Site Downtime

Hello everyone,

Sorry about the downtime for the site this past days.

We are experiencing some problems with the webhost, and I'm looking into it. It appears we are somehow overloading the server, and the account was suspended. I'm working on it, although I have yet to find what is causing this, as traffic to the site has been lower than it was last year.

Please be patient, and do not upload any new chapters until further notice as I'm going to do a full backup and run a few tests. I will turn off submissions.

Also, if any of you use a downloader like the Calibre Fanfictiondownloader plugin, the web version of it, or any other, I'll like to know, as this might also be the reason why we are overloading the server. I use the Calibre plugin on occasion, although not recently. There'll be a poll open, please participate as it's really important to check all possible problems.

Browsing will be available for those wanting to catch up on their reading, but this might change if I upgrade eFiction to the latest version. The site will be down for a couple of hours if that is the case.

Once again I apologize for the downtime, hopefully it will be resolved in a couple of days.

thanks for the hard work in making this site up for surfing once more!! so glad that i decided to try my luck in accessing the site today :D

i do hope this site will be around for as long as there are fanfics being written for the HP universe!

I'm so happy that the site is back. I was a bit worried. I'd suggest putting up a Facebook fanpage. From my experience it seems that when a site is down, its users most often check the Facebook site for the information about the reason of it being down. The fanpage could be also useful for info about new chapters, stories, etc. Since a lot of people use Facebook nowadays... you could consider this idea ;) I can help with it if you want.

The idea of a FB page does sound good, but there are people who are not comfortable revealing more than their user names.

As a FB user you have to reveal your real name. This was why I suggested twitter as people don't necessarily need to reveal personal info. Jan AQ reminded me there are a LiveJournal account and a Yahoo groups one which could be used instead.

They probably were, we also had a lot of bots from google and a few others, so I limited their access to the site, hopefully this will do.

I'm also looking into updating eFiction to the last version (released in 2010) while we wait for a new one. There are new developers taking over eFiction and reviving the project, looks very promising but no release time yet. Hop over to the forum when you have time.

There is a version 3.5.3, I found about it last night when I was checking on eFiction to see if it was the problem.

I'm not sure there are many improvements over this version, but I'll check it out in my local server first to see if it's worth uploading it, or we should wait if/until the new version is out.

I'm also on the lookout for other fanfiction programs in case eFiction gets abandoned again, sooner or later won't be compatible with the new php and mysql and I rather not loose the site due to incompatibility.

A Tumblr page would be awesome since everything's under a user name there anyway. For example, my user name is the same on Tumblr as it is on here, and it would be a nice way to check up on those type of things.

Glad the site is back for surfing! I'm holding my updates until there's another notice that new chapters are compatable with the site! :)
