the first quote you used, do you know who he is? Monson?

anywas, I like the story, the sentence structure isn't british but then again, it doesn't really matter that much, does it.

    good job, update often!

Author's Response: Yes, I do.  :)  And no, it wouldn't be so much.  I've tried, but well, I hail from the deep south, USA.  My beta readers are Brits, but I'm sure not.

Please continue.  For once it's a story where on character is OOC really.  Update again soon.  WONDERFUL start

Author's Response: Hrm?  Thank you.  And will do.

I sense a hint of foreboding about the minister and trying to get Harry committed. Poor Harry, if that's in his future then he'll have a rougher path for sure on his already rocky one. Nice chaper. :) I liked how Snape decided and agreed that Harry should know what's going on. I wonder if that's what would have happened if he had been told in canon.

    Author's Response:

*plays spooky music* There are several not-nice options awaiting Harry.  Dumbledore ruled out a wizarding orphanage, then there's the committed by Fudge route.  There's also going into care, and technically, the Malfoys could probably petition for custody.  Sirius's claim was never revoked because he was never actually convicted, and aside from the Lestranges, who are currently fugitives, Narcissa is Sirius's closest blood realitive.

Also, in my version of reality, the Dursleys don't actually have guardianship of Harry.  They have physical custody, but they never bothered to file the paperwork. It was never contested because of a derth of blood relations on both sides of his family.

Snape told Harry about the prophecy in an effort to protect him yet again.  If Harry dies and he could have done something, then he dies as well.  Completely Slytherin motivations here...

Wonderful as always!  I liked how Severus is shifting slowly but surely towards thinking of Harry as more than just James' son, and remembering that he's Lily's as well.  And it looks like you're not going to kill Sirius off--please?  I look forward to seeing what happens with Umbridge, and the Ministry.

Author's Response: It will take a while longer but the goal is to have him willing to take Harry in by the end of the year.  And as for killing Sirius, well, you'll have to wait and see.

Great job on capturing Harry's emotions without being too sentimental! I like your story a lot so far and hope you update again soon.

    Author's Response:

That was one of the things I was aiming for--many fics with a more severely abused Harry than we see in canon tend to lean towards melodrama.  I've been attempting to give an accurate portrayal of Harry and how he thinks and what he's feeling without going there.

I did get a suggestion that I should have Harry start cutting, but frankly I don't see it happening without swaying into OOC territory.  Like a lot of kids with his family problems, he doesn't feel sorry for himself, because that's just the way things are.  To him, it's normal for his family to treat him that way, and until he was eleven, he probably never knew that it could be any different.

Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying this, and I should be updating soon.

This is a *very* well-written story. You write Harry perfectly, his thoughts and reactions were marvellous. Snape was done well too. Really, it is a remarkable story; your characterisations are wonderful, your style is fantastic. I like having it a legal requirement to report abuse; I didn't know that, but it makes a wonderful new angle for fanfiction.

Thank you. I look forward to further chapters.

    Author's Response:

*blush* Thank you.  Frankly, I'm surprised that nobody considered this angle before, because it has the added advantage of being accurate to our world.  JKR would know about it because of her status as a teacher, but it just doesn't fit into the classic boy hero mythos.  I, however, can ignore that simply because it makes a good plot for an AU! ;)

I'm not sure how long this story will run.  It's going to go through the summer at least, and perhaps through my version of sixth year.  I'm glad you like my portrayal of Harry; I rarely write teenagers, so this is a bit of a challenge for me.  Chapter three will be up later this week, so stay tuned!
