Title: THIRTY-TWO: In the Headmaster's Office 30 Jul 2011 12:25 am

Well, that explains some things but not what Sev and Harry wanted to know. I also liked the way that Harry made use of the lines to do his meditation exercise. There's a lot to think about in this chapter and I think I'll let the back of my mind mull it over while I read the next one.

Well, even if Dumbledore was not Sorted into Slytherin, his mind opertes a lot like you'd expect a classic Slytherin to act (if you buy into the prejudicial description of them, any way).

    Bravo again!

    Author's Response:

I love that you added, "if you buy into that nonsense".  It makes you sound like you're really in the world of the story.  :)

Title: THIRTY-ONE: Building a Mystery 30 Jul 2011 12:12 am

I think I am approaching an "A-ha!" moment. I wonder if Dumbledore had an expectation as to how long it would take Severus and Harry to figure this out or if he is going along his merry way thinking everything is set up just the way he wants. I'm not one of those reader's who thinks that Dumbledore is entirely and only manipulating bastard but I do know that he is a manipulator. I'll have to go back and check the books again, but at the moment I can't remember if JKR specifically said what his House was. Honestly, I figured Dumbledore for a Slytherin by the end of PoA. I suppose it doesn't really matter any way. I look forward to seeing how this all plays out.

    Author's Response:

I think it's safe to say that Dumbledore believed they'd figure it out eventually.  I'm one of those people who don't believe he's evil as well.  Just very skilled and much smarter than most people, coupled with the unfortunate tendency to think that means he knows best.

I mean, he probably DOES most of the time, but I do think he goes too far occasionally.

Title: THIRTY: Surprise 30 Jul 2011 12:02 am

Surprise was the perfect title for this chapter. Harry's (And everyone else's) reaction to seeing Draco, Ginny and Hermione coming back into Diagon Alley was priceless. The banter was fabulous in this chapter as was the culminating scene between Harry and Draco. And then you dropped that 1,000 pound anvil of Draco's mother being there on us! No wonder I'm sitting here with my jaw on the floor going "uh-oh!".

I am now very worried about Draco (though I admit I still don't trust him). You are a very talented writer, you know. There's not many authors who can take an essentially unlikeable character and write them in such a way that the reader grows to care about what happens to them even when they are still a person that you wouldn't want to socialize with. But you can do it, and you do it incredibly well.

If you want to know why I've been able to red all these chapters today, its because I'm reading on my laptop while IT works on my desktop computer. Once they get that working again my reading and reviewing will probably slow down a bit. And thanks for letting me know that you have the sequel on ff.net. I'll check that out as soon as I finish this story. Ta!

    Author's Response:

I love that you worry about Draco without trusting him.  That is how I always felt about him in canon, too.  Sort of: oh, no, what is going to HAPPEN to this kid when he realizes what crappy choices he's made?  And I really wanted to convey that to the readers here.

I hope your computer gets better soon!

Title: TWENTY-NINE: Juxtaposition 29 Jul 2011 10:57 pm

I always thought that Hermione would look so much better if her hair was properly trimmed up. I did like seeing Draco dealing with being in the Muggle world. I admit though that I didn't like it that Ginny threw away his robes. It would hae been much kinder to have had the salesclerk put them in the bags with the other clothes.

I'd love to know what kind of haircut Draco got.

This was very fun to read.

    Author's Response:

I was surprised how many people had negative reactions to that bit.  It is very forceful: a kind of  "I am throwing away your identity" moment, and that's tough.

Well, I think that on occasion Dumbledore would provide an extended field trip to the older students, and with Portkeys you don't really have a time problem with the distance between locations. Of course, I'm sure that some of the Professor would have to go along as chaperones.

    Very fun to read! Bravo!

    Author's Response:

    Thank you!

I LOVE how Severus played Umbridge. It was the epitome of Slytherin. I'm not sure of what has been happening in regards to Harry's Potions OWL. Did someone Imperius Harry and Severus and then Obliviate them? The plot has definitely thickened and I'm utterly intrigued.

    Bravo!

    Author's Response:

One of my favorite bits.  :)

Title: TWENTY-SIX: Ravenclaw Versus Slytherin 29 Jul 2011 10:03 pm

You are great at writing Quidditch games! And Harry's analysis of Hermione was spot on. I really liked seeing Draco just being a normal happy young man for once. No guile, no planning, no sneakiness, just plain joy!

    Bravissimi!

    Author's Response:

Draco in the throes of sheer happiness is very charming.  :)  Too bad he can't find that uncomplicated joy so often.

Title: TWENTY-FIVE: Remus Lupin Versus the Establishment 29 Jul 2011 9:53 pm

Oh Severus/Remus interction! I'm SO happy with this chapter. I think my favoutirte part is where Severus says "We ARE the only ones left." I can just hear Alan Rickman's wonderful voice saying that line.

I knew the Ministry would rear its ugly head (very ugly head in the person of Umbridge in my opinion) sooner or later. Poor Remus. He has had a hell of a life, hasn't he? Hmmm. I think you've given me an idea for an AU one-shot with his thought that it might have been better to have slugged Severus back when they were in school. It's weird but sometimes you make your best friends that way as my sister and another girl in our 8th grade gym class discovered.

You once again have done a beautiful job. Bravo!

    Author's Response:

Yes, isn't that strange?  It's like, now you know who's in charge, all the tension's dissolved.

Although I think in Severus's case, it was more like proof that Remus is a human being and not some sort of exhalted creature who exists beyond a fit of temper.

Title: TWENTY-FOUR: a Strange Lot 29 Jul 2011 9:43 pm

I really enjoyed the dinner table conversation. I think that it would be good if Harry shared the factthat he was originally Sorted Slytherin to Hermione and Ron. It might help them understand the way he reacts sometimes. Hermione was priceless in this chapter and Ron just plain surprised me. I would love to watch a chess game between him and Draco. It would probably either finish in 5 minutes or go on for days and I think its a toss-up as to which of them would win. Bravo!

    Author's Response:

Minutes because Draco would underestimate Ron.  Then hours, but Ron would still win.  ;)

Title: TWENTY-THREE: to Waste Your Hatred 29 Jul 2011 9:33 pm
Reviewer: dancingkatz (Signed) [Report This]
Oh, dear. Harry just Obscured again, didn't he? I know that this wouldn't be even half as interesting if he and Draco had befriended each other in First Year or if Harry had been Sorted into Slytherin (though I suspect that Dumbledore would have ordered him to be Re-Sorted rather than allow him to remain there.) Intense is the perfect word to describe thier friendship. However, I have a feeling that Harry is goingot end up hurt by Draco one way or another in the end. Hopefully, he won't end up beyond repair, hatever happens.

Though what Draco told him about burning the cloak was flat out horrible. I can't believe that he was saying it only to yank Harry's chain. I think, that like his words and actions in the Great Hall and in Potions Class that it wa an attempt to take control over the situation and become the powerful individual in the situation. I can't imagine that Draco can tolerate being without power (which will certainly cause him trouble in the Death Eaters' ranks assuming that he doesn't change his allegiance).

    Brilliantly written! Bravo!

    Author's Response:

Probably such a story would be very mellow and laid-back but, I imagine, still potentially interesting.  Imagine Harry's usual adventures, but with Malfoy thrown into the mix!

Draco is a strange creature.  I think that he is operating from surprisingly pure motivations for more of the story than people think he is.  And I don't think the thing with the Cloak was really just to see how Harry would react, or not entirely.  He's probably selfish enough to find that an exciting bonus, however.
