Reviews For the Secret of Slytherin
Zipper is my favorite bit though - that and losing his custom robes! Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed it; people had surprisingly violent reactions to this chapter. "How could you make Draco get rid of his original clothing? That's abuse!" It is harsh, but certainly far less harsh than some of the other things that happen to the characters in this story, and I've often wondered why many people have had such a strong opinion on it.
It may be from my teen readers, who consider clothing more closely associated with identity than most adults do. In that light, the others are saying that who Draco was ought to be destroyed: they are remaking him. It's not just a makeover chapter, but an utter rejection of Draco's old identity.
Come to think, that's exactly what I DID mean it to symbolize. Ginny wants Draco to reject his old, pureblooded way of looking at the world, and she's going from the outside, in.

I'd love to know what kind of haircut Draco got. This was very fun to read. Author's Response: I was surprised how many people had negative reactions to that bit. It is very forceful: a kind of "I am throwing away your identity" moment, and that's tough. -K
I really enjoyed reading Hermoine's initial responses to the wizarding world. You described her feelings quite well. Thank you. |
