I was waiting for Severus to get back to Harry so he could tell him that he is Harry's father, but you ended it too soon. Noo!! ;-} I guess that means that I'll just have that much more to look forward to in the next chapter. ;-} I think that Sev was very wise in saying that Minerva was to included in the meeting with Dumbledore. I have no doubt that Dumbles is not going to go down or let go of his control of Harry without a fight. I love the story, and can't wait for the next chapter. ;-} Leilia Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the showdown between Sev and Dumbledore. You weren't the only one waiting for Sev to return and tell Harry, but it deserved its own chapter and I didn't want the scene rushed at the end of a chapter. Sev was very wise to include Minerva in the inevitable meeting. It's always good to have someone to watch your back, plus it does concern Minerva as well.
I liked this chapter, especially the part, in the Order meeting, where Dumbledore and Snape try to manage the other using Legilimency and Occlumency... Looking forward to the next chapter. Author's Response: It wouldn't be a very good battle between the two if they didn't employ all their talents. Plus, Sev was trying to keep Harry's parentage under wraps to everyone else since he hadn't told Harry yet. Thanks!
Yay! You updated! When I saw it I literally started cheering and my mom had to ask me what I was doing. lol But this was a wonderful chappie! ^_^ Go Severus, go! You tell that rotter who's who (literally). I was hoping he'd just hex ol' Dumbles, but that wouldn't have looked very good in front of everyone. But at least Minerva stood up to help Snape a few times. And Moody was all up in Albus's face there, being all suspicious and all. I LOVE that Severus left the place all crazy. I always love imagining Snape walking out all dramatically. (probably why I do it a lot in my stories. lol) But omg! I wanted Severus to tell Harry they were father and son SO bad in this! I was just waiting for it. My rational side tells me that it really couldn't have happened just quite yet as you set up all these lovely circumstances, but my insane side just keeps screaming about how I want to know what happens next. (Don't you hate that?) But if I had to guess, I'd think Harry would freak a bit, try not to believe it, then maybe accept it since Sev's gunna still look after him and he'll see just how great Snape really is and had been and realize that the PM was so good to him even when he didn't know Harry was his son. I HOPE HARRY ACCEPTS SNAPE!! That would be major sad if he didn't...but it would make for some lovely drama and then Harry could always accept Sev later...but I'm just thinking too much now. Wonderful chappie Ella! I devoured this the moment I saw it was updated, and it was great. ^_^ I can't wait for the next chapter!! And thanks for the lollipop! How'd you know I like those? :D Author's Response: LOL. That's so funny that you literally started cheering to the point that your mom had to ask what you were doing. Sev is more subtle than to just walk in and hex Dumbledore. He'd rather have a dramatic exit than entrance. ;) I know you were waiting for it, but it really deserved its own chapter. You didn't have to wait too long either. I'm curious to see what you think. Everyone likes lollipops. Well, almost everyone, so it was a good guess. Thanks!
Author's Response: Thanks! Yeah, Molly will be on Harry's side. She's always been more concerned for her children than the overall war effort, which brings some balance to canon. I'm sure Dumbledore didn't get a respite once Molly returned. Perhaps at one point we'll hear about what happened. If anyone could reduce Dumbledore to take a scolding like a child, it would be her.
Severus definately doesn't know how to handle himself with the prospect of being nice to Harry's friends, hehe. "Severus rolled his eyes. Did Weasley think he was able to assign detentions and take house points during the summer? Not that the Potions Master minded he had that effect on his students at all, but it was rather annoying when he was left with the mess to clean up. But wait, Mr. Weasley was no longer just a student to him. He was Harry's friend, his son's friend, which meant that Severus needed to at least be courteous and civil with the rather uncoordinated teen if he wished to remain in his son's good graces." Yeah, Ron is rather uncoordinated, now that I think about it. "Mr. Potter will not be ready to face the Dark Lord anytime soon as you know, Albus. I suggest you find an alternative, one that has adults fighting an adult war," That's so true, I wish someone HAD told Dumby that in the books, it seemed that Harry was only a fighting machine to some people, including Albus. The Headmaster refused to take the hint and so the Potions Master sent the image of Harry on his hands and knees on the stone floor, vomiting into the basin as Severus held his shaky body up. Dumbledore fled his mind and slumped in his chair, his eyes cast downward. " That serves Dumby right, most definately. "Hand over your wand," Moody maneuvered around the table until he was in front of Dumbledore. "A simple spell will take care of the accusation against you." I so wish that Moody had checked, and then they would all see Dumby's manipulation as well as his lie. "He's doing well," Minerva backed him up as interested eyes turned to her. "I was with Harry earlier to help with a Transfigurations lesson." Why the heck, didn't she say anything a bit earlier,eh? I suppose she had to wait for the right moment. "Besides, we have more important things to discuss considering our spy let himself be discovered." That was it. Severus refused to allow the Headmaster to get away with that last comment. "If I hadn't followed Potter and his friends to the Ministry, we'd be dealing with overcoming the loss of those children! Tell me, Albus, what would we do then without the supposed chosen one?" The Potions Master sprang up from his chair, his hand itching to reach for his wand. There were so many hexes he'd like to send