Summary: My challenge is simple, or maybe not considering the lack of stories with these characteristics. My challenge is to write a Severitus, Sevitus or Snape mentor/guardian story WITHOUT disparaging James and Sirius to do so and without Draco being a poor misunderstood abused child who needs adoption too. (Sorry, I want Harry to be the center of the story). Where Harry isn’t turned against James, who died trying to save him. Where James is a good father and husband. Where Severus’ actions towards Harry and society (he becoming a Death Eater) are not excused by James and Sirius being horrible bullies (from canon we hear that Severus gave as good as he got and on DH we see that Severus was the first to insult not James and Sirius). Where Sirius isn’t portrayed as a reckless idiot who doesn’t give a damn for Harry (the man lived on rats for Harry!!! He told Harry to be careful on GoF. He obviously cares for him and can be responsible.) Harry isn’t the one who has to apologize to Snape. Snape is the adult who bullied a child for being a Potter not the other way around. I want to see a story where Severus becomes a better man through his relationship with Harry by admitting his faults and responsibility for his actions and atoning for them and where after some growth (not right at the beginning because then he’s be OOC), he can admit that James and Sirius actually grew up and were good people. I also don’t want to see Draco having a worse life than Harry. There is nothing in canon to support that. Quite the opposite, Draco seemed to be a pampered little boy with very loving parents. If you want to have Draco becoming better and befriending Harry that is fine by me. But Harry is the one with a crappy life who gets a parent, not Draco. I’ve always wanted to read a story like that. There are so many Severitus, Sevitus and Snape mentor/guardian with good proposals, with the promise to be so interesting but 99.9 percent of them fall on the same cliché: making Severus look good by making James and Sirius look bad and making Harry look like a whiner for complaining about his life at the Dursleys and saying he is the one at fault with Snape not the other way around. I’ve braved through some of them, but I mostly lose interest because of this. I want a Severitus, Sevitus or Snape mentor/guardian that won’t make me want to skim over most of the story. The main plot, how they become a family, how Severus might have been Harry’s biological father without them knowing. That is up to you, as long as you don’t make it sound as if James forced Lily into marriage and is abusive. They may even not be really married, the marriage may be a cover up. But bottom line is James and Sirius have to be GOOD people. If you have Sirius alive and them having to work together for their relationship for Harry, that’s extra points. That gives so much room for the imagination. Sirius has to be good but he doesn’t have to be perfect. He can be jealous. Imagine how much conflict and angst you can get out of the insecurities of both Severus and Sirius until they can finally work together for Harry (if you choose this that has to happen). Just remember not to make Sirius look childish. It’s easy to fall into that, from what I’ve seen. I hope someone can come up with a great story with those characteristics. I’m sure they can, Severus Snape is such a rich character and there are so many possibilities. Have fun playing with them people! PadyandMoony

Summary: When the Weasleys letters to Harry continued unreplied Dumbledore sends Snape and two others to check on Harry. What they find shocks and revolts them. Harry hasn't had a proper meal in weeks and is literally skin and bones.

Must Haves:
  • Snape must be one of the group sent to check up on Potter though reluctant, the group must also include either Tonks, Kingsley, or Moody in case the Dursleys being a problem, and a third person whom the writer can pick, if the writer wants to expand the group it is up to him or her but Snape must have at least two other people with him
  • Must Take place prior to the chamber of secrets. The challenge was originally written for the summer before second year but can be modified to where Dumbledore is sending the group to find out why Harry hasn't replied to his Hogwarts letter yet
  • For second year the rescue must take place after the Masons' visit, whether or not Dobby still came or had any influence outside of the Masons' visit is up to the writer. First year the boa constrictor incident must have had some factor in his condition
  • Harry must be taken to St. Mungos this kind of condition should be over Pomfrey's level of healing
  • A period of time where he is put into a healing sleep for the first part of his stay there, this can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks
  • Dream encounter with his parents during the time he is in the sleep
  • Custody given to either Snape or the non-Auror extra member or dual custody of Harry to both of them
  • Dursleys arrested and put on a public trial much to Harry and Snape's chagrin are charged with child abuse, child endangerment, neglect, and attempted murder
  • Harry seeing Ron and Hermione at least once after he is rescued. If this is prior to first year think of something there are more than one reason for Ron and Hermione to be at St. Mungos ex: physical, shots, volunteer work (more Hermione on this one) etc.
  • Scabbers is discovered as Pettigrew thanks to a fore mentioned dream leading to the realization of Siruis's innocence and freedom. How this affects Harry's relationship with Snape and the guardianship status is up to the writer
  • Harry must start the year late on Healer's instructions.
  • Harry being able to fly. How does the fact he's now nothing but skin and bones affect the Quidditch season? Is he banned from flying and games until he's up to a certain weight? Or in the case of first year does he ever truly discover his natural born talent for flying?
  • An effect of some sort on Harry's DADA treatment. Whether be it Lockhart idiotically trying to relate to Harry or the scar pain being more prominent in Quirrel's lessons, etc. There must be some sort of change even if somewhat minor to Harry and his DADA lessons.
Optional:
  • Snape having to take Draco to one of his visits with Harry. If this takes place prior to second year it is up to the author whether or not this starts changing their views of each other. For first year stories this might be a way of having Harry get his first wizarding friend. The later could affect things down the road dramatically including what house he ends up in and who his friends are.
  • The group encountering either Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, or Dudley when retrieving Harry or all three of them
  • A belated birthday party for Harry, who is invited depends on the timeline and whether or not Draco is brought along by Snape to visit Harry
  • Dobby having an unintentional hand in Harry's condition, due to his whole 'Have to protect Harry Potter' thing
  • Draco befriending Harry. If this happens how does this affect the Malfoy family particularly Lucius? Even better how does this affect their relationships with their current friends and housemates? How does this affect house unity?
  • Luna or Neville or both meeting Harry while he's at St. Mungos. In second year Luna could always come along with Ginny. Neville could be visiting his parents but decided he needed some time away and finds Harry.
Do Not Want:
  • Ron bashing. Please refrain from making him to a git or jerk. The boy maybe stupid and jealous at times but he really does care for Harry so please refrain from making him seem uncaring.
  • Overplay of romance. Really do not want to see copious amounts of romance in the story. First of all Harry's a kid shouldn't be looking for something like that for another year or so. With the older characters it's fine to have some romance but try not to overdo it please. What type of pairings they are is up to the author.
  • Auto recovery. Harry cannot go from a scared and abused to a normal kid in matter of a couple of days. This is not how the real world works. Abuse on this level takes a while to repair both physically and mentally and I do not want Harry to be reacting like a normal kid would for at least a few months after the rescue. They don't have to be huge signs. But just make sure that he has reactions you would actually expect of an abused child (examples: unworthiness feelings, protectiveness of possessions, more sensitive to comments (a big one when the COS is opened), etc.
How the rest plays out is completely up to the writer.

