Hmm... Wondering where Hedwig is...and if Snape will allow her to stay with Harry. It's a weird parallel between Vernon and Snape: each is out for himself instead of genuinely wanting to help Harry. Poor Harry is caught in the middle of -- well, not TUG-of-war -- a pushing contest, where each man is trying to push Harry AWAY!!! At least Petunia and Dudley can understand the reality of the situation, so I'm also wondering if that will change their attitude/relationship to Harry.
And the shoe dropped! Wow! I'm still not certain that Vernon comprehends that he lost that round! He certainly doesn't give up, especially when he's got the bit between his teeth...
Awesome opening chapter! I was literally holding my breath during parts, wondering what Vernon was up to, and waiting for the other shoe to drop concerning what would happen to Harry with his relatives acting so abnormal! Little Arla's family seems so normal in comparison! On to Ch. 2, where the shoe may finally hit the floor... 😊

I find the community and the information fascinating, thank you for the thought and research you have put into it
Harry’s pain and desolation at the end of the chapter was palpable. I hope that he continues to be himself with Snape, and that Snape comes to appreciate who he truly is. It was fun seeing all the extra supplies Harry now needs, and his reaction to them. It will be especially fun to see him become more knowledgeable with the extra studying ahead. I bet Hermione will be jealous, indeed. Thanks for the great update!

Oh this is too good. Haha Snape actually changed his mind and decided himself to take on Harry. I was expecting Dumbledore to force him to do it. But I rather like Snape doing it of his own accord.
It's cool that Dudley gets to see Harry as sort of cool. He actually seems decent in this story.
What a wonderful portrayal of the Dursleys. Fabuous story so far. Thank you so much for writing and sharing it!

Haha! I absolutely love how this all came out! Vernon butting in, asking Snape of all people to apprentice Harry. Oh, that was priceless. This is quickly becoming my favorite story. I am really enjoying Vernon's character, quite an accomplishment!

Poor Harry. The Dursleys would be soul crushing in real life. An excellent chapter. I would be completely bummed with all that extra work, especially for a field I didn’t plan to work in.