Albus' way, hexes that would show him the pain Harry was currently suffering as perhaps a result of the Ministry incident." Oh that is low, even for Dumby, how dare he, like Severus said, without his intervention, the kids would have surely died. Then what would Dumby do? Severus connected with the Headmaster and pushed images of the paternity potion and Lily's letter towards him, letting him know in no uncertain terms that he knew Harry was his child. Dumbledore gasped as he broke eye contact with Severus. "We will speak of this new development in my office tomorrow." "With Minerva present," the Potions Master demanded. He didn't doubt for one minute that if he were to meet with Albus alone, the meddling fool might try to obliviate him to maintain a modicum of control over his son. "If you insist," Albus sighed. " Good, Severus, I trust Dumby the distance I could throw him (without magic), which is none. I hope Harry will react well, I mean I know he'll be shocked and probably angry, but I hope that he'll forgive Severus soon too (it's always been said that he has a forgiving/loving nature). I don't think Severus could bare it if Harry rejected him. Not only that, but as Severus said, he should attend the memorial for his godfather, to aid in the mental healing process. I wonder what type of precautions Severus was refering to, I can think of some but I'm looking foward to seeing what you think. The memorial will be hard on Harry, besides the sadness of it, he has to face his friends for the first time since his treatments began. The next week will be one of his "off chemo" weeks, but still...I wonder when Harry will start showing obvious signs of chemo, such as hair loss. I know from medical articles and seeing my own friends have chemo, that it typically takes about two weeks for the hair to fall out, but Harry never does anything as expected. I do wonder as I've stated before, how it's going to affect Harry, or Snape for that matter. In several chapters, it's mentioned that Snape is carding his hands through Harry's hair. I look foward to reading about that hair loss, as I personally think that it be a strong sentiment. I also look foward to seeing Harry interact with his friends for the first real time since his diagonisis. I know that will be awkward. When Courtney (my middle/high school friend with cancer) was diagnosed with it at the end of eighth grade, the health teacher tried to prepare us with books/ pamplets and such (I already was into fiction books about a girl with cancer, so I knew a bit more than most). Harry needs his friends, even though it will definately not be comfortable at first. Which brings me to another question, has Severus read the letters that Hermoine and Ron sent yet in a much earlier chapter. I know that they were for Harry, but Snape decided that he'd "screen" them first. I know he hasn't much time, but he probably should read them at some point or risk some rather concerned friends of Harry's. That's a moot point though. A question: How much time has passed since the story began, I can't remember. I'm asking because in the previous chapter, Snape knew that Molly would be shocked at Harry's appearance, but as Severus had seen Harry transform bit by bit, he wasn't. I'm glad to see you've updated, it really made my day. I will send you the second chapter of my story soon, I'm almost done with it (with dukie's stroke, having to put her in a "rehab" center and my father visiting from FL, I haven't a lot of time). Sorry to hear about your computer, that stinks. Thanks for the lolly. :-D Author's Response: I figured Lupin would be rather depressed and while I don't think he's an alcoholic, I'm sure alcohol is one of the readily available things at Grimmauld Place. Plus, in some ways it's better that he's at least staying there instead of going out and running into trouble. It'll definitely take some time for Severus to adjust to Harry's friends. He's not used to being nice to his students, especially Gryffindors and now he'll have to be. When Dumbledore accused Snape of letting himself be discovered that was the last straw for Sev. The Order meeting let Sev vent his pent up frustrations and the other members' rose covered glasses were removed at the same time. It'll be interesting to see if a split happens in the Order or if communication will break down. It could cause unpleasant consequences... The memorial is going to be really hard for Harry and not only because his friends will be there. It'll be one of his "off chemo" weeks, but that doesn't mean he won't be feeling some of the side effects still. You're right that it's going to be terribly awkward. As for the letters, I think Sev has forgotten. *gasps, yes, I know* He's had a ton of other things on his mind and as his sleep deprivation is accumulating he's forgetting some of the little stuff. This chapter took place on either Monday or Tuesday June 24/25. I'd have to go back and check for the exact date. According to my little time line that I've got noted down that needs a bit of updating, Sev signed the medical proxy forms on Tuesday, June 18 which would mean the story started the previous week. So we're about at the 2 week mark in the timeline. I know it seems like a lot more time has passed, but I've been putting a lot of details into each day. More time than that has passed since Molly had last seen Harry. He last saw her right after the Ministry incident which was a week or two before that. I really need to update the timeline because I really did have it all worked out. lol. Thanks!
I'm anxious for Harry to find out the news, but I'm wondering how he'll react. I think that on one hand, he'll be pleased that he now has a living father, but also, he'll feel betrayed by Dumbledore, angry, and not wanting to let go of his beliefs that James is his father. Author's Response: Yes, Dumbledore was definitely outwitted by the ultimate Slytherin. ;) He should've thought of that before messing with Severus.
Author's Response: Thanks! It was a lot of fun to write Severus knocking Dumbledore down a peg or two. |