Summary: It is the beginning of a new school year and unknown to the Professors, one of their students has been badly beaten at home before making it to Hogwarts. This student dies overnight, sending all of the Professors in an uproar at missing the signs of such a terrible incident. As a result, each and every Hogwarts student is to undergo an exam as soon as possible, no exceptions.

Harry has been a student at Hogwarts for at least one year. Extra points if he tries to get out of his exam somehow.

Summary: Harry feels like no one understands the real him, so he runs away after meeting Ron Weaseley's claims of him being "spoiled with a mansion and loads of house-elves" after an argument they had in the Compartment. Discovering him missing and the abuse he suffered from the Dursleys, Albus sends Severus to find him and show him that someone can relate to him and understand what he's been through. When Harry returns to Hogwarts, he surprises everyone by being in Slytherin, and even moreso, having Severus for a father

Summary: Harry has a nervous tic and Snape has not failed to notice it. What is it, and what are Snape's thoughts on the matter? Is it merely a mild irritation, or does it evoke more consideration from the man? Why?

Summary: Make up a new room at Hogwarts. What is it? Somehow both Harry and Snape need to experience it, and interact.

Summary: Harry's mother is not Lily. Harry is raised with relatives similar to the Dursleys (but they are not the Dursleys). When Harry starts school his past catches up to him. Lily is married to Severus and she thinks they should adopt him. Severus doesn't like the idea and neither does Sirius.

Summary: Dumbledore put a spell on Harry to hide the Dursleys' abuse. The spell was like a modified version of "Notice-Me-Not," so everyone just... didn't notice. When the spell fails with Dumbledore's death (or something else), everyone suddenly discovers the abuse. Harry, of course, is distrustful. He can't comprehend why everyone ignored his pain before, and now suddenly cares.

Summary:

When Harry meets with Dumbledore at King's Cross in Deathly Hallows, Dumbledore tells Harry when he goes back, it will be to the moment he first came into existence. Dumbledore tells him it is because too many good people have died and would like to prevent those deaths while allowing Harry some time with people who love him and will let him be a kid. When Harry is reborn in the new time line, much to his surprise/horror/whatever, Severus Snape is his father. Turns out Severus had also been given a "second chance" and ended up marrying Harry's mother Lily and is not a death eater. Can Severus and Harry work together to make a better time line?

Bonus points if you do one or more of the following:

In this new time line, Severus, not wanting to be associated with Death Eaters, told the sorting hat when he was "resorted" anywhere but Slytherin, ended in Gryffindor and at least on good terms with the four Marauders.

Before Harry is re-born, a healer says something is odd to Severus and Lily when Lily goes in for a routine checkup. Something along the lines that their unborn child has three biological parents (Severus, Lily, and James).

The prophecy is different in the new time line.

Summary: It's been years since I've read the Chronicles of Narnia. But I had this weird image. Pre-Hogwarts Harry is dragged along to an estate sale by Petunia. (She needs him to carry stuff. Dudley can't carry stuff of course.) Harry wanders around and sees an old wardrobe. He opens it and looks at the items inside. Harry feels a second row of coats behind the first, and gets in, curious as to how deep the wardrobe is.

Of course, Harry ends up in Narnia for several years. How long is your choice. But Harry comes out of the wardrobe before his letter from Hogwarts arrives. And however long he was in Narnia, once he steps out of the wardrobe, is back at his "earthly" age again, much to his disappointment. Harry wanders back to his aunt's house.

I'm looking for a Harry who is a bit more assertive than canon!Harry. And maybe just a bit more studious.

How would Harry's time in Narnia affect canon? Would he ever go back to Narnia?
