well at this point in the story i am guessing Harry is somehow reading Snape's mind subconsiously... he seems to keep having potions knowledge from no where

I've really adored this fic, and am so very glas to have found it again, and complete, no longer a WIP!! (That tells you how long ago I was reading it, and lost it...)
Two tiny things - at the end, Harry and the others were referring to himself/Harry as a Gryffindor again; when did he change from Slytherin/'Unsorted' back to full Gryffie? And there were a few places where Harry was in a bunk bed, with another bunk above him, as early as the second? chapter, and again towards the end... yet, at Hogwarts, we never see them having bunk beds, only 4 posters. The story is brilliant, and those are only tiny things, at least the last is very picky, but it is something from both the canon and the movies, and could easily be changed. or at least done differently / addressed in any sequel, just for the sake of plot carryover between the series and this fanfic storyline.
I really am so very appreciative that you did redeem Draco, and did not kill off Severus!! I think it is great fun that you also had Draco be the one to take out Voldie. You kept the folks very nicely in-character, as you developed them within the storyline you created, which kept me involved throughout. I think you had a good balance of angst and humor, friendship and mystery, and you managed to weave together many things at once in a way that nicely flowed together, it was a great read that kept me up all day and night! I truly could not put it down until all was read. Simply an excellent read!

    Author's Response:

I remember you!  You always wrote good reviews.  :)

I'm really glad you enjoyed the story.  As far as the bunk-beds went, it always made more sense to me to have them in bunk beds because of the space limitations inherent in a school... you'd think they'd have to.  Because of my logical brain, I always pictured it this way.  Even when I was shown the movies, I'm stubborn enough that my initial conception of the layout of the Gryffindor dorms did not change.  ;)

When Harry refers to himself as a Gryffindor towards the end, he is referring to his background/training/upbringing.

Hope to see you around as I post future fics!  I've got one right now at the H/D World Cup, if one slashy kiss doesn't bug you.  :)  See you around!

Title: CHAPTER FORTY-ONE: the Principle of the Thing 02 Jan 2009 11:08 am

I love your Ron. I think I even like him better than the canon one - he is true to canon, 'after 2nd half of GOF', but retaining more consistent loyalty, so a bit more mature. I think he's actually depicted more realistically as a good friend, for his age, than JKR does. Which is a very good thing, as sometimes I think her depiction of teens is a bit too simplistic - though I think she had to do that to get the books allowed by the parents, givrn the complexity of the rest of her characters / plots.

Your Invisibility CLoak!! Harry!! 1) Your's only thing from your father 2) Its usefulness 3) and maybe even most important!! Keep it out of the hands of the Death Eaters, or Malfoy Senior, or from Draco's use in a way that maybe he really would't want to, but could be forced to use it!! It also does not seem realistic that Harry would forget such a thing! Amazing story, though, and thank you for putting a note on your author profile at FFN - I don't trust that site.

    Author's Response:

I think that, when people took issue with SoS, the Cloak exchange was the top point of disagreement.  On a deeper level, I think Harry is punishing himself for what he sees as an inexcusable action, vis a vis the Unforgivable - this is what really rests at the heart of his decision, a self-flagellation by giving up the thing that matters most to him.

As for Death Eaters getting their hands on it?  I can say with authority that 'my' version Harry just doesn't have that foresight.  He's too entrenched in his own guilty feelings to think so logically.  He is imagining Malfoy will use it for some 'mischief', rather than hand it over to his father.

...and of course, any plot twist that requires this much explanation probably needed that explanation within the story itself!  All I can say is, next time I'll lay that foundation better.  :)

    Thanks for reading!

I have loved you're story! I stumbled across it and it took me two days to finish- I couldn't stay away! I was up until 3a this morning! Incredible work! One of my favorite parts was the lovely little thread of picnics. I thought it was adorable and such a great contrast for them to be having these deep dark discussions while doing such a classically childish thing. I also lovedd Snape's observation that they reminded him of the Marauders when he is leaving their last picnic. Another great part was the way you have Harry transfiguring up the white ribbons randomly sometimes, and then that factors into Snape finding them in his books which of course figures into the great mystery! Honestly if you haven't published a real novel yet pleaseeee do so! I also loved when Ginny and Harry took Draco out into muggle London to shop. The story has been a joy! And I think the reccommendations are a reallyy great idea, it is so hard to find quality work! I haven't looked through them yet because I was so focused on reading, but I'll go back and look now! Thank you! Excellent work I'm ecstatic that I got a chance to read and enjoy it!

Really lovely chapter, this. While I've never been one to need Harry and Draco be closer, I have to appreciate the way you wove them together here. And I very much liked Ron and Severus being the combined force that led to Harry visiting Draco. Nicely done.

    Author's Response:

Thanks!  As for H + D getting closer, I *so* much felt this was where JKR was headed during the fifth book that I started to think, *hmm... how interesting!*  And then it didn't happen.

So I wrote it instead.  ;)
