I love the idea that Harry can learn to occlude through knitting. Brilliant.

Wow! What a concept-- knitting as a means to occlumency! I don't knit (kept ruining things by dropping a stitch that I couldn't pick up...), but I do crochet, and I fully understand the all-absorbing, hypnotic nature of totally focusing on repetitive action! Crochet comes without the added benefit of sound effects, however! Great use of imagination, sensory imagery, and Snape's endless array of unimagined talents!

One of the few fics that I have ever read that includes knitting. I never thought of knitting as a way to occlude before though.

That was very, very good. I love your descriptions and how eerily the light is glinting off the knitting needles. The black yarn suited Snape. I really enjoyed this piece; it's very unique and thought provoking.

This is such a lovely piece of writing. Definitely AU but somehow, I'm not surprised that Severus would know how to knit. It's a practical skill, like sewing and anyone who may have come from an economically straitened household would learn sich things in order to keep clothes and such in repair. Then later on I can see Severus using it as he does here as a focus for occulmency. I think the biggest error canon Snape made in regards to teaching Harry is to forget that it is much easier to focus on a specific thing rather than think of nothing. The wool yarn and the action of knitting is perfect for this as it involves almost all the senses; the feel, look, and even smell of the yarn, the sound of hte knitting needles, the pattern of stitches... simple and complex at the same time. Actually, that is a good desription of Severus, isn't it? Maybe that is why I have no problem with the idea of him sitting there knitting.

Am I correct in my assumption that any use of magic would have brought the Deatheaters down on them?

This is wonderful. Thanks for sharing it.

A very strange little story, but I rather liked it. It did leave an awful lot unexplained, as previous reviewers have mentioned, but somehow, your writing style is quite mesmerizing and it caused me to forget all those niggling questions and just focus on the harmony of that short moment.
    Very good writing!
